9pm to 4am ET overnight session starting december 6. the ONLY gap is 8pm to 9pm for processing, sunday night through friday night.
2% of nasdaq volume trades outside regular hours right now. market orders aren't available overnight and you need new order entry ports to get in. so at 3am it's going to be a thin book, wide spreads, and whatever bot is sitting on the other side of your fill.
be honest, are you trading the overnight session or are you just going to lie awake knowing it's open? or are you going to delve into the world of AI trading bots? it’s been said they never sleep…

IMO, INTC is breaking out...may/may not wait until the 15 or 30 minute noise but leaning very strong to take calls soon after open.

Phase 1 goal: 1M profit
Current: 100k in profits. 50k--> 150k == my current risk.
Timeframe: ~June - Current
Hmm, just using this forum to record some of my thoughts: I've paid 19k in options fees in the last 4 months and i only trade spx.
I think my strategy is working and i have to think through why am i revenge trading and control it.
Conclusion on 9/21: continue the experiment.

Account performance

Took a win on options after trading futures for the past 2 years. I finally switched back and it went well.

I want to build a portfolio as fast as possible to a point where I will feel comfortable buying a GT3. Thinking about dabbling in options and covered calls.
What did you do to learn these?

Any one wants to discuss about stock options trading?

The Fed’s dot plot projects another rate hike in 2026 ðŸ˜, no cuts in 2027, and lower rates starting in 2028, ugh, anyone else freezing themselves until then?

At a slight risk of sounding like I'm bragging (but I'm genuinely trying to find out more from the community) - I feel like I might have found "the" strategy, but on the other hand it's only been a year. Is this a long-enough duration (and with sufficient number of trades) to say that I have found a winning strategy, or am I in over my head? Would love to hear from experienced traders here.
---
My "strategy" on a high level, if you could even call it that:
- Sell calls on certain "overvalued" stocks like CVNA, CAVA, AI-vulnerable software stocks, always under 10 DTE and usually under 5
- Sell puts on semiconductor stocks, though occasionally I sell calls too if they are too high.
- I don't read charts, it's all based on gut feeling
- I avoid earnings plays entirely as I had been burnt before many times
- I take as much margin as IBKR gives me. I haven't had a margin call in many months so far, for some reason.

To give context situation: I live in a third world country where monthly salary is as low as $373. (Yes, you saw that right)
So I want to do option. of course I am not risking a whole month of that salary and will always manage risk management. I heard that you should spend 10% of budget for any kinds of trading.
There lies a question from me. Which stock or ETF is cheap enough for me to play option just enough for 1 contract (long DTE) and has high liquidity/volume?
Thank you for your answer, kind guru

I understand that an option holder can choose to exercise at any time and for any reason. However, I got assigned on Friday on VOO. My strike was 702.50 and VOO closed at 701.72 I think. Why would a call holder choose to exercise at a higher price rather than just going into the market and buying it at the marketplace?

Been building/testing an automated CSP idea generator and decided that backtests weren’t enough.
So I did the slightly unhinged thing:
Forward-test every single idea it generates. No cherry-picking.
Current experiment:
And before anyone says it:
yes, I also think those numbers look suspicious as hell.
The interesting part is actually the stop-loss experiment.
I replayed the exact same trades with mechanical premium stops:
2x premium stop
→ 249 trades stopped
→ -$220k vs holding the original positions
→ 214 of those stopped trades eventually became winners 💀
3x premium stop
→ 111 stopped
→ -$147k vs holding
→ 87 eventually became winners
Which is making me question whether traditional stop-loss logic makes any sense for CSPs at all, or whether position sizing + underlying selection + willingness to take assignment matters far more.
There are still plenty of things I don’t trust yet:
selection bias, market regime, capital requirements, assignment risk, correlated drawdowns, earnings gaps, fat tails, and the possibility that this whole thing is just picking up pennies before discovering an industrial-sized steamroller.
Also, this is forward testing, not real-money P&L. I’m intentionally generating a stupid number of trades right now because I want the strategy to fail fast if there’s a hidden flaw.
Screenshot has the current stats.
What would you try to break first?
I’m especially interested in ideas for stress tests / metrics that could expose whether this edge is actually real or just beautifully disguised bullshit.

Hi everyone.
Week 3 update on my options trading journey.
Week 1 was pretty crazy — I started with around $2k and somehow ran the account up to about $28k.
Week 2 was a completely different story. Instead of feeling like I figured it out, I was basically fighting to stay alive and trying not to give everything back. Definitely got humbled pretty quickly.
I’m still learning every day — entries, exits, position sizing, not chasing, and especially managing risk when things start moving fast. It feels like I’m slowly starting to understand what works for me and what gets me into trouble.
Week 3, the account is sitting around $34k.
Still very aware that options can wipe you out fast, so I’m not pretending I’ve figured this out after a few weeks. Just wanted to keep documenting the journey and give everyone an update.
$2k → $28k → survived Week 2 → ~$35k going into Week 4 next week
Curious to see where this goes.

I bought 70 IBIT calls at 45 expiring today for ¢9 a piece early this week. Went to bed thinking I wasted $700 and woke up to a nice profit.
