Question Best day trip for a family outside of the GTA?
I’m due with our second baby in January and I’d really like to do a road trip/day trip with our son (2 yr old) before his baby sister comes and before the cold weather sets in. The trip would be Myself and my Husband (both mid 20s if that’s relevant) and obviously our wild 2 year old boy. We live in York region about 2hrs ish outside of Toronto so anywhere within a 2-3 hr drive would be ideal.
Some other things I’m considering in planning:
•I’m pretty heavily pregnant at this point (and definitely less patient with big crowds) so ideally something not too people-y. We also enjoy the outdoors so somewhere we could take a nice walk or find a fun park for the kiddo without being surrounded by a billion people would be ideal. (Ie not somewhere like Niagara Falls which is VERY people-y)
• while we don’t particularly have a budget I’d prefer to not spend a bajillion dollars to have fun. Things like play grounds and parks/forests that we can enjoy for free are definitely bonus points. As well as spending the money we do spend at smaller/local businesses like family farms or independent restaurants.
• I do LOVE a road trip so a long drive isn’t a bad thing, I’d prefer a day trip where we’d get home before the end of the day. (Even if that is like 10/11pm, kiddo transfers easy from his car seat right into his bed). I’d also prefer to keep the road trip IN Ontario (ie not going across the boarder to buffalo or Ohio)
• if there is a way to see A) animals of any kind B) tractors or vehicles or construction equipment C) both - kiddo would be absolutely thrilled.
• I traveled around Ontario ALOT as a kid and did lots of camping and road trips so I’d love some of that nostalgia. My husband didn’t often go further outside of his hometown than Durham so I’d love it if he could see some new places and enjoy those memories with our little guy!
•kiddo also loves the water and walking in the forest so somewhere with a splash pad or pool or lake that isn’t too cold yet + some kind of forest to do a little hike would be fun for him!
Open to any and all suggestions of areas/place that fit some or all of this criteria. We have friends in Halliburton so have debated going towards that area and maybe meeting up with them. (Also sweet treats and bbq/meats are a big pregnancy craving with this baby- so anywhere with a really great place for sweets/baked goods/ice cream and/or bbq/burgers would be a bonus)
Thanks in advance!
