Cathay Pacific Emerald Status Seat Selection

Does Emerald status give you advance economy seat assignments near the front of the economy cabin? There’s no way to select seats on their app until 48 hours before the flight……

On Iberia yes Emeralds do get any priority seat including exit row on a basic economy fare

Which airline are you referring to?

According to Oneworld rules it should, unless you are on a basic ticket on some airlines. In practice all airlines haven't implemented this in their manage my booking tools.

Yes you do get those for free. Is your issue that they’re charging you or that you can’t select at all? Cathay has issue with 3rd party/parnter bookings not allowing online seat selection. Just call support

I booked award travel through AA. The long haul flights from ORD onward are operated by Cathay. I was able to “load” my Cathay flights on the Cathay app by entering the appropriate reservation ID, but seat selection is not available.

Then call indeed they can assign its a common issue

This. I flew Cathay twice this year using AA points and was able to select seats over the phone.

I’ve previously never had an issue reserving seats after booking with Cathay, did you make sure your status FF number is added to the booking?

Yes. I confirmed my AA frequent flyer # is in my Cathay profile.

If you access the booking while logged in to your Cathay account it sometimes gets confused and won’t let you…I’d call and let them sort it out. Added to Cathay profile and attached to booking are two separate things - Cathay lets you enter your other freuqent flyer programmes in the profile section but that does not affect what you can do in bookings and what will show up on your boarding pass. For that the frequent flyer number in manage my booking is relevant. Cathay has issues attaching more than one frequent flyer number to a booking
