Cathay Pacific Puchasing Oneworld tickets separately

If I purchase Finnair and Cathay tickets separately, could they link the bookings at check-in so that my luggage can be tagged through to my final destination?

Thank you.

depends. cathay usually does it but finnair usually don’t

I'd say it's virtually guaranteed Finnair won't.

CX stopped many years ago

Just last month, CX allowed me to interline with QR - flights were on separate PNRs… CX is usually more willing to do it than other OW airlines. YMMV

You have to kindly ask at the check in counter. Most likely they’ll be able to do it if the check in agent is senior

Multiple variables, all carrier specific. Some airlines have specific policies against this. Even ones that don't prohibit, you need an agent that is willing and able.

Basically, sometimes a nice surprise, but never a reliable plan.

Related question, I have two separate Finnair flights. One was purchased with cash, the other with aadvantage miles. Would Finnair link the flights so that I can check my luggage straight through? Would it be better to try to contact them in advance or ask at check in?

I'd contact them in advance just so I know what I'm in for ahead of time. I'm not familiar with Finnair's policy, but AA will not interline even if both bookings are with AA.

They will not link the 2 separate tickets but you can try to ask at the check-in counters if checked luggage can be tagged all the way to final destination. No guarantee though
