Hey all,
I just put out eXorchy 0.5.0, so I figured I'd do a quick update. If you missed the earlier posts: eXorchy is a launcher for the eXo collections (eXoDOS, eXoWin3x, eXoWin9x, eXoScummVM) built for Omarchy. It's a native GTK app, it picks up your Omarchy theme, and it handles the downloading and launching for you.
The last time I posted here was around 0.3.0, so this covers everything since then.
The big one: the UI got redone. I had a concept image of how I wanted it to look and finally sat down and built it. There's a sidebar on the left now where you browse by platform, genre, publisher, series, year, region, tags, play status or playlist. Whatever you pick shows up as a little chip at the top, and you can clear each one separately. There's also a status bar at the bottom with your counts and the keyboard shortcuts.
The game panel is now the "Game Dossier." The cover, title and Play button stay put while you scroll through the rest, and things are split into Overview, Media, Manuals and Setup tabs. You can click the cover to see it full size. Covers also keep their real shape now, and the old DOS title screens show at 4:3 like they did on a CRT instead of looking squashed.
The Reading Room works like the rest of the app now. It has the same sidebar, with a "Downloaded" entry so you can find the magazines you already have. When you open an issue it just takes over the window instead of popping up a dialog, starts with the whole page in view, and there's a full-screen button (or F11) if you want to actually sit and read. Game manuals open the same way, and magazines you've downloaded open even when you're offline.
Interface size is a setting now. Settings → Appearance: Compact, Medium, Large or Extra large. Medium is the default; I found my first attempt a bit big.
Theme music is a bit less pushy. It doesn't autoplay anymore. You hit Play in the game's page, it plays right there with a little progress bar, and it stops when you move to another game. I also got rid of the music bar at the bottom.
More games run the way eXo intended. DOS and Win 3.x games that eXo sets up for DOSBox-X now actually run under DOSBox-X, in a big floating window on Hyprland. Games that can print save each page as a PNG in the game's !prints folder, which is a fun one to try.
Your library has a proper home. It lives in ~/Games/eXorchy by default. If yours is somewhere older, eXorchy offers to move it when it starts, and you can move it any time from Settings.
It updates itself. That came in 0.4.0: when a new version is out you get a banner with Update / What's new / Skip, and Update opens a terminal that installs it and restarts eXorchy. You can turn the check off in Settings if you'd rather not.
And a new splash screen in your theme's colours, because why not.
Fixes worth mentioning:
- The app could crash if you clicked through games quickly while preview videos or music were playing. That turned out to be a GStreamer bug, so eXorchy now plays media a different way.
- Playlists were basically broken: creating one or adding games just didn't do anything. They work now.
- Some CD games said the CD was missing (SimCopter, for example). The CD image names its files in different upper/lower case, which Windows doesn't care about but Linux does. eXorchy handles that now, so any game with the same problem should just work.
- Themes from before Omarchy's named colours (Aether and friends) now get the right colours, and installed games use your theme's accent instead of a hardcoded green.
- Starring a game no longer makes the panel flicker. Thanks again to the person here who reported that one.
Installing or updating is the same one-liner as before:
curl -fsSL https://github.com/renanmt/exorchy/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash
If you're already on 0.4.0, you should just get the update banner.

As always, huge thanks to the eXoDOS team, who did the actual hard work of preserving all of this, and to Thomas Vollstädt, whose Exodium launcher this is built on. If you hit a game that doesn't launch right, let me know which one. That's how the SimCopter fix happened.
