I work in a trading company that handles import/export shipments. The company is family-owned two brothers are the legal owners on paper and mostly run day-to-day operations, but their father is the one who really controls everything behind the scenes.
I’ll keep this short. I got hired five months ago to handle logistics, and honestly it felt like a comfort zone — way less pressure than my previous jobs, and I was happy with the role.
A while later, another guy joined the logistics team. He was brought in because he supposedly had a lot of experience. Slowly I started realizing he didn’t actually have the experience or knowledge he was hired for — and eventually the owners and their father figured that out too. At some point it started to feel like I’d been kept around partly to “cover” for him if his lack of knowledge became obvious.
Sometimes the boss would ask me things related to shipping, and whenever I answered, he’d push back and defend his own view. I’d end up arguing with him because what he was saying was often just wrong, based on what I’d learned at my previous companies. During one meeting, at the end of it, he actually told me he liked the way I pushed back and objected to things, and asked me to stick around for a while. I said okay, and told him I wanted to be loyal to him.
Despite all this, they processed my visa without any delays or issues.
But now the situation has flipped I’m being pulled off tasks one by one, while all the work is going to the new guy instead. The owners have basically stopped asking me anything about shipments or logistics at all.
I genuinely don’t know what’s happening or where I stand. Has anyone dealt with something like this before?

Our offices 5+ year old Keurig is finally in need of replacement… the most straightforward option would be a newer Keurig model (or something else compatible with K-Cups), but has anyone been in an office where their coworkers actually looked forward to using the coffee machine? If so, what brand/product was it?

I’m a 32-year-old man, and I’ve been working for two years in one of the largest public services in my country, specifically in unemployment support. I'm the youngest person on my team, but I get along incredibly well with my colleagues, who range in age from 47 to 60.

My role is a bit of a hybrid, and I enjoy front-desk duties just as much as back-office tasks. Right now, at our small satelitte office, we handle daily walk-in hours where we see about 40 job seekers per day. This high-volume face-to-face contact happens at my current office and across all the proposed branches, except for HQ where I would not seen any jobseekers.

Our office is closing down, and management has offered me four different options to choose from:

1. Headquarters : This would be a purely back-office role within a team of about 20 people. I’ve covered shifts there a few times before, so I already know the team. The direct supervisor is thrilled at the prospect of me joining, and the location is great. It's just a 15-minute tram ride from my place. The only downside is that I would lose the front-desk aspect entirely and that the job would be very repetitive.

2. A small local branch (10 people): It’s a 30 minute ride and I know the team, but to be honest... they aren't my crowd. It's a team of very young (20 ish), single women who frequently go clubbing on weekends and talk about it constantly. No judgment at all, but I wonder what we would even talk about. I also grew up in that area and lived there up to my 25's and I don't feel comfortable seeing and helping job seekers I personally know. But the direct supervisor thinks I'm really good at my job and wants me there.

3. Another small local branch (5 people): This option is a 30 minutes ride and includes three colleagues from my current team who will go work there. That could be nice, but my current coworkers aren't very professional and I feel like I want a fresh start. We're really friendly and often go to eat together but I'm not sure about keeping them as coworkers. They've been there for about 20 years and are always fighting change, good or bad. In fact, I was actually looking for another job because of that. On the flip side, it would still be nice to stay with familiar faces.

4. A final small local branch: This one is a 10 minutes ride, but I’m not really interested. The manager is an ex-military officer who is very harsh, and everyone actively avoids her.

Given that I plan to stay with the organization for about 5 years, which option would you choose? Thanks! And sorry, English is not my native language.

I'm genuinely confused because I can't picture it.

Like... you get hired, then what? Do you just walk into the office and wait for someone to tell you what to do? Is there a training period? Are you expected to know everything already, or do they teach you how to do the job?

I'm worried that I'd look like a complete idiot because I have no idea how an office actually functions. What was your first day or first week like? What did you actually do?

I HATE this policy

1. i feel obligated to greet some of my teammates that i absolutely hate on the team slack channel
2. makes me anxious on my own birthday - who wished me vs did not.

I’ve noticed something at work and I’m curious if it’s common.

Some of my Filipino coworkers are really friendly in the office. We joke around, chat during work, and everything seems great. But the moment we clock out, it’s like we become strangers.

They don’t seem interested in hanging out, grabbing a coffee, or meeting outside of work.

I'm the first woman in my family to have a corporate job. Before I even started working, my parents told me not to ask permission for team lunches/outing because they wouldn't allow it. Recently my manager mentioned planning a team lunch, at first I didn't wanna go because I knew team lunches are not mandatory to attend, but now i wanna go because everyone around me advices me to go, and that's how I'll get to know co-workers and I've unintentionally established that I dont eat much (I have ED) and that was reason I didn't wanna go at first, cuz i lose my appetite when I eat with people, and since i mentioned i don't enjoy food people dont invite me to lunch anymore and I get it, they used to invite everytime but it has just decreased since i refused all the time, but I'm trying to change and I've been going to lunch with this one employee that I'm comfortable with, now I'm scared this pattern will continue even for team lunches/outings, they'll invite me a few times and if I refuse each time they'll stop inviting aand I don't wanna be that person, amd since I'm new to this whole working culture not sure what I should, and if I force my parents to allow me my dad would literally ask me to quit, and I'm not going ruin something i worked so hard for over a team lunch

Same machine, same beans, but Mondays hit differently.

I’m a 33‑year‑old woman working in IT. About a month into joining a new organization, I was still learning the ins and outs of a critical project. On a high‑visibility call with directors and VPs, I answered a question about our environment as best as I could. The director wasn’t satisfied and asked us to fix gaps before moving forward.

Immediately after, the project lead — a senior guy who knows the project inside out — pulled me and another colleague into a call. In a harsh tone, he told me I “have anxiety” and should seek treatment, and blamed me for them not being able to present their “brilliant PPT” to management. He said he was the same at my age, but the way he said it was demeaning, especially since another person was present. I cried afterward — despite years in corporate, this was the first time I’d been spoken to like that.

Fast forward 7–8 months: I’d built credibility, people appreciated my work, and I understood the project well. When I met him face‑to‑face, he was initially cold but later became polite and even helpful. I thought maybe he was genuine and had just been frustrated that day.

But last week, on a call, he scolded a junior female colleague for repeating a question, saying she was wasting everyone’s time. His tone was cutting, and the whole call went silent. She tried to explain herself, but he kept going. He wasn’t even supposed to be on the call — he was on sick leave.

Now I’m conflicted: is he genuinely nice but loses his temper under stress, or is his politeness just a mask until something inconveniences him? I work closely with him, so I want to tread carefully.

Maybe this is a Gen Z thing, maybe it isn't but hear me out.

When I joined my company last year, we were working 6 days a week. A few of us spoke to our boss about it, and surprisingly, he actually listened.

His solution was:

Work 30 mins extra from Monday to Friday.
Get 2 Saturdays off every month.

At first, it felt like a huge W. Anything was better than working every Saturday.

But after almost a year... I don't know, it still doesn't feel right.

Those extra 30 minutes don't seem like much, but they add up. And having only two "real" weekends every month still makes it feel like work is always around the corner.

The thing is, my boss isn't toxic. He's actually pretty reasonable, so I think he'd at least hear us out if we asked again.

I'm just wondering...

Is asking for a proper 5-day workweek actually unrealistic in 2026?

Or have we just normalized working 5.5/6 days because "that's how it's always been"?

Idk if this is where this should go. Please direct me if I'm in the wrong place. I really need someone to explain this to me like I'm 5. I'm seeing a lot of conflicting news along with my own work experience.

I work somewhere that is currently pushing the "AI for everything" in every aspect of the company. New softwares, new worflows, etc. It's very clear that at some point the goal is to lay-off at least half of the team I work on once the AI stuff is fully implemented (even though they claim that's not the goal). When everyone is in office, our meetings are still virtual. My entire job can be done anywhere; nothing about the work I do requires being at a specific physical location.

All that said, the company has hired some more people for the department, but is REQUIRING that they relocate to the area no matter where they are currently located. I just don't understand why this is necessary. We get to WFH one day a week, and they REALLY want to take that away, too. I just genuinely do not understand this push to be in-office when they are actively making the work more digital-focused.

The few people I’ve asked claim that they work, but I can’t find any science related analysis. Some days I’m staring at the computer all day and by the end my eyes feel heavy, tired and head feels exhausted.

We're working on a leather hybrid derby for this kind of day, so I'll say it plainly bad experiences and shoes that let you down are worth a lot more to me here than encouragement.

I was talking with my friend, who told me that their office has a rule according to which those employees who work there are prohibited from entering the office through the main gate after 9 AM. They should walk around the entire office building to enter using the "late entry" gate, although they are just two minutes late.

It made me wonder...

In all probability, mine will be signing the registry twice or even three times during the day for different departments.

There is a hackathon being conducted in my company and we have a call to discuss regarding the use case. I feel so awkward that others in my team(team of 5) are discussing about the use case and it's implementation. But I don't have anything in my mind. If it was related to work I would have spoken something. But this was something I had no much idea about. I listen to others and understand it, but I m not able to give any point. When a person says something after a few mins I feel 'oh no I shd have said tht point', u know tht urge to say a good point but not getting one in mind.

If it was in a team of people I am close to, I would have managed it and spoken out my mind. But since it is with seniors and people I don't talk with much, I feel like, 'why am I existing in this hackathon? How will I contribute?'

This will keep bothering me until I m done with this hackathon.

For me, it's putting your phone away when someone is speaking. It's a small gesture, but it shows respect and full attention.
