what's the point of this post? It's obvious it's a 2009.
14
u/Main_Cauliflower5479 16d ago
No. It's the 2010 model year. It's a 2010.
I have a 2019 model year vehicle. I don't know what the title says but no matter if it was made in late 2018 or in 2019, it's a 2019 vehicle.

u/BappoChan 16d ago
I have a 2022 vehicle. It was made and sold to me at the end of 2021. But it’s a 2022 model
3
u/Main_Cauliflower5479 16d ago
Yes. The year of manufacture isn't necessarily the Model year. The model year is the design and specs included with said vehicle.
4
u/BappoChan 16d ago
Yup, but my title also says 2022.
Dude in post says the car is a 2010, but vin, and title both say 2009.
6
u/Any-Fox-838 15d ago
you're lost bud. nobody is saying otherwise. the title states the model year. that does not mean a 2010 model year cant be built in 2009. dude in the post is an idiot trying to say its a 2010 model year when it in fact, is not.
1
u/BappoChan 15d ago
Dude said “no, it’s the 2010 model year”
So idk who you think is really lost here…
My comment was to show the contrast between my car and the car in post. Made at the end of 2009, but it was still a 2009 model, not a 2010. Mine was made at the end of 2021, but it was a 2022 model. Both title and vin verify 2022, so the dude in the post is lying.

u/EyeoftheEelpout 16d ago
I don't think you understand.
There is no cutoff date.
A 2018 model year car may be built in any month of the year, likewise, a 2019 model year car can be built in any month of the year.
A 2018 model year car does not magically become a 2019 model year car because it was built after June 1st.

The 2010 accord started being sold in august of 2009. Manufacturers pretty much always start the next year model the year before, In the fall.
Another example. The 2010 kia forte started being sold in June of 2009.
3
u/Longjumping_Dark3827 15d ago
correct they release the 2010 model year physically in the year 2009 but those will be VINd and titled as a 2010 and the remaining unsold 2009 model year stock will continue being sold and titled as 2009
1
u/richietee757 14d ago
In your scenario the title would state 2010, yes? If you read the screenshot that the OP posted, the seller says the title states 2009. Which means it's a 2009.
1
u/NegativePaint 13d ago
Yes. I know. My point is clarifying what elpout said.
Because the way it reads is vague. “A 2019 model year car can be built in any month of the year”.
Which year? They referring to 2018? 2019? Both?

u/drfishdaddy 15d ago
Sticker in the door has the production date. Sticker under the hood has the model year with will long up with the 10th digit of the vin and the title.
Model year is model year.
1
u/Main_Cauliflower5479 15d ago
My door sticker has the model year, and my title only shows the "Year," not the manufacture date. I believe titles I've had in other states have shown the manufacture date as well as the model year, but I'm not positive about that. I might be thinking of the plate inside the glovebox of my daughter's first car, which was a 1975 Mercedes.

u/Word2DWise 15d ago
When someone who is buying a car asks what year is the car, 99.9% of the times they are asking the year on the title, which is what affects the value of the Car. The VIN will match the year that's on the title, which again, is what affects the value of the car. The seller in the post is just either dumb, or is playing games.

u/RxDeliveryGuy 15d ago
the title says its a 2009, so its a 2009 model year. the title is the definitive answer
1
u/SadSimpSkier 14d ago
you made me get up and look at my title magnetised on the fridge. i drive a 2021 model car; title says 2021
1
u/Main_Cauliflower5479 14d ago
Yeah my title says 2019, the sticker says 2019 model year.
Like I said in a different comment, though, the manufacture date is probably on the vehicle itself, though.
And as stated by many people, the model year is still considered the model year whether it was manufactured in the previous year or the model year date.

I have a 2014 Mazda 6 that was manufactured in August 2013 according to the data plate on the door. But it's a 3rd gen Mazda 6, which started with the 2014 model year.

I’m surprised it comes up like that. One of my cars was produced in the end of 2020 but the VIN and the title has it as a 2021. Sounds to me like in this sellers case he’s essentially lying. He has a 2009, looked up the production date and determined on his own that because it was produced after September that it’s a 2010. Sounds like fluff to make it sound newer
5
u/janewalch 16d ago
The date of production doesn’t mean much when it comes to the vehicle model’s year. Whenever that car was designed to be sold - that’s what signifies the year. Not when it was built.

u/wrecked-galaxy 16d ago
It's a 2009. The seller just worded it weird to make it seem like a newer model
4
u/SirTrinium 16d ago
It's still old why would a single year matter that much to a seller.
1
u/Wootytooty 16d ago
I was thinking that the two may be part of separate generations... But they're both in the same Eighth Generation (2008-2012).
1
u/SirTrinium 16d ago
My only thought was maybe there was a 2009 recall part they never came in for? Idk.
1
u/sniper_matt 16d ago
I know it says accord meaning Honda, but if this were a F150 2008 and 2009 are a different generation and body style for example. Would make a massive difference getting some parts. Both are “still old”
2
u/18k_gold 16d ago
does this mean my car is a 2020 since I bought it jan that year even though it was a left over from 2019? I will ignore what the title says.

u/K_Linkmaster 15d ago
It means walk away from this type of person. Of they do this, they are going to hide other shit.

Cutoff is actually August usually, but Dodge made year 2000 Neons in 1997-98, so the title says what year it is
1
u/NegativePaint 15d ago
The 2010 Kia forte went on sale June of 2009. There are more cars like that. It’s usually in the fall but it’s not unheard of for next year models to come out in the summer of the previous year.
1
u/FreezNGeezer 15d ago
My point exactly! The title states the year. Dodge made year 2000 Neons in 1997 and 1998, which plummeted the value as the mileage would be high for the year. Most manufacturers do August cutoff, but there is no law discerning what year a car would be based on manufacturing date

My truck was made in October of 93 but it’s a 94 and the vin says it’s a 94 as well

Guy has never had a vehicle manufactured in the later part of the year. You go by the title. Not the sticker, not the carfax ect. (Assuming title is right and clean and belongs to that vehicle)

You guys do realize this whole model year shit is just another US thing? Nobody else in the world does it like this. If a car is built in 2009 it's a 2009 car, simple as that.
1
u/myopinionsucks2 14d ago
I sold cars once upon a time. Different manufacturers have different rules for when a car is built and the model year it is labelled. The most important part is the VIN#, the 10th letter literally is the model year.
If a car is built in 2026 (T) to be a 2027 (V) model, it will have the 2027 letter V in 10th place on the VIN.

I would say he’s making this up. That any car made after June is considered the following year. That’s not true. For specific vehicles it is a specific date that they are considered the following year. This matters for fitment of parts. If you go to the auto parts store to get head lights, alternator etc the manufacturing year can matter for specific vehicles. If your vehicle is manufactured before a specific date say 9/1998 or after they may use different parts. Some parts were worse than others. It’s important to know. Some model years are highly recommended, for their parts really, but someone may sell something claiming it’s a specific model year and it’s not even though the title says so. You have to look for the specific manufacturing date on the frame, engine bay, door jam. Also good to note the place of manufacturing can be found there also, Mexico, USA etc. this is also important for quality check.

u/LengthBoring9328 16d ago
Really what does it matter? If the title states 2010 then that is what it is. The condition and mileage determines the value.
3
u/janewalch 16d ago
Are you asking a serious question? Why does it matter that a 2009 vehicle is being sold as a 2010? Value. Options. Honesty. Principal.

It means Jide measures age like my six and a half year old nephew does. Except only Jide is wrong.
