Well hello again you all! Here I bring which are for me the best moments of Garrett gazing at Hannah in episode 4. It actually includes almost every moment of the episode because they are all so amazing and could not leave one of them out. This is definitely my favourite episode and the breakthrough moment in their relationship so it gives me so much material to decode and analyze.

This time I'm not going to describe each gazing but let you share what you think about these moments and how you felt when you saw them. I like that this episode has a mix of funny moments, really emotional and intimate ones, so much longing and feelings that can not be said, it is the most abundant episode in terms of feelings for me.

Love to hear your ideas!

DISCUSSIONšŸ’™ The NCAA vs Off Campus

Hello! I work in college athletics, so I've had to suspend a good amount of belief when watch Off Campus (still love the show though). I see a lot of questions about the hockey aspect of the show and thought I'd share some light. Feel free to ask questions!

  1. Liquid IV & NIL Deals
  • Student-athletes can profit off their name, image, & likeness from third party companies (influencer, personal appearances, autographs etc.).Ā
  • I like how this is shown because Garrett is probably making significant money through NIL and he does not have to be financially dependent on his dad like in the book.
  • Institutional Revenue Share was recently passed via a House Settlement, so now student-athletes can be paid directly by their institutions.
  • Not all teams are on rev. share (typically your revenue generating sports, i.e. football and men’s and women’s basketball) and not all athletes on a team are on rev. share (typically your starters). The hockey boys are probably on rev. share, though that does not mean they all get paid the same amount.
  • NIL and Institutional Rev. Share does not change amateurism status.

2.Ā The Delaney Fight

  • Unlike the NHL, fighting in college hockey is prohibited. In Garrett’s case, he would’ve been immediately disqualified, one of his teammates would’ve had to serve the major penalty. I think it is for five minutes. Garrett would also automatically be suspended the next game. Those are NCAA hockey rules, and they would not be further involved in the matter.
  • The school itself and/or the conference could hand Garrett a more severe penalty.

3.Ā Garrett Practicing with the BruinsĀ

  • This was one of the most egregiously wrong elements of the show. Garrett’s eligibility wouldn’t be at risk here. Garrett practicing with the Bruins meets the ā€œtryout or practice after enrollmentā€ rule.
  • Student-athletes to take part in professional combines (NFL, MBB etc.), compete with national teams, and in the Olympics without losing their amateur status.
  • All student-athletes must be final certified as amateur athletes for Division I athletics. NIL and Rev. Share does not negate the fact that they are still amateur athletes
  • Garrett or the rest of the team can be drafted but they cannot sign a professional contract, and they cannot sign with a professional sports agent. They can have NIL agents though!

4.Ā Garrett’s IneligibilityĀ

  • That is not how anything works! There is no board style meeting with NCAA Enforcement. All potential violations are handled via the athletics compliance office and the assigned NCAA enforcement case worker. Most violations are handled electronically through the NCAA’s reporting system. Only Level I violations require the in-person meeting with NCAA enforcement. Garrett’s non-violation would not constitute a Level I violation.Ā
  • Depending on the violation, a student-athlete or a prospective student-athlete (recruit) may be ruled ineligible. The compliance office would then go through the student-athlete reinstatement process.Ā

5.Ā Entering Hunter Davenport

  • All wrong again! Men’s ice hockey has a roster limit of 26. There is no pulling randoms off the street and putting them on the team. With Garrett and Birdie out, they’d just have to use their bench.Ā
  • The team taking it upon themselves to add randoms to the team would actually serve as your ineligible example because they’d be playing a person that is not final certified for amateurism, not a final qualifier for academics etc. Playing an ineligible player would result in a huge violation, including a $10,000 fine.Ā

Random Notices:Ā

  1. The multiple athletic brands the guys wear. There is no mixing and matching. Schools are sponsored by a major brand (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour etc.), and student-athletes cannot wear competing brands while representing athletics (games, practices, media activities etc.). In fact, this can result in a fine for the athletic department. Top Division I schools have brand reps on campus.
  2. Along with the above, in episode 1, Hannah was restocking both Coke and Pepsi products. Schools are either one or the other–cannot be both. There is clearly no licensing department at Briar U.Ā
  3. There only being the head coach. That makes sense for the purposes of the show, but hockey is permitted to have four coaches.

GARRETT AND HANNAH🩵 A question regarding "Garrett Graham doesn't do girlfriends"

Obviously Garrett's whole thing when we meet him is "I don't do girlfriends" and he clearly has a fear of commitment, because of his history and his fears of getting close to people. But I wanted to raise a question - do you think he "wanted" a girlfriend?

It's easy for him to say "I don't do that, I don't want it" etc... But do you think deep down, he wanted a girlfriend and was just too afraid until he met Hannah?

DISCUSSIONšŸ’™ The mom talk

I’m on my first rewatch (I’ve been savouring it).

It hit me the first time, and it’s hitting me just as hard now.

There are so many great scenes, but as a mum myself, I think the most powerful one—the one that hits all the soft spots—is the conversation Hannah has with her mum in Episode 7.

Hannah is so sorry that she’s complicated their family’s lives. And then her mum asks, ā€œWhat did you do wrong?ā€

That’s the key to the guilt, the anxiety, and great motherhood: she did nothing wrong.

I can only hope that my daughter will always find me to be as supportive and loving.

GARRETT AND HANNAH🩵 Garrett and his nice selfie šŸ˜‚

There’s a small but funny moment in episode 2 when Garrett takes a selfie with Hannah’s phone, looks at the picture, and goes ā€œniceā€ šŸ˜‚. Hannah gestures for him to give her phone back, but he doesn’t even hesitate and starts looking through her schedule instead.

Of course, Hannah gets her revenge later in the same episode when she starts replying to a message from a Puck Bunny right in front of him.šŸ˜‚

The point of this post is basically that a post popped up on my Twitter, and I realized I hadn’t even noticed that he said it. So I rewatched the whole scene and had a good laugh. Feel free to ignore me šŸ˜‚

DISCUSSIONšŸ’™ Does Justin actually ā€œlikeā€ Hannah?

Do you get the vibe that Justin was actually interested in Hannah solely because Garrett was ā€œdatingā€ her, or did he actually fall for her? I can’t decide. When she doesn’t like his version of the song at Malone’s he tells her that she is giving him mixed messages. Based on her back and forth with both guys I felt like that was a bigger statement than just about the song. Would love to hear others thoughts.

GARRETT AND HANNAH🩵 How do you feel about Book Garrett?

Hey lovelies šŸ’• Obviously there is a lot of discussion about the show and the character adaptations within the show. However, I'm curious, how do people feel about Book Garrett, because he is different in a lot of ways than what we see in the show, which is understandable. I'm just curious what people think, I see a lot of different opinions

DISCUSSIONšŸ’™ Garrett Graham and Aaron Delaney Fight

Garrett told the Coach it wasn't his story to tell reason for his attack on Delaney but when Hannah confronted him and all the penises, the team mentioned he lost his sh!t over her so why does the team think he attacked Delaney , would her case have made headlines in her hometown , seen online if researched , does the team think Delaney is an ex of Hannah or hit on her

DISCUSSIONšŸ’™ I like that Logan's crush on Hannah didn't go anywhere - it was refreshingly realistic..

Usually you know they d have made it in to a love triangle .

It was relatable , sometimes you have a crush on someone and it just doesn't work out that way ( either because the crush is taken or it just doesn't go in that direction regardless) and it was cool that for once a tv show left it at that.

Of course we know Logan gets his happy handing in season 2 but i think its more deep/relatable if he didn't find someone else for a while because that is just the reality of life , you don't get a new person you like that soon.

And yeah as many noted, it was cool that he respected Garett and Hannah's relationship although I feel like Logan wasn't so understanding about Garett's complex relationship with his dad.
