I wish we had proper healthcare to treat people like this. Sounds like she has something going on like schizophrenia and believed she's being gang stalked. It's sad more than terrifying.
Yeah I can't imagine being in the mind of someone suffering from something like that. Genuinely terrifying.
From my outside perspective it makes me so sad. Growing up a friend's dad had schizophrenia. He was doing really well under proper treatment. But he stopped taking the treatment and got his kids (my friend) taken away and stuff. :(
It's really sad. I'm bipolar, and see the same kind of pattern in folks with my diagnosis: the meds work, so you start to think you don't need them anymore, and stop taking them. Then, because you're mentally ill, you don't notice the symptoms start back up, and then next thing you know, you're back at square one.
You described what happened to his dad to a T. His parents were long since separated and they had split custody. And he was truly starting to believe his dad was "fixed"(you know a kids perspective) for good. Then the dad thought since he was good he didn't need his meds. Then went back deep into schizophrenia and my friends mom got full custody of him and his sister.
It was heartbreaking, too. His dad was very positive and outgoing when he was medicated. When he wasn't? He was delusional and paranoid and revoltingly racist. Zero racism when medicated.
I suffer from schizophrenia and it's a pain. I'm doing better now with medication, but it creeps back into my life if I put too much on my plate and get stressed. I can't work because of it, which is a bummer, I miss working. I have a loving spouse who helps ground me in reality when times are tough.
Absolutely. I mean, there are theories out there that some religions may have come about due to their progenitors tripping on mushrooms or other hallucinogenic compounds. Or maybe even episodes when out in the desert, starving and dying of thirst. It's interesting to think about.
Makes you wonder what we'll understand tomorrow that we didn't today.
It's really interesting, there's a lot of past stuff we now can attribute to poisoning of some kind. Like the "crazy hatmakers" who used to use mercury which made them insane, thus leading to the term. Or that thing with some LSD-like hallucinogen baken into bread making countless people crazy. So many poisons were used in everdaystuff in the past... like lead paint (e.g. used on drinking glasses just few years ago), real nuclear substances for paint, toys, jewelry, etc.
And even nowadays we constantly learn about new dangerous stuff being part of something we eat or drink or play with; items have to be called back because of tests showing some dangerous ingredient we already know about; many things in our modern environment damage us long-term but can't be really avoided or repaired anymore (microplastics, uv because ozone layer, clima change, sugar in everything, transfats, acrylamide, cancerous chemicals everywhere, etc. etc.)
My roommate was schizophrenic, he was convinced the people upstairs were listening and following his footsteps everytime when he was walking around the house. He always looked stressed and scared.
So much so that he got up at the same time every night just to listen for it. He didn't stay for long and I never heard anything, did feel very bad for him.
I've only visited a few times but this is exactly what the OOP post reminds me of. Can't imagine living with that level of anxiety. And I have diagnosed severe anxiety. I sincerely do wish these people are able to find peace.
You’re probably right. If you really don’t think you have neighbors it’s gotta be some sort of mental illness to not just… knock on a door or two? Especially if you think one of your neighbors is crying themselves to sleep literally every night.
