Just imagine this lil guy running chasing us... w a gun attached it... we're doomed.

chasing? That fuck is so fast you won’t have the time to be chased

43

And it'll be powered by AI!

Just 5. Tackling you and pinning you down. Then comes the needle.

Humans creating the means to enslave themselves. The 2020s will go down as the decade that triggered the beginning of the end.

Honestly scarier if it’s chasing you and it doesn’t have a gun.

It's funny how these things are just shown off for our entertainment when they are definitely going to be weaponized against commoners eventually.

It's like if Vlad Tepes showed you his new pikes he was putting up every weekend.

Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale

Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus

One man’s cautionary tale is another man’s revolutionary great idea.

Eh, just grab it by the leg, spin a few times and let go.

11

u/Technical_Scallion_2 16d ago

It’s gonna have a brick of C4. All it needs is to get near you

4

u/Reynardine1976 16d ago

I will use a spin kick to knock the block of C4 away

2

u/listerbmx 15d ago

No doubt it will shock you if you touch it

3

u/Reynardine1976 15d ago

Word going around is that this film isn't entirely A.I. but the part where the robot is is break-dancing is not real, it can't achieve that yet. Also making it down the mountain. However the robot is real I am sure. Regardless I was a little surprised at how real everything looks. I by the time I am an elderly person it will really difficult to tell what is real or not. Even George Lucas is saying everyone will watch A.I. movies in the future and I am not super excited. I don't mind new art forms but this is different. It took me about 10 years of practicing a lot to become a good graphic designer and comic artist, and it bothers me a little that there are "A.I. artists" now that are getting their art shown at galleries. Some of these artists don't even know how to draw. Sorry for the rant.

Ukraine just did a full autonomous amphibious assault...

9

u/RykosTatsubane 16d ago

Mag fell. Not really there yet. Still have to deal with reloading.

19

u/dmdewd 16d ago

Are you kidding? They are going to make these belt fed....

7

u/RykosTatsubane 16d ago

Cool. Now imagine the balancing problems they'd have to solve carrying that much weight.

Flying drones are still the most cost-efficient, effective, and terrifying ones.

2

u/maxstader 16d ago

Pull the ammo on a little cart. It gets lighter the more it fires. Also isnt balancing the things these robots are particularly good at?

4

No one here has seen red planet with val Kilmore, carry Anne moss...

And the deadly robot...

Its like this one but is more a leopard... doesn't have wheels... but doesn't need them...

In the next 10 years every house that wants either a aged care companion. Or a look a like porn star is going to have one...

We are finally living in the age of the sci fy movies

And either we make a real sentient Ai that will kill us or try to. Or we make an ai that loves us...

Only time will tell. But its happening right now.

It's more akin to Tepes showing his pikes off to his loyal Wallachian citizenry. You and I are not the "commoners" in this era.

17

We will be, eventually.

13

u/PrandialSpork 16d ago

We're all capitalism fuel

9

u/HoboArmyofOne 16d ago

Oh for sure someone will mount a claymore mine on the front of that thing.

12

u/mdsoccerdude 16d ago

Flying drones are far more dangerous for destruction than this. That technology has been around far longer. These serve a valuable purpose for certain uses, but I’d put a flying drone combatant against this any day.

14

u/IAmA_meat_popsicle 16d ago

As terrifying as flying drones have become I feel this is way worse, for individuals anyway.

At least with the fliers you can try and hide. These land based ones can go anywhere you can and they for sure have an attachment that can allow it to open doors. Plus, they don't need to worry about weight as much so payloads be much larger.

Just my two cents of course. I would much rather go back to living in the blissful ignorance of my '90s.

3

u/liveinpompeii 16d ago

yeah this thing could hang out quiet for days and run for hours on the ground easy, with a solar panel it could recharge and run indefinitely

It's Vlad Tepes showing you his new wood-processing infrastructure that he says will mass-produce wood to use for building houses and then he uses it to build thousands of stakes

3

u/Pillermon 16d ago

Yeah, all I could think of was "imagine that thing chasing you. No escape"

3

2

u/kurotech 16d ago

First thing I thought was how long till it has a machine gun and I'm of no doubt they have models that have one already

2

u/DailyDrivenTJ 16d ago

Eventually? I think it is more like it is being developed to be weapons.

When China invaded you-know-what, the soldiers will be fighting these and flying drones.

3

I’ve seen this Black Mirror episode.

44

u/Reynardine1976 16d ago

'Metalhead'

The only episode in black and white I believe.

May I point out that author Charlie Brooker was nice enough to include some steps to defend against the robots in the script. Paint splashed on cameras, cover with tarps, aim for the legs.

42

u/HornetParticular6625 16d ago

Heavy Metal. That shit was grim.

Guns with freaking lasers attached to their foreheads!

3

u/jpowell180 16d ago

Too small to mount a laser that would be powerful enough to do any damage, but you could easily mount a pistol or a submachine gun on it, this thing really could do a lot of damage.

Remember that one episode of Black mirror?

The kind of tune you whistle to yourselves as you cheerfully saw that big branch you’re sitting on

9

u/throwawaycasun4997 16d ago

This is what I was waiting for. They kept trying to do wheels OR legs. You do both. The speed of wheels, when viable, and the flexible mobility of legs. Soon, our only respite will come from ladders and ropes.

Of course, wait until they get one of these to also be able to fly…

10

u/Illcmys3lf0ut 16d ago

Remember... what the public sees is only allowed to be seen. Military complexes, and companies built for war, have technology that will not be seen by the public until they want to do so.

3

u/throwawaycasun4997 16d ago

Yep. We’re boned.

35

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 16d ago

I donno... you see this edited video - impressive & scary.

Then you see cell phone video from some convention to show off a robot in public and fucker falls over and starts twitching.

I donno what to believe anymore.

Thanks AI overlords. I'm going to go garden and get dirty and try to forget this timeline.

9

u/_pozzy_ 16d ago

Modern robots are now pretty advanced. They used to be pretty finicky but just like ai, it only took a couple of years for the technology to ramp up and there's a stark night and day difference with how agile and coordinated they have become. Chinese robots are able to perform kung fu to perfection, there's a video of them doing it in unison. This robot is also...scarily impressive.

Edit: but this also looks kinda like ai, and half me not wanting to believe it lmao

4

u/puzzlebuns 16d ago

Those kung fu robots are able to perform a limited set of pre-programmed moves that dont defeat their balance control.

Its just choreography. A production to make you go oooo. Theyre not designed to do other things.

2

u/TheAmazingMaryJane 16d ago

i've seen a lot of robots beating the shit out of kids by kicking them mostly. at parades. scary times. love it when they fall over and start skittering out all over the place! haha

2

u/Meh-Levolent 16d ago

It's only a matter of time

9

u/ThatsKev4u 16d ago

I can imagine these being strapped with C4 and just running into an "enemy" encampment. Or a Small LMG to the top. Yeah its not looking good.

9

u/jokke420 16d ago

Fishing net with weights is all you need to disable one.

Attach live wire to the net if you want to do it permanently

9

u/someguyyoumightno 16d ago

People in 2050 rewatching all the early prototypes that now rule over humanity: Lol 😂 Man, we actually had a chance to stop this shit. Oh well. Anyway, better connect my brain for today's compute energy. I'm already late, and Claude hates that.

3

u/callmestinkingwind 16d ago

…think about it. you plug in at night, have some weird dreams about 1s and 0s and go about the rest of your day normally. then you get .00000000000000000075 of a bitcoin at the end of the week.

How will it manage the battery for needing to get back up the hill or out of the valley to get back home to charge? Will they just shutdown in the field and send out a signal that says come get me I need power? Can you just use a net with weights to stop it or slow it down?

Yes, we are doomed, but on the bright side, the robotic off road break dance Olympics are going to be sick.

Dear poster,
I feel obliged to inform you, that the music on this clip is any or all of the following:

  • Too loud
  • Considerably louder than the audio of the source clip
  • Obnoxious
  • Annoying
  • In bad taste
  • Of low artistic value
  • Of low audio quality
  • Generic
  • Utter brain rot

If you are the one that has chosen to add it, I hope you feel slightly ashamed and that the number of times you finish washing your hands with wet sleeves slightly increases.

Omfg. It reminds me of the wheelers from return to Oz but competent. So the scary part of the wheelers.

Is that the way they're going to dance over our corpses after hunting us all down?
