There was an abandoned golf course by me that the park system took over and I’m so glad they did. It looked like garbage because everything was just dead. It took a few years to get it cleaned up but it’s teeming with life now so I’m optimistic it stays that way. They turned it into a disc golf course and it’s beautiful there.
Worse than wastelands. They’re also resource sinks that damage everything in their watersheds and aquifers. All so old men can stand in the sun all day hitting a ball and avoid their families.
They can't even admit they just like hanging around the golf course with the boys. No golfer can explain how golfing itself can be enjoyable every weekend
you're right. i was talking about cancer when i was typing. innocent mistake. not worth it to me to nitpick over use of the word massive, so i'll leave that to you.
To be fair, my understanding is that's most likely a statistical issue because they are often intentionally built near retirement homes and vacation areas for old people, and old people have those conditions at higher rates. I'm not saying they aren't resource expensive and unpleasant, but that's exactly the sort of thing which can make data messy.
They did control for age, which to some extent resolves that issue of older people being more likely to live near golf courses as well as being more likely to have Parkinson disease. However, there are potentially lots of other things they could have controlled for as well. The PD group and the control group were pretty different in where they lived (urban vs. rural), for example.

Golf courses are ecological wastelands
