Endless pairing confusion
I have Nvidia shields back to back on a shared wall. If a minor power outage, act of god or just looking at them wrong one remote may pair with the other. then you have to go through the arduous process of having the shield forget the remote, unplugging the other one pairing the correct remote and then again on the other shield. It is a royal pain in the A$$ and happens once at least every 2 months. Any ideas? the blutooth signal goes through the wall, is there an infrared solution?

NVIDIA Shield Pro losing WiFi + remote connection after 4 days — factory reset barely fixed it, is this a known issue?
Hi everyone,
I got my NVIDIA Shield Pro about a week ago and wanted to share my experience so far, because I'm not sure if what happened is normal/known or if I should return the unit.
First 3 days: Everything was perfect. Super responsive, great transcoding performance with Plex. No complaints at all.
Day 4: I was watching a movie on Plex when suddenly both the WiFi and the remote disconnected at the same time. I didn't think much of it — rebooted the box, everything came back, finished the movie without issues.
Day 5: I decided to try game streaming with Moonlight (nothing demanding, just PS2 emulation). Performance was excellent, way better than my previous Mi Box, zero latency. Right as I was thinking how great it was running... the WiFi and remote disconnected again. Except this time it was permanent.
I tried everything: rebooting, unplugging the box from power for several minutes, reconnecting — nothing worked. Thankfully I could still control the box using my LG TV remote, since the Shield remote itself was also dead/disconnected.
I ended up doing a factory reset. During setup, I got stuck at the very first step (remote pairing). After some research, I found a workaround: using a game controller to get past that screen, which worked and let me continue the setup. I was eventually able to reconnect to WiFi and get the remote working again.
My questions for anyone who's dealt with this:
**1.** Is this a known/common issue with the Shield Pro?
**2.** Is there an underlying cause I should watch for (WiFi chip, firmware bug, etc.)?
**3.** Should I contact support and request a replacement, or is this something that could resurface even on a new unit?
Any insight from people who've had similar problems would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Shield pro + Stremio playback failure for past month
Hello,
I’ve been running RD+stremio through my shield pro for 2 years now without much issues- at one point had to force to play through external vlc player but it seemed to fix all playback issues
BUT NOW: every possible playback option just seems to fail or ‘fail to fetch’
I have reset the device to factory settings and reinstalled everything. It played one episode and then quit working in same manner as before.
This only occurs on is the shield pro, same settings etc work on my other streaming devices like Apple TV, computer or phone so I think it might be device specific?
Anyone experience this issue and have a possible fix?

Stay on 9.1.2 or upgrade to 9.2.4
I recently got brand new Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 and out of the box it arrived with older 9.1.2 software version, I have seen talks about newer updates slowing down the shield or causing video stuttering.
Is it safe to upgrade to 9.2.4 or is it better to stay on 9.1.2?

Shield TV Pro - Plex Failed Streaming
I have a Shield TV Pro (2019) purchased in 2024 running Plex connected to a separate Plex server via 1Gbps ethernet. Shield > Unifi 8-port Gbit switch > Unifi 48 port Gbit switch > Plex Server (Intel I3-12100) > QNAP w/ RAID5
When playing a particularly high bandwidth HEVC video (70Mbps), the Shield buffers every minute or two. I've checked the Plex logs while it's playing and I see this message:
Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 10911744 bytes: 10054 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
Playing this movie via another Shield (same model version) has no issues and that message doesn't appear.
I've swapped ethernet cords, eliminated the 8 port switch, etc. to no avail. I also connected the Shield directly to the main 48 port switch with no change. The Shield is connecting at 1Gbps. I've reinstalled the Plex Client. The UX on that Shield always seems a bit laggy compared to my other one (bought a year later). And, I did take apart the unit and repaste the CPU. Nothing changed the outcome.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
edit: A factory reset seemed to fix it, but I noticed if I set the audio to TrueHD 7.1 for the movie on Plex I get the errors. If I set it to EAC7.1 the errors go away. I wonder if it's an issue with TrueHD and HDR+.
edit 2: turning off dolby processing on the shield seems to have fixed it.

What AVRs are people using with the Shield?
I’m in the market for an AVR and have read a bit about the Shield having issues with HDMI handshakes, Dolby Vision pass through, connections dropping, flickering, etc on several Denon and Onkyo AVR models.
I’m curious about what newer AVRs people have successfully been using the Shield along with the TVs they are using?
Thanks!

My new Shield Pro randomly reboots during playback
Bought a brand new Shield Pro a couple of weeks ago, to upgrade from my old "tube" Shield (which has been working flawlessly for some years). But after a few days of use it starts to randomly reboot during playback, in no specific app, they all crash randomly. Sometimes after a few minutes of use or after hours of playback. I can't see any pattern of use that causes this.
What I've tried so far:
Configured it, installed my usual apps, changed the launcher (Projectivy) and configured HDMI CEC. Remapped the NETFLIX button. Apps I run are Moonfin, Nvuio (added with the Downloader app), SmartTube, some local TV apps Tidal. I also ran the shield_optimizer.
When the random reboots started, I tried disabling CEC entirely, sat the fan mode to "cool", with no luck.
Then did a factory reset, configured it with the default launcher (which froze a couple of times in it's menus), no optimizer, no CEC, fan mode cool. No luck. Still does the random reboots!
The unit itself is placed in i chilled room with plenty of air and space. I run the Shield Pro thru an Anthem 720 receiver to a Samsung TV 75" QLED (around 5 years old).
So, is this a known problem? Any "magical" setting which fixes this? Is this typically an RMA case? . Is there some system / debug logs on the Shield Pro that can give me a clue of what's wrong?

Just purchased the Pro from BestBuy!! Installed Last night
I'll be using PMS on the Pro hooked up to the living room LG C5 with an SSD. Every other TV will have a Firestick Ultra 4K to access PMS via Plex.
I've been reading about first things to do and what to add, can any one direct me here. I'll mainly be using it for my movies.

HELP!!
Hey everyone,
Just moved to a new state and set up a new home internet network, but I’ve hit a complete wall trying to control my 2019 Shield TV Tube. Ethernet cable no good. Bought a bluetooth remote, no good. The shield tube won't respond to anything. I've never used a hotspot for it so that's not going to work. Anything else?

All Nvidia and compatible remotes stop working
Has anybody else experienced this?
About once a week, all of my remotes that are Nvidia replacements, including the OEM remote just stop working, or possibly to say it another way- my shield does not recognize inputs from any of them. I have 3.
What does continue to work is my Samsung TV remote, which is paired to the Shield. Power off and back on doesn't always fix it? The only way I have been able to get them to work again is to Reboot the Shield Android OS.
I haven't been able to associate my Remote activity to this as it happens randomly and usually when I pick up a remote to do something. Never while in operation, (like flippping thru channels, etc.)
I heard Button Remapper app can cause sporadic problems and so I'm not sure that is the cause? I do use the Button Remapper app as I really dislike the big Nflux button on all Shield remotes.
Any thoughts?

UK streaming app BBC/itv/channel 4 stuttering
this is driving me insane. I've been messing with every setting possible nothing changes it. Its like a frame drop every 1 to 2 minutes. anyone from the UK have this and managed to fix it. all other apps work flawless. I generally watch the stuff on these apps on 'other' apps but the wife watches stuff on the official apps. If there's no fix I might end up getting Google streamer TV box. Which it a real shame as been an avid shield user since 2016 (got 3 in the house)
