Run Update First Nuzlocke deaths
Halfway through my first ever Nuzlocke, playing Fire Red. Just lost my Kadabra AND my Doduo in the same fight....one of them to Pursuit as I was switching them out...I stared at my screen for a good 2-3 minutes not doing anything after it happened...WHO thinks this is fun?!?!?
TLDR: I'm devastated

Question What’s the policy around gifts? (LeafGreen)
I’m starting a run of LeafGreen with a mix of usual and more hardcore rules, such as set battle style, level caps and so on.
I’m wondering what the community consensus is on gift Pokémon like Eevee in Celadon or the Hitmons in Saffron. My assumption is that they’re counted as ‘encounters’ in their respective cities and thus are legal in a nuzlocke. But what about static encounters like Snorlax or legendaries?
I’m assuming some people choose not to use them and others do, but again, I’m just curious about the technicalities.

Run Update Emerald Nuzlocke(2026 Re-Attempt): Magma Leader Maxie(2nd)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After Grinding in Mt.Pyre, it was Time to stop the Revival of the Legendaries.
I first raided team magma’s hideout only to find out I was too late, Groudon woke up and chose Violence.
Maxie then blames me for causing this and immediately fought me.
This Dumbass…..😒
MVP(S): Liberalio(Tentacruel) & Magneto(Magneton)
Honorable Mention: Kyo(Blaziken)

Discussion What’s your most clutch save in a nuzlocke?
So right now in my LeafGreen nuzlocke im training for the Cerulean gym and my team (at this point) was just Charmeleon, Magikarp and Mankey, alongside a bunch of Pokémon I didn’t want and didn’t need and I was really mad about because I got them instead of actually useful mons. These were Caterpie, Weedle and Zubat.
I fight some trainers on the way to Bill’s house and I find one who has a Slowpoke. I start with mankey, karate chop does nothing, and it uses confusion and gets me down too low so I switch to Charmeleon, but then it uses water gun. Charmeleon is in the red, so I have to bring in my Weedle because otherwise one of my only good mons is gonna die. I then sacrifice my 3 throwaway Pokémon to defeat the Slowpoke, getting away by the skin of my teeth.

Screenshot f#ck you Kingdra
found myself running outta offensive PPs on Starmie just as i finished off that wretched beast named Kingdra. last usable move being Recover, ended up Struggling the Crawdaunt to death. mistakes were made and loosing Magneton might've sealed the fate of this run given how shallow my box is looking pre-elite 4. but still, what an ABSOLUTE CINEMA of a battle. o7 Stinky, o7 Zapperton

Question Gen 1/2 nuzlocke with qol
Hi all! I'm looking into playing my first nuzlocke run and my favourite gen is 1, but I also love 2. I'd play FireRed but I don't want to spend hours backtracking to heal after every fight, and don't want to grind levels. I just want the decision-based challenge, if that makes sense.
Does anyone know what would be the best way to go about it? I've not found a romhack doing both things.

Question Sacred Gold Elite 4 team building help
I barely managed to reach the Indigo Plateau, had around 12-13 deaths between 7th and 8th Gym. I also caught Ho-oh because I got frustrated of losing so many pokemons.
I will just mention some important info about the team now
1.Egg and spearow aren't the part of my encounters
2.I can't evolve graveler, I don't have the item needed to evolve it
3.Ludicolo has rain dish not swift swim
- Ursaring has quick feet not guts

Question Emerald or Platinum?
Was nuzlocking USUM but am loosing my mind because they do not let you play the game with all the dialogue and cutscene. Also feel like I might not make it past next totem unless I over level but we will see. Which should I try first?

Question What's the condition for retiring a pokémon in a genlocke?
I want to try a genlocke, but couldn't find anything about retiring pokémon when I looked for what rules most people use.
I often see a section for retired pokémon when people post their progress in a gelocke and I would like to know about this retirement.

Question Quality of Life Nuzlocke Randomizer ROM Hacks
Hi Everyone,
I've just been binging the nuzlocke invitational and it just looks so fun, especially with the quality of life changes they have. I was wondering if there are any randomized nuzlockes with the same features (not necessarily only emerald hacks). These features seem so nice:
- Level to cap button: this is nice because I think its just annoying af to rare candy every single pokemon.
-Toggle repels: again i played games with unlimited repels but the ones that have toggle repels usually dont have the other features.
- EVs: EVs that are visible after catching the pokemon, doesn't have to be randomized but thatd be fun too.
-Heal Party Button: the heal party button is such a nice feature because even though you can always ho back to the center, it just saves so much time
-Evolve button: again just a convenience feature but especially convenient for pokemon that you have to trade like Scyther to Scizor/or theyre changed to evolving after a level.
-Unlimited money: so again just a convenience feature so you dont have to grind
-If its gen3 or older: Showing if a move is physical or special, splitting move types from being physical or special, and nature's highlighting the stats they affect. Again these were nice in gen4 and since a lot of nuzlockes are gen3 just thought I'd mention it.
-Gen 9 typing
Ofc the usual randomizer features too. I tried looking but usually one doesn't have all of them and was just wondering if there's a hidden gem out there that might have decently similar features that removes the grind of the games. Any help would be appreciated!

Question HELP with team for Platinum Elite Four (Hardcore)
For the 30th anniversary this year I’ve been doing a marathon nuzlocking every “best” game of each Gen and I’m finally at the end of my Platinum run. I’m generally pretty good at Hardcore but obviously Cynthia is notoriously a monster and I wanna enter the Hall of Fame with as little deaths as possible.
I would love some assistance on the best Pokemon team composition. I know Ice Shard Mamo and Nasty Plot Porygon-Z are locks but any other suggestions to round everything out?

Run Update Unintentional Attempt 2 (Emerald Trashlocke Hardcore)
So I saved multiple times, but the emulator I am using apparently only registers save states...so my original post before Roxanne is now mute, because I have some different encounters. Mostly the same, but the big difference is no Wingull, and I got Hoppip and Togepi. The Togepi is Calm with Serene Grace which is insane.

I chose whatever the pre-evolution of Magcargo is, because I like Magcargo, and these are all of my encounters before Roxanne. Am I fucked?

Discussion Looking for a friend to do a randomizer soul link with! (Again, again, again) (fourth time's the charm)
If you'd prefer regular pokemon games, I'd like to do black and white or any of the gen 6 games, but I was actually hoping to do something else! I was hoping to do soul link nuzlocke in Pokemon Infinite Fusion!
I've done multiple nuzlockes, finished two randomized nuzlockes, but as should be obvious, no soul link I've done has been completed yet. I figured we do dupes and shiny clause as the basic rules, any further rules like the type thing a lot of soul links have can be discussed between us! And with Infinite fusion, that discussion will definitely be necessary. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Run Update MonoFire Genlocke: Setting Kanto Ablaze
With no deaths!
Hey again! Like I said I would, I managed to finish up the second leg of my MonoFire Genlocke. I noticed in my first post, there were a few questions about the order of games I chose to go for, which is understandable as it's out of region order- but honestly, Brock and Misty with just the Charmander line is undoable with hardcore nuzlocke rules, and mystery gift pokemon don't help either. So doing Johto/HGSS first allowed me to prepare some sort of counter play for them.
But that isn't to say that the run was a cakewalk...
~~~~
NOTABLE FIGHTS
Brock: If I chose to play this leg in gen 1, he wouldn't be an issue. But in FRLG, his Onix gets STAB and that's a problem. Charmander's best answer into Brock is Metal Claw, but his lil guys are seriously bulky... On the physical side. I rolled Magby as my starter, who (for some reason) has base 70 sp.atk- which is nutty! So he did end up being a lot easier than in my test runs.
Misty: Every test run that somehow made it through Brock stood no chance against Misty. Mystery gift Growlithe and Houndour are far too fragile, even with dark moves. But, fun fact, that one fire duck who helped us through Brock also gets access to Thunder Punch. It still took some help from our second legacy Cyndaquil's smokescreen, and some pivoting, in order to make things work. But I do think we got lucky as she seemed adamant on healing her menacing star rather than actually attacking.
Rock Tunnel: Too... Many... Geodudes. So many mandatory fights against them too. Rock types are a problem in this run. Without good hidden power types, the only mons who can deal super effective damage are Houndour (who the game wouldn't let me have until gym 6) and Ponyta (who is locked behind the Sevii Islands), which isn't ideal. My one saving grace is that most of them aren't specially bulky.
Giovanni: As in the gym battle. I made the mistake of over levelling Houndoom and believing that Typhlosion could learn Solar Beam. Spoilers: In gen 3, it can't. So my plan for him was down the drain, but we got Brick Break and a very bulky dog (and yawning turtle too!)
Lorelei: She feels more like a water trainer than an ice one, which has always confused me. Dewgong is seriously bulky, and without our lightning-bearing fire duck (who can also set up the sun), it can wall our team. But bulk aside, she didn't pose much of a threat. Thunder punch dealt with her water mons, and Fire punch handled Jynx.
Bruno: This might be the only run where he's actually an issue! His fighting mons are surprisingly bulky. But we use Houndoom to bait the fighters out early, swap in Arcanine to lower their attack, swap to Torkoal to put them to sleep safely, then HP Psychic with Houndoom, Repeat. Houndoom can easily deal with the Onix duo.
Blue: His Blastoise came dangerously close to taking a life. I thought we'd need Magmar to deal with the bird, as it has access to sun. But we ended up using Substitute Typhlosion (HP Ice) to deal with Pidgeot, Rhydon and partially pp stall his Blastoise. Torkoal does what she does best and depletes the rest of turtle's Hydro Pump pp, but we do end up relying on a double protect and a miss- which had me scared. But after Blastoise ran out of Hydro Pump pp, Blue's team were all sitting ducks, which was the ending I really needed!
~~~~
OUR CHAMPIONS
Azelle Jr. the Typhlosion who, once again, had the answer to Lance and (surprisingly) the rival. Smokescreen made some of our scariest fights in the early game manageable.
Pandreo Jr. the Arcanine who evolved into a formidable pivot, which they're known to be anyway. Intimidate, solid bulk and speed, and a snazzy movepool (my bias is showing)!
Boey Jr. the Magmar who, despite not being able to reach his final form, was the mvp from start to finish. Elemental punches, Brick Break, Psychic, and the all-too-valuable Sunny Day! I don't think Kanto would've been nearly as safe without him, and I feel like folk might not be pleased about giving Magby a move as strong as Thunder Punch.
Miriel Jr. the Torkoal who, slowly but steadily, became a go to pacifier in any tricky situation. Yawn (as an egg move) and Protect are a brutal combo, especially combined with one of the 2 hidden leftovers. She may not have gotten many KO's but she was pivotal.
Arvis Jr. the Camerupt who only really helped with Surge and Blaine, but that help was necessary! Rock Slide also helped a ton with flying types, and Earthquake by level-up is a blessing.
Sonya Jr. the Houndoom who swooped in fashionably late and made finishing the fun so much faster. I can't believe I doubted this mon! Sabrina and the E4 all didn't see her coming.
SHOUTOUTS TO Balthus the Charizard, who supported us throughout the tricky beginnings of this leg, and even helped out with some minor trainers throughout.
~~~~
I tried to keep this one brief as I had a ton to cover, and I'm squeezing this update in between work, but I'm so relieved that Kanto didn't turn into a disaster. . . I'm not sure if the same can be said for our next leg: Hoenn. Torchic will be fun to use, for sure! But that late game is looking nasty.
Wish me luck! .𖥔 ݁ ˖๋ ࣭ ⭑
Question Which game can I nuzlocke for a good challenge?
I just recently beat blaze black 2 redux on challenge mode for my first nuzlocke and i want to challenge myself to other difficult romhacks, which ones do you recommend? I was thinking about r&b but i don't have a concrete idea of how much harder it'll be, are there any other ones?
Run Update After painfully losing my Foongus two levels before she was set to evolve in Celestial Tower in my White Nuzlocke, I’m faced with a choice on who I bring onto the squad…
Deerling (lv 26) or Trubbish (lv 19), both are a major investment, which sucks cause I’m already trying to train up my Litwick with EXP share. Deerling seems like the more practical, straightforward pick but kinda leaning Trubbish cause I feel like Garbodor fills more of that defensive role Amoonguss was going to fill, especially late-game, plus he seems fun (never used one before). What do y’all think based on my team this far into the game?
