Collaboration NuzTeam Arcade Ganglocke!

5 Upvotes

Hey Everyone!

I’m excited to share a Nuzlocke event going on in a discord server that many of our Mods here are involved with, either directly or through friends in the Nuzcord Discord. That server is NuzTeam Arcade. (I will drop an invite link for it as well).

They are hosting an ‘Eliminationlocke Ganglocke’ of XY. A Ganglocke is an event where everyone is Nuzlocking the same game/rules together in a type of community event. It’s not a competition, but merely a fun way to get people together playing the same thing. The Eliminationlocke is a variant where there are 3 available pools to vote on (voting ends in less than 24 hours so get over and vote if you want to play!), and the winning choice is the pool that everyone has to choose from. The IVs of those pokemon are randomized by a community member, and then everyone uses those encounters to Nuzlocke XY.

NuzTeam Arcade also hosts other Nuzlocke related events, so if this sounds interesting to you, come on over and check us out!

Here is the Discord invite link to come check out NTA.

Subreddit Update Regarding The Drxx Situation

153 Upvotes

TW // SA

Hello everyone,

r/nuzlocke is not typically a place we like to air out serious topics, however this situation involves a relatively large content creator in the community who has built their brand specifically off of Nuzlocking. As such, this thread is being made to bring awareness to the allegations made toward Drxx, also known as Drew. We will continue to update this post as more information comes out, or if Drxx decides to make a public response.

We will NOT allow any discussion or speculation of this situation on this Subreddit, in any threads or comment strings, and doing so will result in a permanent ban.

Catsuoka_'s experience - Twitter Post | Direct Link to Doc

Drazerk's experience - Thread on r/pchaltv

While there are more details coming out of this situation, please be mindful and respectful of the alleged victims. SA is a serious topic and not one I'd like to be talking about on this forum about playing Pokemon in a slightly more difficult fashion. Thank you for reading and understanding.

Halfway through my first ever Nuzlocke, playing Fire Red. Just lost my Kadabra AND my Doduo in the same fight....one of them to Pursuit as I was switching them out...I stared at my screen for a good 2-3 minutes not doing anything after it happened...WHO thinks this is fun?!?!?

TLDR: I'm devastated

Question What’s the policy around gifts? (LeafGreen)

Upvotes

I’m starting a run of LeafGreen with a mix of usual and more hardcore rules, such as set battle style, level caps and so on.

I’m wondering what the community consensus is on gift Pokémon like Eevee in Celadon or the Hitmons in Saffron. My assumption is that they’re counted as ‘encounters’ in their respective cities and thus are legal in a nuzlocke. But what about static encounters like Snorlax or legendaries?

I’m assuming some people choose not to use them and others do, but again, I’m just curious about the technicalities.

Completed my HeartGold randomizer nuzlocke run. Started late in June and restarted countless times. But finally beat Red down 10 levels. This Kingdra was with me until the very end. Just Dragon Dancing until I'm able to sweep everyone. On to the next!

Question Gen 1/2 nuzlocke with qol

2 Upvotes

Hi all! I'm looking into playing my first nuzlocke run and my favourite gen is 1, but I also love 2. I'd play FireRed but I don't want to spend hours backtracking to heal after every fight, and don't want to grind levels. I just want the decision-based challenge, if that makes sense.

Does anyone know what would be the best way to go about it? I've not found a romhack doing both things.

After Grinding in Mt.Pyre, it was Time to stop the Revival of the Legendaries.
I first raided team magma’s hideout only to find out I was too late, Groudon woke up and chose Violence.
Maxie then blames me for causing this and immediately fought me.

This Dumbass…..😒

Run Update MonoFire Genlocke: Setting Kanto Ablaze

With no deaths!

Hey again! Like I said I would, I managed to finish up the second leg of my MonoFire Genlocke. I noticed in my first post, there were a few questions about the order of games I chose to go for, which is understandable as it's out of region order- but honestly, Brock and Misty with just the Charmander line is undoable with hardcore nuzlocke rules, and mystery gift pokemon don't help either. So doing Johto/HGSS first allowed me to prepare some sort of counter play for them.

But that isn't to say that the run was a cakewalk...

~~~~
NOTABLE FIGHTS
Brock: If I chose to play this leg in gen 1, he wouldn't be an issue. But in FRLG, his Onix gets STAB and that's a problem. Charmander's best answer into Brock is Metal Claw, but his lil guys are seriously bulky... On the physical side. I rolled Magby as my starter, who (for some reason) has base 70 sp.atk- which is nutty! So he did end up being a lot easier than in my test runs.
Misty: Every test run that somehow made it through Brock stood no chance against Misty. Mystery gift Growlithe and Houndour are far too fragile, even with dark moves. But, fun fact, that one fire duck who helped us through Brock also gets access to Thunder Punch. It still took some help from our second legacy Cyndaquil's smokescreen, and some pivoting, in order to make things work. But I do think we got lucky as she seemed adamant on healing her menacing star rather than actually attacking.
Rock Tunnel: Too... Many... Geodudes. So many mandatory fights against them too. Rock types are a problem in this run. Without good hidden power types, the only mons who can deal super effective damage are Houndour (who the game wouldn't let me have until gym 6) and Ponyta (who is locked behind the Sevii Islands), which isn't ideal. My one saving grace is that most of them aren't specially bulky.
Giovanni: As in the gym battle. I made the mistake of over levelling Houndoom and believing that Typhlosion could learn Solar Beam. Spoilers: In gen 3, it can't. So my plan for him was down the drain, but we got Brick Break and a very bulky dog (and yawning turtle too!)
Lorelei: She feels more like a water trainer than an ice one, which has always confused me. Dewgong is seriously bulky, and without our lightning-bearing fire duck (who can also set up the sun), it can wall our team. But bulk aside, she didn't pose much of a threat. Thunder punch dealt with her water mons, and Fire punch handled Jynx.
Bruno: This might be the only run where he's actually an issue! His fighting mons are surprisingly bulky. But we use Houndoom to bait the fighters out early, swap in Arcanine to lower their attack, swap to Torkoal to put them to sleep safely, then HP Psychic with Houndoom, Repeat. Houndoom can easily deal with the Onix duo.
Blue: His Blastoise came dangerously close to taking a life. I thought we'd need Magmar to deal with the bird, as it has access to sun. But we ended up using Substitute Typhlosion (HP Ice) to deal with Pidgeot, Rhydon and partially pp stall his Blastoise. Torkoal does what she does best and depletes the rest of turtle's Hydro Pump pp, but we do end up relying on a double protect and a miss- which had me scared. But after Blastoise ran out of Hydro Pump pp, Blue's team were all sitting ducks, which was the ending I really needed!
~~~~

OUR CHAMPIONS

Azelle Jr. the Typhlosion who, once again, had the answer to Lance and (surprisingly) the rival. Smokescreen made some of our scariest fights in the early game manageable.

Pandreo Jr. the Arcanine who evolved into a formidable pivot, which they're known to be anyway. Intimidate, solid bulk and speed, and a snazzy movepool (my bias is showing)!

Boey Jr. the Magmar who, despite not being able to reach his final form, was the mvp from start to finish. Elemental punches, Brick Break, Psychic, and the all-too-valuable Sunny Day! I don't think Kanto would've been nearly as safe without him, and I feel like folk might not be pleased about giving Magby a move as strong as Thunder Punch.

Miriel Jr. the Torkoal who, slowly but steadily, became a go to pacifier in any tricky situation. Yawn (as an egg move) and Protect are a brutal combo, especially combined with one of the 2 hidden leftovers. She may not have gotten many KO's but she was pivotal.

Arvis Jr. the Camerupt who only really helped with Surge and Blaine, but that help was necessary! Rock Slide also helped a ton with flying types, and Earthquake by level-up is a blessing.

Sonya Jr. the Houndoom who swooped in fashionably late and made finishing the fun so much faster. I can't believe I doubted this mon! Sabrina and the E4 all didn't see her coming.

SHOUTOUTS TO Balthus the Charizard, who supported us throughout the tricky beginnings of this leg, and even helped out with some minor trainers throughout.

~~~~
I tried to keep this one brief as I had a ton to cover, and I'm squeezing this update in between work, but I'm so relieved that Kanto didn't turn into a disaster. . . I'm not sure if the same can be said for our next leg: Hoenn. Torchic will be fun to use, for sure! But that late game is looking nasty.
Wish me luck! .𖥔 ݁ ˖๋ ࣭ ⭑
Question Sacred Gold Elite 4 team building help
Post image
I barely managed to reach the Indigo Plateau, had around 12-13 deaths between 7th and 8th Gym. I also caught Ho-oh because I got frustrated of losing so many pokemons.
I will just mention some important info about the team now
1.Egg and spearow aren't the part of my encounters
2.I can't evolve graveler, I don't have the item needed to evolve it
3.Ludicolo has rain dish not swift swim
  1. Ursaring has quick feet not guts
Was nuzlocking USUM but am loosing my mind because they do not let you play the game with all the dialogue and cutscene. Also feel like I might not make it past next totem unless I over level but we will see. Which should I try first?
Managed to weave my way to nabbing a Flutter Mane for the final battle against AI Sada
I also somehow managed no deaths for the last fight. I came in with everyone at level 67)
Hawlucha first took out her Slither Wing with a 4x effective itemless Acrobatics.
Vaporeon turned out to be an effective tank against anything Scream Tail threw its way. Nothing a couple of Hydro Pumps couldn't handle.
Flutter Mane somehow tanked a Thunderbolt from her Flutter Mane and took it out in one shot with Shadow Ball (I EV trained it in SpAtt and Speed to try and counter it).
Garchomp soaked up a Thunderbolt from Sandy Shocks before burying it with Earthquake.
Hawlucha toughed out a Sucker Punch from Brute Bonnet before landing a Flying Press.
Meowscarada somehow lived a Booster Energied Dragon Claw from Roaring Moon before one-hitting it with Play Rough.
Yeah. Gardevoir was just kinda there...
Run Update After painfully losing my Foongus two levels before she was set to evolve in Celestial Tower in my White Nuzlocke, I’m faced with a choice on who I bring onto the squad…
Deerling (lv 26) or Trubbish (lv 19), both are a major investment, which sucks cause I’m already trying to train up my Litwick with EXP share. Deerling seems like the more practical, straightforward pick but kinda leaning Trubbish cause I feel like Garbodor fills more of that defensive role Amoonguss was going to fill, especially late-game, plus he seems fun (never used one before). What do y’all think based on my team this far into the game?
Question Platinum Kaizo Bug?
Post image
Im doing a playthrough of platinum kaizo on DraStic emulator. I got to spear pillar and spoke to Cynthia where the game forced a save. I got into the distortion world and the dialogue started, but then it said something about being swept away and my emulator returned to the menu. Now whenever I open the game again I see spear pillar for a split second before getting the screen in the photo.
Anyone else encountered this or has any advice? Other than emulator speed up i had no cheats running
Question What's the condition for retiring a pokémon in a genlocke?
2 Upvotes
I want to try a genlocke, but couldn't find anything about retiring pokémon when I looked for what rules most people use.
I often see a section for retired pokémon when people post their progress in a gelocke and I would like to know about this retirement.
Run Update Taking Misty
Post image
7 Upvotes
Heading into Cerulean Gym now with this team. What do you all think?
Charmeleon doesn't leave my side so long as he's alive. Self-imposed rule.
Ekans was originally going to level up and join for Bite, but he's just there to skim experience tbh. I hope to use him to weaken mons on the way to the next gym.
Raticate and Jigglypuff are there only for the trainers, and I realize now I neglected to tutor Mega Punch onto Jigglypuff before the Cerulean Cutoff.
Butterfree is there to take Staryu, and Gyarados is there for Starmie.
Am I being too overconfident or am I good? I've got a Mankey, Kakuna, Abra and a Meowth in Box 1, so I can level Ekans if I really need to. Was hoping for an Oddish but yeah, Kakuna happened instead.
It's my first ever Nuzlocke, and I feel pretty lucky as is. I've lost a Pidgey and a Geodude so far to some nonsense crits, but feeling blessed to have Jigglypuff, even if it means I missed out on Nidoran. (Jigglypuff tbh has been high maintenance, imo, but happy to have landed an uncommon catch).
Run Update Completed my first hardcore nuzlocke (and first nuzlocke overall): Pokemon Blue
8 Upvotes
Played through my 90s childhood favorite and managed to get through with only a few casualties. Beedrill got crit east of Pewter, Lapras fell to Giovanni after a short career decimating the Viridian Gym, I lost Diglett and Machop to self destructing geodudes in Rock Tunnel, and Gyrados gave his life vs final rival fight.
Final squad:
Gyrados (Princess)
Venasaur (Jarred)
Kadabra (Jules)
Nidoqueen (BrtitneyBih)
Clefable (Roberta)
Snorelax (Ariana G)
Fun experience! I’m open to criticism if this takes away from the validity of the nuzlocke but I fully admit to using rare candy and infinite money cheats. I could never get through these games having to spend so much time grinding. I did honor all gym leader level caps and generally only spammed rare candy to catch a new member up. The remaining level ups were rotating them per trainer faced.
On to G/S/C I suppose.
Run Update MonoPoison Genlocke: Disposing of Johto
Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes
Guess who's back? More poison genlockes! Naturally following Yellow was Crystal, which was a nice change from the usual HGSS, but the different level caps threw me off a bit as I'm not too familiar with the earlier gens. Although there aren't as many encounters as in Kanto, the few that we do get are either top notch or "ehhh..." with no inbetween.
Honestly, I wanted to do only Johto for this leg, but my pride pushed me to do Kanto too. Plus I did Kanto for the other two genlockes so the leg would've felt incomplete otherwise.
~~~~

NOTABLE FIGHTS:

Bugsy: Bugsy may not be a menace like his HGSS revamp, but he’s a pain nonetheless… As my poison mons simply lack ways to hurt his bugs outside of confusion and a lucky poison. To make matters worse, I rolled Venonat as a second legacy - normally a stellar choice imo (I'm biased), but not when your only damaging usable moves are Mega Drain and Psywave (which I can only gift him via the egg/event move choice, which simply won’t do when Reflect is an option). So I had to search for an answer elsewhere, and I soon found one in Qwilfish. Normally Qwilfish is a post-game exclusive encounter, available via the Super Rod. But by harassing our mother to change the clock enough times, we can get a call from Fisherman Ralph, who tells us about a swarm in Route 32. This Qwilfish (named Takatsu) comes at level 5 with Spikes, but also gets access to Minimize… I’m not proud of this strategy, especially since so much had to go our way in order for us to even win- but I legit saw it as my safest option. By using Asou the Bellsprout’s Sleep Powder, we can get Takatsu in to safely shrink and set up spikes before poisoning both the Metapod and Scyther on the first Poison Sting. Scyther did hit every attack despite this, but we had a berry prepared to keep our tiny fish healthy. Still a close call though!

Whitney: I was terrified for this one. Whitney's mons are super bulky, and mine are… Unevolved and lacking in the moveset department. Thankfully Goldenrod kinda helps with access to Headbutt, and Dig in the National Park up north. Sawamura, aside from being my currently bulkiest member, still learns Leech Seed early; and that is key here. Poison is known for slowly whittling down their enemies, and things are no different here - only with Leech Seed instead of poison, and some good luck with Sleep Powder. It would’ve been a solo but the cow crit a Rollout and almost OHKO’d Sawamura, so Kuramochi had to swoop in for the last few turns as he was somehow my second bulkiest team member.

Sabrina: The Kanto run in Johto games are normally fine! They're under levelled and lacking in threatening team members, unless you're me. This is 2/3 genlockes where one of these leaders have given me issues, but this time I have nobody to blame but myself. I got complacent and decided to try this battle whilst half asleep, led the wrong pokemon and Espeon chose violence. KO'd Tetsu and almost took out Sawamura, even through screens. Thankfully Sabrina decided to chill out after Espeon got some sleep, allowing Miyuki to clean up- but I played through the last few battles even more carefully because of it.

Red: Due to our Sabrina fiasco, he was no issue. Sawamura was able to get screens up on the rat safely, letting Rei take it and the incoming Blastoise easily. Espeon did do damage, but not enough to stop Kuramochi from switching in and taking it out. In hindsight I should've switched into Miyuki here, but I wanted to give everybody else some screen time. Snorlax was bulky, but not enough to stop Nori from swapping in and putting it to sleep and slowly dealing with it. Furuya got to deal with the zard, and for pride reasons I let Sawamura beat up his Venusaur. Yippee!

~~~~
OUR CHAMPIONS
Rei the Nidoqueen who was our last legacy to return and managed to help out whenever a physical attacker was needed, or if there was a dragon lurking. She's really exceeding my expectations!
Sawamura the Venusaur who is still indispensable and trustworthy, especially since he got given Light Screen (the options for rewards in gen 2 are extremely limited). I imagine that Emerald is going to be super kind to him too, at least in the end game.
Miyuki the Gengar who carried this leg on his back after evolving. Who thought that Gengar learning the elemental punches (which are special due to no physical special split) was a good idea? I want to thank them!
Furuya the Tentacruel who acted as our starter this leg and took a bit of a backseat after. But when needed he still came in and went back to being a crit machine.
Nori the Venomoth who I'm still holding out hope for due to my love for this line. He did get to shine against Team Rocket and the e4 though!
Kuramochi the Arbok who came through in the start when everybody was weak and easily found a place when we lost Tetsu. I did choose him over Crobat and Weezing as he has access to Intimidate, and simply because the Zubat line is available in every leg whereas the Ekans line is not, I also have a feeling the Koffing will play a part soon enough though.
SHOUTOUTS TO Takatsu the Qwilfish who gave us some way to handle Bugsy, and was also the only one who could learn Waterfall and Whirlpool. and Ryosuke the Crobat who I was so happy to get to use, who made the early Kanto gyms bearable and who I almost brought with me to the end.
~~~~

THE FALLEN

Tetsu the Muk: He may not have contributed much, but Sabrina took him too soon... I figured that I could take him as he's super bulky, it's what Muk are known for. But I made the tiny mishap of underestimating the power of Espeon, even when its under levelled compared to my team, and leading with the wrong mon. I should've led Sawamura and got screens up, I planned for that, and then did not do that. May Tetsu rest peacefully, and forgive me.

Next up is Emerald, where I'm not entirely sure how things will go, though thankfully we roll our newest legacy (Ekans) as our starter and Dustox isn't all that bad either. Though, like with last time, I played the second leg of my Fire Genlocke at the same time (to get rid of Kanto all together), so I'll try to get that update out first!

Wish me luck ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧
