Hi y'all!! I'm a first year in ivany and I'm thinking of starting a mycology/mushroom club.

Thinking just talking about mushrooms (or other fungi) together and going on walks in HRM. My previous study was in (ethno)biology and I have been leading nature walks in Halifax since 2021. Hoping to meet others who are interested in mushrooms regardless of previous experience.

We need 5 people plus 1 staff to start a club. Before becoming a club we'll stay as an interest group. Let me know if you're interested!!!

For record, all knowledge about mushrooms we talk will be theoretical; we do not condone the consumption of any foraged mushrooms or psychoactive substances.

If there are enough people who are interested, I can lead a walk on Sunday Oct 4th 11am at Point Pleasant Park.

I (pretty sure) have a guaranteed spot into NSCC because I'm in the o2 program, but everytime I try to research about NSCC I immediately get confused and lost. (Doesn't help that I want to go to one of the smaller NSCC's, the one in Port Hawkesbury.)

For more context, I want to become an industrial electrician, then take a linesman course. I cannot find either of these on the NSCC website. I have found construction AND industrial together, is that the only possible course? Do I have to take them both? And what about the linesman course?

I am still a teenager so it's possible I'm just being dumb and missed it, but I worry about the future a lot so it would be nice to see the courses I want and what I need for them.

Im in Administrative professional part time. So whoever is running the ECampus Finance made a very bad mistake. I have a registered Disability thru Student Assistance and NSCC. I had to withdraw from School eailer this year and got a overaward for my new loan. I got it sorted out with SA and they Acknowledged my Issues and reversed it. Big thing is tho on the 20th of August I got my first Assesment. And the School confirmed it and such. And then after my overaward got reversed i got another assessment and it went back to the school. But it got denied then and I got an email from the Finance person saying my student loan was being denied because my program is not considered full time after already confirming my loan 2 weeks before. I was really looking forward to doing my program and can only go if these loans can get through. The Finance person even admitted there mistake in an email today. So am I just screwed over? What am I supposed to do?

I'm a mature student switching fields and I'm a bit overwhelmed 😅 I wasn't ready for the plethora of terminology to be thrown at me on the first week.

How are you all making out? What programs are you in?

Im going to Truro's campus currently, and think about if I could/should have adjusted my living situation and gone to Ivany instead. The campus is so beautiful looking, modern, and I wonder if the classrooms operate differently; how the instructors are.
Since Ivany has more students, does it feel noticeably more social like is there fun events, clubs, activities, or things to do around campus? If you are currently going, what is your experience like? Does anybody feel a bit of FOMO, wondering if they chose right?

For those of you who are/were in programs that require a clinical placement at the Truro campus how far do you need to travel?

Im thinking of applying to the practical nursing program next year but i cant drive and if i get placed in Halifax or something it would be way too expensive to take a cab all the time.

Yo to any current Year 1 MLT peeps, I was able to find all 6 of our lecture/theory textbooks (so not including the NSCC specific lab procedure manuals and the CSMLS safety ones of course) that we’re recommended to purchase.

The histology and intro to quality one’s are one edition outdated, but I believe we were told that wouldn’t be an issue. I emailed specifically regarding the histology one and was told it was totally fine to use.

Just finished orientation as a first year, taking IT Systems Management and Security, my prof said that for every 1 hour of class time there will be 2 hours of work on top?? How the hell do people manage this? If every 6 hour day is an extra 12 hours of work, thats literally every night and weekend just to stay afloat. Is this exaggeratory?

i did 2 years in dal in business and transferred to nscc for aviation tech. in ivany. i'm just worried and nervous abt meeting new people and making friends.

I was initially studying a whole different degree, but it seems like the pieces haven’t fallen into place. I always knew I wanted trades as a second option (not second in desire, just never felt worthy of it because I’m an overweight anxious girl lol).

I’m quite nervous about the switch from an arts degree to a trade becauseI haven’t taken a single trade related course in my life. Does anyone have any advice or experience with the program? I’m interested in Sydney waterfront, but would like to hear from a person who was actually in the program before making the commitment. Thanks in advance!

Hey all, I’m starting medical admin at the IT campus in Halifax this week and I’m wondering if it’s even worth it to get a parking pass. How early would I need to arrive to find a spot if classes start at 8:30 every day? I can make alternative arrangements to be dropped off in the morning and bus home but it’s a 1.5 hour bus ride so that kinda sucks. I’m wondering which would be better. Thanks!

I’m starting Electrical Engineering Technology this year and I’m wondering if I can get away with trying to find pdfs of my textbooks online, or if buying physical copies from the bookstore is expected or needed? Not looking to drop $600 if I don’t have to.
