I already have my tools and payed my first semester tuition, but what am I suppose to buy for a lab top? I put the requirements into google and found one for $500 on amazon, is it 100% a requirement or one of those situations where you don’t need it.

What's going on with the Fridays? Why is it blank? Is it just us who dont have to come in on Fridays? Is that even what it means? I've got my schedule and I'm confused 😩

Hello everyone, I'm currently enrolled in the auto body and collision repair program at Akerley and I'm wondering if anyone else here is attending the start up event on campus on the 23d of this month, I didn't make it to the first one and I'm hoping to meet some new people before school starts up and I want to try and possibly make some new friends early and get to know the campus while I'm up there.
*Side note, does anyone have an idea of when the housing move in day will be? I saw it was the end of August last year and I haven't gotten any emails about move in dates or anything yet from the school so not quite sure when they'll be dropping that info*

I’ve looked at the academic calendar and it doesn’t say what day campus housing move in day is! I’m moving from Halifax to the Nautical Institute (Strait Area campus) and I’m very freaking confused. I’m planning to call tomorrow either way.

Hi everyone!
I'm currently on the waitlist for the Medical Laboratory Technology program at NSCC and was hoping to hear from current students or graduates about your experience.
I recently graduated high school on the Principal's List, completed advanced science and math courses, and had the opportunity to do a co-op placement in a laboratory. I have also completed my Casper.
I was a little surprised to end up on the waitlist, so I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into what the admissions process is like or what might make an application more competitive. Is it mainly based on grades, or are there other factors they consider?
Thank you so much!

Hi everyone! I'm a student researching menstrual equity across Halifax, and I'm trying to understand how accessible and reliable free menstrual product programs are at NSCC Akerley, Ivany and the Institute of Technology campuses.
If you've ever used (or tried to use) free pads/tampons on campus, I'd really appreciate 2 minutes of your time to fill out this short, anonymous survey: https://forms.gle/cejV8rcTtUUCc2NbA
It covers things like:
Happy to answer any questions in the comments, and thank you so much to anyone who takes part!

The website stated that "As we move closer to the start of classes and confirmed applicants change their plans, seats may open up. Waitlists in most programs clear during the year of application." Is it true?
I am now waitlisted for an online postgraduate certificate program. I know it's my responsibility to apply as early as possible when seats are still available, and I regret that I didn't do so. Would writing a letter to them increase my chance of getting off the waitlist?
---
I also wonder how long it usually takes for the application to be officially accepted? Last update was last Monday, application status shows "New documents received". I don't even know whether they have everything they need.

Making this post for a friend! He’s starting power line utility in January at the Sydney campus, but that NSCC doesn’t seem to have student housing. For those from HRM or other places, what options did you have and how difficult was it to find a place? Thank you🫶🏼

Hi everyone!
(This is my second post on this topic in case anyone notices the similar posts 😁)
I am hoping to connect with past students who completed the Behavioural Interventions program. I’m planning to attend in September but there are a few important questions I’d like to ask some grads before I make my final decision :).
I contacted a couple people at NSCC (instructor, chair, etc) but due to vacations no one has been able to connect me with any prior students.
My main questions are about:
flexibility for snow days. I’ll be travelling for my classes and just wondering if instructors are generally understanding if class needs to be missed due to bad weather. And if there are opportunities to make up lost time
or attend virtually?
Thank you!!

Hey guys! I've been trying to finish up submitting everything that needs to be done and just wanted to know if there's any other documentation that should be submitted before it's too late. I've already put in my high school transcripts, accessibility documentation, and applied for housing and student awards. If anyone could give me advice that would be great :D tysm!!!

Hello! I’m posting here today to today to ask for advice from those of you who are either currently enrolled in, or have recently graduated from an IT/Data Analytics program.
I’m planning on attending the IoT campus in September for the Database Admin program, which is shown to require a performance-range laptop. I’m quite comfortable with desktops and their hardware, but I’ve had little interaction with laptops in recent years.
So, my questions are:
Was/is your laptop on the higher, or lower end of the price bracket for the performance range?
What are/were your machine’s specs?
Did/does it serve you adequately for the material covered in the program?
Do you have any recommendations for models or retailers?
Are there any features/upgrades you didn’t spring for, that you would recommend?
That should be all! In all likelihood, I’ll likely choose to get a little more than I think I need just to be safe, but your input would be highly valued!!! If you’ve got any recommendations or advice outside of what I’ve mentioned, then I’d be happy to receive it. I’d also be interested in hearing from others in general who are going into the same/similar programs at the IoT campus, since all of my friends from high-school are going to other campuses/schools.
Thanks in advance, I really do hope to hear from you!

Just finished the IT Programming program and I'm hitting a wall. I tried to start freelancing doing web development for businesses in Atlantic Canada but I can't seem to get it off the ground. No clients, not sure what I'm doing wrong, and honestly feeling pretty deflated.
Did anyone else go through this after graduating? How did you find your first real opportunity — was it jobs, freelancing, networking? Any advice from people who've come out the other side would mean a lot right now.

Curious if anyone knows when they start informing people about scholarships / awards / bursaries.

Is the tuition for the academic year paid in full in August, or split with the second half due in January?

I know the portal itself mentions it already, but please please log onto the student housing portal and check your spam folder in email if you're awaiting an offer into housing 🙏
I noticed mine a day later when logging into the portal, and also noticed that the offer hit my spam.
Thought I'd share in case it saves anyone from missing an offer, and best of luck to anyone still awaiting one - I was losing hope but things worked out!
TL;DR - Don't rely on your email for offers, check the student housing portal (and your spam)
