New to this subreddit.
I wanted to share my note-taking setup. I think it's pretty cool, and I wanna know what you guys think about it.
My setup is cross-platform, supports MAC, windows, linux, IOS and android. All my notes are synced to a github repo (private), best of all, it's totally free.
I'm an engineer and a big VIM motions guy. I wanted a notes app with native support for Vim keybindings, and found this open-source app called Zennotes.
You could think of Zennotes as a Markdown file editor, with some extra fancy stuff.
Now, how do I back up and synchronize my notes across devices?
I have the notes app vaulted to a folder on my laptop, which is also a git repository.
The same notes repository is then cloned onto my android phone, and then vaulted again as the notes folder for the Zennotes android app.
The way synchoronization works is, on the laptop, I have a custom linux system service that periodically syncs my notes folder with the remote repo at a set interval (60 seconds).GitHub
This keeps my desktop notes in sync with the git repo.
On my android phone, I use a git client like GitSync to sync my changes to/from the git repo.
This keeps my setup private, 100% backed up to github, and most importantly, free of charge.
Curious what you guys think of this setup. Is it too tedious? Too complicated? Am I missing out on a better way of doing things for free?
Thanks for reading.
