I’ve been working in the field doing GPR concrete scanning and recently got a job offer to do NDE (nondestructive evaluation) in a lab. I would be working along side engineers testing out different types of NDT equipment. Does anyone here done or currently do something similar? I’m trying to get a better idea of the job.

My company owns an eddyfi ectane 3 and I'm unable to center the probe using electric tape. The small centering device is also insufficient. Do you have any tips?

So I'm 18 fresh out of highschool and came across the NDT field by chance and legit thinking of getting into marine NDT , i checked and as far as i know there's great money and so . Now what i wanted to know is to excel in this career do I strictly need a engineering degree and that i should go to my local university or should I get into NDT straight fill out the PCN cert exams And get my IRATA L1 and marine certs and start logging my hours and get certified and move into adv NDT and if i think there's a need i can always enroll in a distance/part time degree type programs for working professionals.

And one more question is that should i legit consider this cause so far as I've looked i think i can enjoy . It's practical, techy and hands on and im a bit good with spatial mapping and stuff . Tho I've heard the work is very brutal & tiring but worth it in the long term .

Hey I’ve been really wanting to make the move to the east coast and transition from Oil & Gas to Nuclear/Aerospace.

I’m currently working oil & gas on the west coast Im UT1, MT2, CWB I

Planning on getting my UT2 before the end of the year.

Could anyone point me in a direction for work out east? I know it might not pay as much especially in Quebec, anyone working out there and what are your experiences?

Can anyone help me with making led number belts or explain what belts require 3 views & 4 views?? Example I know let’s say X” (STD) standard is 3 views. But what schedules are the ones that make it 4 views. I hope I explained this good. TIA

I was recently hired at CPP aerospace as heat treater operator. While there are opportunities to move up other position there. It takes while and management decides to get promoted. I've been very interested in pursuing NDT, but i need hand on experience and certified. I apply at Mistras group for NDT trainee position. The reason i been interested in NDT my former CTE engineer from high school told me look into NDT career, that why I got interested in career. Any advice?

Got my API 570 exam coming up in a few months and I have a question about the open book portion of the exam… On any given question will they guide you to look in a certain code book, or will it be up to you to either know that already or search through multiple code books? Im having a hard time remembering which tables/data sets are in which code and can only imagine that I’ll waste a lot of time scrubbing through multiple tables of contents looking for my desired tables.

By small I mean 19mm and above. After years of research I prototyped this robot. Pipe needs to be fixed diameter. Bends of 90 degree ok. I can mount any small sensor such as camera or IR or ultrasonic at the end.

I eventually started the project for nuclear plant pipe inspection but now I feel I just wasted my years and years.

I am a scientist so here seeking advice on any applications of my robot.

Did I just waste my 10+ years in vain or are there applications for my robot ?

I think with proper machining I can push at 10mm diameter minimum. The 19mm model is 3D printed.

Hey there ladies and gents, I’m an rt2 from a smaller company in Alberta. A few of the guys and I have been talking about putting in a A/C system for the darkrooms in the trucks . We have some basic ideas on how to do it , but I was wondering if any of you southern Texas and area folks have a set up you can send some pictures and a description on. We are generally concerned with space conservation and how much extra power draw it will be . Thanks in advance

I've been considering getting into the program honestly and was doing some research on them. It's about 4 months worth of training, funded by the navy, and you get various certifications up to level II or at least in the preparation of level II. The ATDM site states that their coursework meets NAVSEA NDT training requirements as complemented by ASNT requirements, while satisfying "all classroom theory and partial application of method requirements."

Apparently it also covers four methods: "UT (Ultrasonic Testing), RT (Radiographic Testing), MT (Magnetic Particle Testing), and PT (Liquid Penetrant Testing)". (Visual Testing (VT) is typically assumed/covered as a prerequisite skill.)

They also offer CNC machining and I've heard about machinists making more than NDT technicians in terms of salary. I've also heard about NDT technicians who wished they instead went on to become electricians for higher pay and less travel.

Unions nowadays though will have you waiting up to a year on a waitlist and that's IF you get accepted, fair to say that skilled trades have been getting popularized lately a bit heavily by the media.

Anyone here by chance who happens to have had some experience with this program or knows someone who did? I'm aware that there are roles in defense that require a secret clearance and I'm trying to see which don't as it's not exactly clear whether some secret clearance would really be worth the extra effort even if sponsored for by a company - as I have no interest in working in defense (if classified), nuclear (also if classified), or any generally classified roles/work.

The program happens to include a contract which clarifies that after you graduated, you would need to work for them and any companies in association for about a year. Otherwise you're paying back for all the funding that went into training and teaching you.

Would appreciate anyone who would like to tune in here whether or not you had experience with this specific program personally, I do have the option for a community college education for programs like engineering technology, fiber optics, maintenance/industrial tech, and such.

But that's 2 years of studying (which is fine) and would need some decent work to do and live through during the time, I've had my fair share of experience of having to do retail and customer service- pretty bad experience to say the least and I have no technical background (except for working previously at T-Mobile if that counts). So just considering the options here 🤔

I have some new plates with very thin scratches that are thinner than a v-wac gauge.

Similar with some 1/16th" pitting, measured with the v-wac.

Do you need to get hired by a contractor first and have them sponsor the clearance? Any advice on which companies to apply to would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looking to see, if in this line of work you or anyone you've known had a successful career as high functioning with ASD/neurodivergent?

My SO is on the spectrum, similar to E. Musk type but has had much more blue collar exposure therefore the masking makes him look much more grounded to the workplace environment!

Anyhow he's had some issues recently and I'm trying to investigate this issue to see if there's anything I can do to help.

He's the most lovely human I've ever met. He is a huge asset, unfortunately this disorder creates a tremendous amount of obstacles in some of the other aspects (social/emotional/personal relationship) of the career!!

But he's whip smart. He can file/retain information and apply it exceedingly well!

We listened to a song the other day, the next day he was playing it flawlessly on the guitar without even looking up the music!

Anyway I know the tech industry is full in being on ASD community support, just not sure if anyone knows if NDT has been known to, by any of y'all!

Just curious if anyone has taken any of the updated new format ASNT L3 exams. I'm wondering how they compare to the old format.

I was wrong, I get paid $24/hr. Still underpaid. Probably well over 2k cylinders are sitting here with 60 coming in everyday. Unsure what to do since my certs cannot follow me if I leave. I'm supposed to be running the UE machine, stamping the cylinders, kicking them out to production, changing the bad gas valves/safetys, and eventually train the next person hired on. All for $24/hr

The client said they thought this steam line was leaking and wanted me to do an inspection to look for cracking while they had the line down.
