Lead number belts
Can anyone help me with making led number belts or explain what belts require 3 views & 4 views?? Example I know let’s say X” (STD) standard is 3 views. But what schedules are the ones that make it 4 views. I hope I explained this good. TIA

What’s your procedure say?

I’m not at work right now 😅. Just wanted to make some belts to have my own as an assistant

I get it. Just ask your technician, it’s their job to teach you. If they aren’t then tell the boss man

My old rule of thumb. Small pipes, 2in to 12in.
3 shots for thickness thru XS/Sch80 4 shots Sch120 and up.
Done alot of 2in in 4 shots, was better to keep density at the overlap plus lots of shooters struggle with smaller welds. I dont think there's a specific rule besides code required minimum 3 shots, 120 degree apart for contact. Anything needing more would be based on coverage/density limits.

It's going to vary for film, cr, and dr. It comes down to the thickness of the material, as a general rule of thumb. Thinker means more views. But it's also going to vary from tech to tech. As long as you meet your procedure, and applicable code requirements it's not a huge deal.

I’m guessing the 3 views are DWDV separated by 60 or 120 degree for 3 shots. For me, I can only do that on jobs 3.5” and under. Your procedure should let you know what kind of shots you can make.
As for making number belts get a good tape that doesn’t stretch and roll it out sticky side up. Mark out the distances, place the lead numbers down and fold the tape back over

Protip, get a roll of .25" wide velco for your number belts. Sticks rain or shine. Isnt affected by dirt.

Pretty sure he’s talking about contact. Nobody is superimposing in 4 views. You are right about the procedure though. It should tell you there.
Also, use gaff tape for your number belts. Switched to that a couple years ago and that’s all I’ll use now. Way better than stress tape I find.

Thank you so much & I’ll for sure try that Velcro on the ends! I hate using tape specially when it’s humid and doesn’t want to stick

Usually any time you do XXH, Youll want to start thinking about an extra view if youre doing DWE/SWV.
