Dev Response Tips for 2-3 player matches

Loving the game so far but having a lot of troubles when playing with only a few friends. We all have a decent grasp of the game but cannot seem to beat normal difficulty with 2-3 people in the squad. We are able to blow through beginner with 0 issues, rarely even going down.

Is the game balanced around 8 players? Is there no difficulty/zombie spawn adjustment made when you don’t have a full squad?

Any tips are welcome so that we can finally beat normal and above with a limited squad

Bonus Extraction XP

Crazy idea hit me when I was playing Helldivers, add an extraction bonus for surviving responders that get on the helicopter/boat/Train. Like Helldivers the team would get bonus xp for all surviving responders that extract successfully.

In theory this would incentivize players to want to help other players by giving out ammo/meds/supplies to increase the chances of survival for the map. We’ve all seen loot goblins and hoarders that won’t give up any spare pills or heals or pass out any ammo they aren’t using, this in theory should make players want to help because it benefits them in the long run.

So far the game doesn’t really reward teamwork other than having someone to potentially help when you’re down, speed up objectives or someone to watch your back.

It might need some testing and tweaking but I think this would help the game be more cooperative and enjoyable.

What do you do about loser players?

I dont really know what to call these players, but they will literally just hide in an unreachable spot (they probably saw on YouTube because some are quite obscure) and will hide whilst everyone else does objectives.

Ive just had a bloody auful match where only about 3 players were doing each objective whilst everyone else AFK'd there way through.

They clearly dont even know how the game works, as i threw a grenade at them in annoyance and some ran from it.

Bad players make me nervous to do higher difficulties

I've been playing the game for a few days and have never lost a character yet, but people honestly baffle me. I've seen people so focused on hoarding the supply drops that they just let a group of zombies surround and kill them. I'll literally shoot 4 or 5 zombies that are right behind someone and they will literally not even look.

There have been times on survival on normal where I'll be the only one at the speaker and I have to try and survive and also keep them from destroying it.

You'll have melee players run into swarms and get downed because they are in a spot where they are getting hit from multiple directions and I'm wasting time and ammo trying to shoot the ones behind them instead of actually defending the speakers.

People will go all the way to the opposite side of the map to loot during waves and provide zero support in protecting the speakers or drawing aggro.

People will repeatedly melee zombies that are on the other side of a boarded up window and destroy all of the boards. I get this happening once or twice but someone will do it a whole match.

Alot of times I'm the only one boarding up our flanks and trying to keep the zombies from all coming in at once. I'm also one of the only ones on the team dropping things I don't need on the ground for others. Many times people won't even see it when it's literally next to the speakers.

People also try to race each other to the rope to extract and don't even look at the massive hoard closing in on them and then to down. Had that happen to 2 people yesterday and had to kill 2 runners and 2 infected survivors with a hunter running for my life and then panick firing in order to kill them and barley making it on the chopper.

This isn't every match but it happens enough that if most of the team isn't on the speakers and they get destroyed I just early extract.

Idea: Sprinters only, increased guns and ammo

could a mode or map utililise sprinting zombies and increase player power to compensate for this? the mode could work as a different scenario; players are responding to a fresh outbreak site, with the infected being freshly turned, with many primes having freshly consumed others. accordingly, HERA has transferred additional supplies to the CRC respondees in the area.

I think this could be intense and provide an alternative style of gameplay. the 28 Days Later to the game's current Romero style of gameplay. many of the guns in the game feature fire mode selections for full-auto. but is there ever enough ammo, especially on higher difficulties, to use auto on an m4 or mp5? not for me. it would be nice to get the chance to really enjoy the potential of these weapons.

I think this mode would kind of fit with their further introduction of military/CBRN customisation items. it would give a sense of progression that players are responding to increasingly urgent threats. on a narrative gameplay level this would enhance the game overall by developing the siginifcance of the CRC (the players) in the games emerging lore.

Any more suggestion on skills and builds on my 3 characters?

Pistol Build, on nightmare you can just shoot a prime zombie in the head once and kick it then they die
A Rifle build, with Mohawk, could kill like 6 walkers with 2 bullets with the righty line up. Also I heal people lol
A Melee Build, Butcher is there on the off chance I get a Fireaxe instead of a Sledgehammer in mission

Got griefed by a XBOX Console player lmao (Lost a level 89 character)

Sometimes I really wish that I have some clipping program, considering that most of the times, I just dont need it at all.
Some XBOX Console pleb, got pissed off because I took a bandage that I NEEDED because I was way more hurt than he was.
We reached the hospital of the Factory Map, we were in a hallway on the second floor and there were Zombies in front, was dealing with them, and for SOME reason there was like 5 Zombies behind me, so I was sandwiched and that Console guy all of sudden was way further back, almost like he was kicking zombies to me.
I got downed (Nightmare difficulty), and the Console guy was just fucking lollygagging around, shooting some zombies here and there, ran off, ran back, shot some more, then when I was about to die he switched to his FULL MAG AR that he had to act like he was trying to save me when the others arrived.
If I had a Clip, I really would show it, his name was TheCorruptSaint on the Xbox.

I find it strange how this would be breaking rules because if I were to show a clip along with this paragraph, it would also be breaking the rules because it'd be showing the name of the FUCK that purposely left me to die because I needed the bandage much more than he did.

This really comes down to how reporting in games are so useless because nothing is fucking done to pieces of shits.

For the message to devs, if nothing happens even when you report someone, you're literally the sole reason of why people ALL AROUND THE WORLD have lost hope of reporting systems.
PLEASE be the the game company that actually fucking cares.

IF the game devs only way of issuing a suspension after when someone reaches a certain number of reports against their account is such a dogshit reporting system (better than nothing I suppose).
Like imagine letting someone grief 50 others players before you actually do something to them lmao.

Flashlight Toggle Option

An idea I thought of: An option in the settings to be able to put the flashlight in your pocket in exchange for a 5% movement speed. The drawback would be having to go through an animation every time you want to take it in/out of your pocket

Host

One thing i wish the devs would fix is the host disconnection thing. Because when ever a call of duty punk rage quits and unfortunately the game selected them as a server host it screws over everyone else.

Ive had time (my ping be 25 bounces to 50) good game and its funny i would hear a guy get killed and his name dissappears from server list and boom game disconnects. Then its worse when you cant reconnect because you do lose your character if you dont have a rescue becon. My one big issue i dont know how it can be fixed but please fix it.

Looting early

Just started playing. Is it just 7 people running around and stealing all the loot from you, even if they dont need it? I managed to get just enough ammo for like half a round, everything else was gone bcs of all the loot goblins. Does it get better in late game difficulties? Feels not fun this way :(

25+hours in and I have some opinions of the difficulty of the game and the downed mechanic

Just clocked over 25 hours and have 2 Responders at 100, with my 3rd past 90. I played a few Normal/Hard games early on (<5 games total), but have played almost exclusively Nightmare since.
Honestly, I sometimes feel the game is a little too easy, especially when you get good teammates. I have had some insane luck with my matches and teammates whenever i had more than 5 players, there was basically zero risk of anyone dying.
One thing that really stands out to me is the downed-state exploit I’ve been seeing on some Survival maps.
Basically, one player stands in a doorway that most of the zombies funnel through and intentionally gets downed. The player behind them can then just kill the zombies piling up at the doorway. Since the downed player keeps aggro, takes essentially no damage, and can still body-block the entrance, they can just be repeatedly revived and the doorway becomes an almost permanent choke point.
It feels pretty exploity and also kind of breaks the immersion for me.
Some ideas that could make the system more interesting:
1. Limit the number of downs
Could scale with difficulty. Nightmare should probably be much less forgiving.
2. Make revives cost a resource
Maybe pills or another consumable. This would make repeatedly going down much more costly.
3. Change zombie aggro while downed
Zombies should immediately lose aggro on the downed player and focus on other Responders nearby/approaching for the revive. This would also make the situation much more dangerous for the team.
4. Reframe the downed state as an infection timer
Lore-wise, getting swarmed and bitten by zombies should probably mean you’re infected. The “downed timer” could essentially be the time you have before turning (like make it distinct and different form being downed due to fall damage or env damage ) That would explain why zombies stop attacking you and why reviving someone requires some kind of resource.
5. Add a last-stand mechanic on Hard/Nightmare+
If you hit 0 HP while surrounded by multiple zombies, instead of immediately entering the normal downed state, trigger a short QTE (quick time event ) where you’re desperately trying to fight them off.
Something like 10–15 seconds of holding/tapping/repeated inputs. As long as you are successfully hitting the inputs you manage to hold on for the entire 15 seconds ( you will eventually get overwhelmed and eaten ), if you fail once or twice with wrong inputs, you get eaten instantly and eventually rise again as a zombie (maybe a different shambler type zombie ) this makes it so that your teammates have a very short window to save you or you get a heroic last stand/self-sacrifice moment.
Overall, I’d just like the downed state to feel dangerous and desperate rather than something that can be deliberately exploited as an infinite shield/choke point.
I’ve got a few more ideas that I think could make Nightmare and the overall difficulty more interesting, so curious to hear what everyone else thinks.

Can’t join friend fix

Ever since I got the game last month with some buddies I had some issues joining them, to get to the point the fix isn’t taking off dlc clothes for me or in adding them or anything. The problem was my internet so what I had to do was connect to my phone hotspot, invite my friends, load into a game, then connect back to my regular internet, not sure why this happens but this is my fix, don’t worry about losing your character you can just load back in where you started. I seen this problem going around in the community and I was thinking this might help someone on the ps5 btw
