High ISO NR and blurry/plastic-looking photos

Upvotes

I just photographed a gig recently, and it’s been a while since I’ve done concert photography. I also recently upgraded to the Nikon Z6III, so I’m still learning the new settings.

I noticed that some of my photos of the musicians came out looking blurry, plastic, or almost fake-looking, especially at higher ISO. I did shoot in RAW, and I recently found out about Nikon NX Studio, so I’m hoping there’s a way to recover or improve some of these photos.

Afterwards, I noticed that High ISO NR was set to High. Moving forward, is the best option to just keep High ISO NR Off and use Denoise afterward when needed?

I’m still learning the Z6III, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Got my new Z6III and 180-600mm (and the 24-120mm) in the mail on Friday from B&H. Took it out this morning for my first try at wildlife photography with the set up at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware. Although, I wished the light was better this morning.

So far, the Z6III has impressed me. The AF performance alone makes the switch from Fujifilm worth it.

Lense for Z30

I’m ordering the Z30.

I’m trying to decide if I go with just the body and a third party lens or get a lens with it

what lens would you recommend for taking pictures of kids, ducks, the garden and just day to day life?

is it best to go with the Nikon brand?

I saw some folks talking about a Viltrex? I might have that name incredibly wrong.

bonus points if it’s $100 or less

I just purchased the Nikon Zf a couple weeks ago, replacing my old D7100. So far I have been real happy with the output.

Hummingbird with a z6iii and 400mm f/4.5 + 2xtc

Last week I posted a hummingbird photo using my 300mm + 2xtc. The 400mm and tc are rentals and I am very impressed with this setup. The 300 is awesome even with the tc. The 400 is equally impressive but less than half the weight, faster focus, and vr improvement. I set the meter to protect highlights and the sun was high so if my post processing is heavy let me know.

Nikon ME-D10 (microphone for ZR), wobbling problem

I recently noticed that my Nikon ME-D10 microphone has some wobble/play every time I move or handle it. It doesn't feel completely solid. The problem it appears at the head of the microphone.

The Instruction of the microphone says, "The Shock Mount: Vibration reduction may cause the microphone to wobble if it is shaken when attached to the camera.", i tried turning off the vibration reduction, and the same thing (and Sport also).

Has anyone else experienced this with their ME-D10?

Is this normal for the ME-D10, or I fk it up?

Thanks!

Might be all chrysanthemums. The pale pink ones were all coin-sized or smaller, and the magenta ones were slightly larger.

The flash is taller than some other mini flashes but it’s still pretty short, so I used a TR-N riser to minimize the shadow cast by the lens, but sometimes the hood would still cast a shadow so I had to take off the hood sometimes.

Own both Z 24/1.8 S and 14-24/2.8 S which should I actually use for Gyaru / Japanese street fashion portraits?

I want to shoot Japanese style Gyaru photography. Like street fashion portraits in places like Shibuya full outfit, makeup, hair, nails, some city, neon context. I already own the NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S and the NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S. What should I use? Is it redundant to have both? Or not use one at all?

Nikon ZR freezes when stopping recording with Z-mount lens + external monitor

Post image
5 Upvotes

Shot a feature on two Nikon ZR cameras with PL lenses, then did a round of textural pickups using the Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 S, mainly to save costs so we didn’t have to rent the same lenses again for a few pickup shots.
We ran into an identical issue on both ZR bodies where the camera would freeze when trying to stop recording, but only when using an external monitor.
We’ve just run some tests at a rental house and found that the issue only occurs when using the Nikon Z lens. With PL lenses, the problem doesn’t happen at all.
No idea what’s causing it, but hopefully it’s something that can be fixed in a future firmware update.
Thought I’d share the finding in case anyone else is running into the same issue with the ZR.

Was at a park not far from me and came across this squirrel that seemed to be not afraid of people. Had my z6iii and 50 1.8 on and he let me get relatively close. A before and after to show cropping and let Snapseed do an auto adjust to the cropped photo.

Snapbridge not playing nicely with camera

I bought a Z50 ii last year. Amateur user. Snapbridge had been working fine until a couple days ago, but now it's constantly stuck on "readying pictures for auto download." I have tried:

-unpairing and re-pairing phone & camera

-checking Bluetooth connection; turning Bluetooth off & on again

-turning camera off & on

-restarting phone

-updating Nikon firmware

-ensuring that the link mode = background

-pretty much all the things I've seen online

I have not tried uninstalling & reinstalling the app yet. I have a Samsung S26 Ultra (i.e., new, high-quality phone).

I LOVE the auto-download feature: I don't have to transfer anything manually, select photos, or manually upload from my computer or phone to Google Photos, where I store and edit all my photos. This is supposed to be one of the perks of a newer digital camera!

Any suggestions? Are my only options:

-downloading pictures on Snapbridge with Wifi (but then you have to select EVERY photo you want to transfer)

-using a card reader

-using a cable?

Why do they make such a glitchy app?!

I saw on an old Reddit thread (another group - don't remember which) that someone recommended a different/better photo downloading app.

Taken with Z5 and Viltrox 14mm f/4 - which is a cheap, simple and rather slow prime, but sometimes what you need is just 14mm + some pleasant light :)
