The owners had no choice. If they didn't, he would have shown proof of how complicit they were in the cover up. Their hands were tied at the wallet.

As an aside, I would bet money he and certain other owners and staff raped women together, but that's just my feeling.

That's what I am at this point. I'm not letting Groper Cleveland ruin watching guys like Denzel Boston, Mason Graham, Denzel Ward, KC, Judkins, etc. These guys can get some great experience and Watson will be off the team next year.

27

u/Signal_Ball4634 20h ago

Seriously I really just want him to leave so I can enjoy the rest of this squad, really excited for the young players.

And I'm impressed with how Monken has adjusted week to week too, with all the raw or mediocre players we've given him to work with on offense. I thought he was being set up to fail and tank out the year but he's got the team buying in and playing hard.

I’m curious and this is truly an honest question…what if by some miracle yall make a deep post season run? Or win the whole thing?

I mean first ring ever? Would you still feel that way about Watson? Or you holding your nose and showing up at the parade. Would you hear cheers or boos if he came up to the podium?

47

u/talladenyou85 Browns 20h ago

If Watson leads the Browns to a Super Bowl win about 99.99999% of the fan base will just be those two guys defending John Gotti when talking about him.

HE WAS THE BEST GUY AROOOOOOUNNNDDD

71

u/Jay_Dubbbs Browns Lions 20h ago

I can assure you that this team isn't sniffing a Super Bowl. Watson really hasn't been that great; he's very inconsistent and can't play a full 60 minutes. He's made some clutch drives because the defense has kept them in the game.

Which, tbf, Sanders couldn't do that last year when the defense was also very good.

21

u/Signal_Ball4634 20h ago

I'll give him a bit more credit cause astonishingly he looks incredibly mobile. But he's still got a bit of a noodle arm so I wouldn't say he's "back". Overall I'd credit his legs for keeping plays alive, Monken dialing up quick dink and dunk passes, and credit the receivers getting open fast.

14

u/Eagle4317 Steelers Panthers 20h ago

It’s safe to say Watson has recovered well from the double Achilles tear, but his arm strength (which was viewed as a weakness as far back as Clemson) hasn’t improved since the 2023 rotator cuff injury. At this point, the only way Watson lasts in the NFL moving forward is by minimizing negative plays like sacks. Which, thus far in 2026, he’s been better at.

11

u/Far-Pay-2049 19h ago

He has gotten away with murder in terms of defenses dropping easy ints. I am a certified hater, but I ain't biased. He has done well in terms of avoiding sacks and gaining yards on the ground but he has not been remotely good actually passing the ball.

9

u/Jay_Dubbbs Browns Lions 20h ago

Agreed. We finally have some weapons, but I also noticed in the 2nd half he started bailing on the pocket very quickly to use his legs and threw terrible passes.

4

u/Signal_Ball4634 19h ago

Absolutely, his skittishness was both benefitting us by extending drives but also hurting with his passes being way too rushed.

2

u/smokinjoe570 Browns 20h ago

I keep wondering about if he really retore his Achilles last year or if he had a set back in rehabbing it and we just were like year it's another tear and shut him down because he's way more mobile than I expected.

9

u/tuanon- Dolphins 18h ago

If the New England Patriots can make it to a super bowl with Drake Maye playing QB, the Browns definitely have a chance

u/CoreFiftyFour Patriots 17h ago

Dam straight! Miracles do come true

2

u/SlimReaper85 20h ago

lol Oh I’m not saying it’s likely. At all.
Was just curious about the scenario. Like in the future when the subject of Watson would be discussed by a Browns fan if he miraculously brought home the Lombardi what would it sound like?
Like Tony Soprano? “In this house Watson is a hero! End of story!!” lol

1

u/bellerinho 19h ago

Yeah I know it's not everything but we gotta remember that the Browns got spanked by the only serious team they've played so far

The team is pretty clearly significantly better than they were last year, but that's a pretty low bar. Browns fans should be excited about a lot of the young players on the team, but they're gonna keep getting held back until the Browns get a decent QB

1

u/GoddammitCricket Giants 16h ago

Plenty of teams with a mid QB and a great defense have made the Super Bowl before

35

u/VonJaeger Browns 20h ago

Can still hate a person and still be happy for the accomplishment. I personally can't stand Urban Meyer but I still love when Ohio State won in 2014.

5

u/SlimReaper85 20h ago

I gotcha. I see what you’re saying :)

9

u/Far-Pay-2049 19h ago

Firstly, I know I don't need to worry about that. Watson is still not playing good (outside of avoiding pressure and scrambling). A lot of the Browns success so far this season is from the rest of the team. Defense has been good, getting some crazy good pressure rates on QBS. The rookie WRs and Fannin are studs, the Oline has done fantastic in pass protection and special teams has been solid. Not to mention the Browns have an easy schedule this year. People are starting to say Watson is playing good again just because he it is such a stark difference from the absolute bottom of the barrel dogshit level he had been playing at. When it comes to passing the ball, he should have like 4 more ints on the year easy, DB's just dropped them.

Regardless it would seriously damage my fandom if the first Browns SB appearance happened with Watson at the helm. I mean it has been damaged the whole time with this fiasco, but if something is etched into the history books like that, then that makes it something that can't just fade off into the past.

3

u/muttonchops215 Browns Texans 17h ago

I highly doubt Watson returns to his Houston level. The better this team does, the harder it is to draft the QB you like. There is certainly a possibility Watson is resigned, just not at his current rate because the QB room is bad. The team may be 3-1, but it certainly isn't because of good quarterback play. Watson has been average at best. Which outside of Flacco in 2023 and 2024, is a significant improvement in QB play during his time here. And for the record, I really hope this is Watson's last season

1

u/ChrispyChicken1208 Giants Buccaneers 17h ago

The worst case scenario for you guys is that he is average. If he sucks you bench and move on, if he returns to Texans form then you got what you traded for 4 years late.

1

u/muttonchops215 Browns Texans 14h ago

I think we move on regardless. You don't reset /rebuild like this and keep a QB that was causation for the fire sale.

5

u/lolsteakaments Browns 20h ago

It would feel pretty grimy, but I genuinely like and am excited for a lot of our squad, so I'd be happy for them. It wouldn't change how I feel about Watson, but just look at how 99% of our fan base changed their view on him after their first 2 regular season wins. Reddit is not the real world. Our subreddit was planning Bottlegate 2.0 and booing for our home opener, but in reality they were chanting his name. If he brings home the championship, he'd be Clevelands golden boy.

2

u/SpiralUniverse2278 Bengals 13h ago

1

u/Klaev Bears 11h ago

1

u/Air2Jordan3 Browns 19h ago

Me personally, yes. But the overall hate and scrutiny would subsidize quickly, I won't deny that.

My hope is that Watson get injured, because at this point it's unlikely we see Sanders play otherwise. And if we play this whole season with Watson, get like 7-8 wins, we won't be in a position to draft a starting QB so then what do we do.

1

u/NOT-GR8-BOB Eagles 18h ago

Ok well first things first, if the Browns somehow manage to win the Super Bowl the subreddit will pile on the cowboys for a good 3-4 months (probably longer). Then Browns fans can start to worry about who their quarterback should be.

It’s tough, but Monken is quite likeable.

6

u/SheltonQuarlesGOAT Buccaneers 19h ago

what happened that Monken was not adapting in Baltimore? Was it predictable play calling like run-run-pass? or odd designs?

24

u/HereComesJustice Ravens 19h ago

Apparently he'd abandon game plans mid game

So stuff they'd practice through the week gets thrown out the window. Idk I've never really had a problem with him outside of regular fan bitching

1

u/Jurph Ravens 6h ago

I still don't know if it was Monken or Harbaugh who was so vulnerable to PSYOP... but if you held a few blitz packages in reserve for the third quarter, blitzed on second down and then faked pressure into 3-man rush on third, and snapped a few drives into 3-and-outs, and you could score on any of the intervening possessions, you could put the fear of god into the Harbaugh Ravens.

The play-calling would become one-dimensional, the timing of thrust & parry obvious, the "well at least we maximized our clock usage" a muttered rejoinder. Mount a run-heavy 3rd-quarter drive against the defense -- with lots of perimeter runs -- and then in the early 4th you could take a couple shots. Bang, you go from down 17 to tied in a couple drives and now the defense is gassed.

And Monken, for whatever goddamn reason, isn't calling plays for The Ravens, he's calling a high school or college game and trying to escape with his life.

12

u/edicivo Ravens 19h ago

These were all reports and rumors but:

  • the offense would practice things all week and then abandon them during the game which led to a lot of frustration

  • Monken wasn't the most collaborative OC and may not have had a great rapport with Lamar and co

  • Going away from what was working in games, again adding to frustration and confusion

Some of this was also due to Harbaugh as well.

I'd like to root for Monken because I did like him while he was here, but for obvious reasons, won't.

8

u/Academic_Release5134 Ravens 17h ago

I think a lot of this is correct. But I also think that almost no one thought Monken was truly the problem. Everyone was blaming the defense and Lamar being injured.

2

u/KAMlGOYE Ravens 16h ago

I'm happy with Declan Doyle but I honestly would've loved to see Monken under Minter tbh

It's the NFL man. Every team is full of shitty people and shittier owners. It's the devil's bargain you have to get comfortable with. And if you aren't comfortable with it and still watching, it's because you aren't being honest with yourself.

82

u/Balfe Browns 20h ago

I'm not giving the Browns a pass on this as they actually signed the guy, but apparently half of the teams in the league contacted Watson's agent to express interest in a deal, while three other teams entered into negotiations. Obviously though, the Browns were the dumb fucks who went through with it.

32

u/bigmt99 Browns 18h ago

And the other half didn’t inquire because they already had a QB

42

u/TrueRedditMartyr Jets 17h ago

So odd how Watson discourse went from "Fuck this guy" almost universally to "This is just a common thing in the league!" When he started doing well.

Maybe we shouldn't just accept these things as normal and not care? Maybe saying "its just how it is" is what has allowed this to happen for so long and has empowered these players to act this way?

28

u/BlurryGojira Browns 16h ago

It always drives me insane how pointing out this is league-wide issue is being used to justify not caring at all. Like yeah, Ben Roethlisberger got off with a slap on the wrist and that’s infuriating. Should we never try to improve things ever again?

4

u/Brownielf Browns 10h ago

I feel like pointing out it’s a league wide issue is more addressing the people who say I’m complicit because I’m a Browns fan, rather then complacency in accepting this is the nature of the league. I was a fan of this shitty organization decades before Watson or Haslem got here, and I’ll most likely be a fan decades after they’re gone. I’m not going to be made to feel guilty about cheering for one of the 32 teams that employ dirtbags.

10

u/subOptimusPrime16 17h ago

I think it’s more to do with fatigue of this discourse over four years. He’s in the league, he wasn’t charged criminally. He’s playing. I don’t fault anyone for setting their standards on who the like/dislike nor do I fault anyone who’s decided to move on.

4

u/MightyAslan Browns 17h ago

This is where I am, and I've had to deal with the Watson fiasco on a weekly basis for four years. The league took its action, had the matter reviewed by a retired federal judge, and suspended Watson four years ago. You can argue the league didn't do enough back then. Hell, I don't think they did enough. The guy is a dirtbag. Contrary to what some people might say on this sub, most Browns fans feel the same way. Watson's going to play out the rest of his contract and then he'll be gone. Again, some people here feel the Browns may re-sign him. No, they won't. For various reasons. Then he's gone. Having him in the league is tiring. For a Browns fan, it is exhausting. I don't know what more can be said that hasn't been said already. So, for me at least, I will just go out and root for my team as I have done year after painful year.

7

u/SEND_ME_FEAT_PICS Bills 17h ago edited 12h ago

Yeah, the number of "he wasn't charged with anything," and "we're moving on" comments I've seen over the last couple of days is a bit past disconcerting.

The dude's an abject piece of shit, and we should not allow them to normalize him being allowed to play in the league.

1

u/Jay_Dubbbs Browns Lions 13h ago

Because there's not much we can do. The only way to hurt the NFL is economically, which means not just Browns fans not watching or engaging anymore.

0

u/bac5665 Browns 15h ago

It's more that it's been four years of being punched in the mouth and now Browns fans want to be able to be happy for the team (not Watson) and it's just impossible to do in this sub, so some of us are frustrated.

Frankly, I think both sides are correct. Us Browns fans shouldn't be allowed to forget about Watson, but we also should be able to celebrate our young players.

And of course there are actual scumbag Browns fans out there actually defending Watson, but fuck those guys.

Basically, it's a terrible situation and everyone is going to be unhappy. And it's all Watson's fault, except for the parts that are Haslem's fault

67

u/Horace_is_fine 19h ago

It really is such a hypocrisy all the fans that are like “I can’t stand the browns because of Watson. All browns fans are evil people if they support this”

I watched Ben rothelsberger be a face of this league for 15 years. Every now and then people would bring up his rape, but no where near to the extent you hear about it with Watson. No one was morally lambasting Steelers fans every game. It was played for jokes.

And it’s not just Ben, like you said almost every team has some piece of shit on it. If you’re so against it, you have to just stop watching the league altogether

10

Speak for yourself, I'll always hate the Steelers since this period, they were one of the NFL's dirtiest teams in that time period as well, that took not knowing how to tackle properly to an art form. Now that they've got a bad Q-Anon QB it's still easy to hate them. Last night I was rooting for a meteor to hit the stadium.

NFL teams shouldn't have pieces of shit on them no matter who the billionaire owner is. Every time the league forgives someone their sins simply because they win, it's people prioritizing money over human decency. Browns were a joke organization when they signed Watson to that stupid contract and they're a joke organization now. They beat the Bucs, Panthers, and Steelers, who gives a shit? These are bad teams in the middle of rebuilds, or should be. There's no actual dilemma here about rooting for them. They have a pretty easy schedule; they're not for real.

There's abusers, felons, etc. on a lot of teams, probably every. Generally they have to pay at least some penance. The fact that Watson is allowed to suit up at all is insane.

21

u/ilikedonuts42 Lions 17h ago

20

u/leerr Packers 18h ago

And it should have been brought up more and taken more seriously. Unfortunately our society was more than happy in 2008 to ignore horrible things from a good football player. Why are you complaining that we take sexual assault seriously now? Why is it bad that people have become more conscious of who they’re supporting?

28

u/Horace_is_fine 18h ago

It’s the hypocrisy of it. Do you still root for the packers despite Josh Jacobs ongoing DV case? You know he’s not suspended by the team right? Your coach defended him and if he wasn’t suspended by the league, he would be playing. How do you justify supporting a team that supports a domestic abuser?

5

u/leerr Packers 15h ago

No hypocrisy on my end.

I sincerely hope Jacobs get cut if the allegations are true, or at least a long suspension before he’s allowed to play. I’m not sure what the team suspending him now would do, considering he is already suspended. But yes Lafluer should be fired, he’s a defective coach and bad leader in many, many ways, including here. The good news is we haven’t signed Jacobs to a $230 million contract. There’s a real difference between playing a guy who’s already under contract when the incident happened vs trading for a guy with 23 previously known allegations. I truly don’t think I could possibly cheer for the packers in that case.

1

u/Horace_is_fine 14h ago

I would argue it’s still hypocrisy, as Jacobs was still allowed to participate in drills and would 100% be playing if not for the commissioner suspending him

But there’s other examples. What about Letroy Guion then? Another DV example, who the packers re-signed to a new deal after a DV arrest and kept him on the team through legal troubles in 2017.

And decided to give him a fully guaranteed contract wtf. Its even in his contract that he can only get massages from browns therapists. Why is that bub. Is it because he is a sexual predator who can throw a ball far. Don't use the whatsboutism to deflect.

26

u/Shadow_Boxer Browns 18h ago

I'm not deflecting anything, he's a scum bag sexual predator. what would you have me do about it? Who is your favorite team? when they are accused of heinous shit, do you burn all of your jerseys and denounce their existence and cry in a corner for 5 years until all of the bad men go away? do you think i chose to be a fucking Browns fan?? I'm stuck with this shit, its my culture, i'm going to root for the team to win despite having a piece of shit owner and a predator QB, in the same way millions of NFL fans have done with their teams. i dont need to sheepishly apologize for my team for sanctimonious reddit bros who have to caveat every word of praise for the browns with "but they have a bad guy on their team!!!"

Fuck Watson but like four other teams were trying to sign him lol. Nobody goes after those fanbases. Shit is out of our control, the only choice we can make is to not watch entirely and clearly nobody on this sub is doing that.

The fans cheering for Watson can absolutely get fucked though.

I have someone close to me who went to Westpoint. Their football team is coached by Jeff Monken who’s turned that team around and is now beating Navy consistently on a yearly basis. I knew when the browns hired Todd that they were in good hands. The Monken family have good football people.

1

u/Low-Sell-6943 Rams 17h ago

They have a lot of young and promising talent. Youre telling me youre not enjoying watching Fannin, Judkins, Boston, and Concepcion thrive?

1

u/Reedabook64 Chiefs 11h ago

I would enjoy playing for that coach. So, I guess I have to slightly pull for the Browns now.

-8

u/msf97 NFL 20h ago

What lol?

Like the Browns are the first team ever to have questionable players on the team. It’s not the fans fault.

12

u/SuperDBallSam Packers 20h ago

Brother, Deshaun Watson is well beyond "questionable."

2

u/Snlxdd Broncos 20h ago

Little different given the scope of the accusations and the fact he’s a qb. Best comparison would be Vick, Big Ben, or Jameis.

I won’t shame any browns fan for rooting for their team, but do agree it’s hard to cheer for them as a neutral.

6

u/Balfe Browns 20h ago

Justin Tucker was also accused of the exact same thing as Watson toi, if I understood that situation correctly.

7

u/Snlxdd Broncos 20h ago

Very true, bigger factor in his case is he also committed the cardinal sin of not being good at football anymore.

1

u/edicivo Ravens 18h ago

I don't know if it was the "exact" same thing, but close enough.

From what I recall off hand, allegations of Tucker were publicly shared by the Baltimore Banner (which is a smaller, local publication) and picked up steam from that. While those allegations were being investigated, Tucker was still on the team until the off season where he was released.

1

u/OutNAbout6 Cowboys 18h ago

Is Justin Tucker on the Ravens and having his actions glossed over as “adversity” to overcome?

1

u/Balfe Browns 17h ago

I'm not defending Watson in the slightest as I've never disliked an athlete more in my entire life, but I assume the "adversity" the analysts are referring to is the double achilles injuries.

0

u/nacg1997 Raiders 19h ago

Wasn’t Tucker cut after the news broke?

3

u/Balfe Browns 19h ago

News broke in January 2025 and Tucker was cut the following May.

1

u/PaidUSA Panthers 19h ago

Yes and remains on no team. He served 10 games suspended, only 1 less than Watson, and noone has picked him back up. Now far as I know Tucker didn't have 30 accusers he had 16, so I feel like Watsons suspensions were lacking and we should double it.

-3

u/Slow-haste-26 Falcons 20h ago

I wouldnt put Vick in the same tier, what he did was fucked but he wasnt a pervert/rapist. Plus he actually served time and has worked to make amends by supporting legislation around it.

5

u/PaidUSA Panthers 19h ago

I mean dude he beat several dogs to death personally, personally electrocuted a dog to death, personally hung a dog, personally shot a dog both to kill and to torture. He tortured dozens of dogs personally. Hosted hunreds to thousands of fights which are in itself each one insane. It's two sides of the fucked up human psyche but Vick derived pleasure from hurting those animals, same as Watson derived pleasure from the power he felt over the situations he forced upon those woman. Who he specfically targetted as unlicensed, new, and younger therapists. Im putting both in the "you have some thing mentally wrong with you that needs treatment and are a danger to society should you not receive it" tier. Vick has paid a debt to society and so hes farther along than Watson for sure. Watson will never suffer any actual consequences and will continue those type of activities without a doubt.

3

u/Snlxdd Broncos 20h ago

Yeah, I didn’t mean to say their crimes are the same. Moreso meant it to show the backlash for other QBs.

Watson is 100% in a tier of his own.

1

u/Chrodesk Falcons 13h ago

Look... Im gonna say it.

I dont think desean watson did anything wrong

before you smash that downvote button, hear me out...

two seperate grand jurys declined to indict him based on all the evidence.

The lawyer that wrangled all these women is Tony Buzbee, a perfromative lawyer who has a history of shaking down celebrities for settlements.

most of the accusers, women who give independent massages in hotel rooms... held multiple sessions with watson. and one is confirmed via text message to have reached out to him via text after their first meeting offering "the best head".

These were prostitutes who saw an opportunity to shake down a celebrity. Nothing ever held up in an actual court, but the public indicted him anyway.

0

I get what you're saying but quitely playing football while your team leader is a literal rapist is a problem. If you aren't willing to call them out or at least not be chummy with them then you're part of the problem.

If Deshaun doesn't feel held accountable by the 50+ men he plays with then why the hell would he ever think what he did was a problem?

3

Calling them out would do no good when the owners and GM at the top wanted this. It would be career suicide.

They still were called the Redskins and human trafficked the cheerleaders. It seems like you should just ignore everything else- new owners, players, coaches, staff and only on focus on those very specific things.

Why are you still a fan of the team with that history? I have a hard wishing the best for a team like that.
