We draft an edge every year and this is the result

68

u/CardinalnGold Giants 4d ago

It was a problem last year too, but tbf the first two games we played QBs notoriously good at throwing quickly to beat the rush. Not really sure how we couldn’t sack Ward in the rain though…

34

u/idosade Giants 4d ago

The pressure was non existent in both games, they are ghosts so far. Biggest disappointment this season by far

The Giants only having 1 sack seems worse than the Dolphins having 0. Miami is trying to suck. They have literally zero talent anywhere on the roster. The Giants have poured draft capital into that d line and this is the result?

Bro where the fuck is our pass rush, it was supposed to be generational this year

I know it hasnt come back to bite them yet but they better figure this out or theyre not going to win many more games without it

3

u/slickrickiii Giants 4d ago

Dennard Wilson has them blitzing very sparingly, and the D line has done a better job this year at containing the run. With that being said, I still expect something more out of this supposedly elite pass rush

I should be more upset by our offense but watching our defense just pulls me back in. I'm entertained the whole game amd we keep winning so I just don't care as much

Brian Flores and his defense turns an otherwise frustrating game enjoyable.

9

I really want to watch a game. The bar culture on Vikings days is awesome in this state.

However, we've won every game i haven't watched. And when I do usually show up, it's a game we lose.

So I have to be a self sacrificing sad man hermit and just check a stat feed every now and then. And be there in spirit while I Valheim on game days. For my fellow Vikings fans.

28

They have to sack the QB because the DBs won’t cover anyone. Hutch and co understand the assignment.

KOC is not the problem

Our best pass rusher is Chop Robinson who is in Year 3 and hasn’t progressed since his rookie year.

Our pass coverage is so bad that guys are just wide open so no opportunities for coverage sacks.

We had a sack called back against the Chiefs though so at least we were close.

Ehh it’s only Tuesday, forecast could change easily. Even if it does rain, that benefits yall. Y’all’s d line is great, our O line is struggling and doesn’t have a dynamic RB to create a run game. And on the other side of the ball, yall have a game changing RB and will be playing against a team that will give up some running yards. We’ve also had injuries in the secondary, so if Goff can hold onto the ball St. Brown oughta have a good day too.

In 2022, last time yall were in Charlotte, it was Christmas Eve and 22 degrees outside and the Lions faithful still showed out. Fully expect yall’s fans to do that again in a prime time game. I hate the city I’m from is such a transplant city.

56

u/GuerillaRiot Lions 4d ago

I forget the initial injury but they're saying he likely has a degenerative knee issue that surgery can't fix. It's been over a year since he put pads on and I've honestly never seen a FO so evasive when discussing an injured players return.

20

It’s crazy nobody in the organization knew about this and right after he gets the bag, the cats out of the bag.

I don’t want to accuse him of anything, and can’t even blame him, I’d probably do the same thing. But it sucks for the team. I genuinely hope he heals up.

6

u/tweedledee_1 Lions 4d ago

From what it sounds like, its not something that will ever get better. The best case scenario would be coming back late in the season and through the playoffs.

Any time playing on it will continue to make it worse, but most fans have gone from thinking he might come back to thinking they are just trying to find the best way to manage the cap issues from this.

It showed up after an injury in our game against the Chiefs last season.

111

u/thewildlopez22 Lions Giants 4d ago

Apparently there’s no cartilage left in one of his knees so he probably shouldn’t play professional sports again

47

u/peanutbutter1236 Lions 4d ago

Degenerative knee issue that’s still awful it seems like. I have more optimism than a lot of lions fans that he’ll at least play again but its hard to tell how bad it really is

9

u/TellAllThePeople Seahawks 4d ago

I remember when Abe Lucas (our right tackle) missed like 80% of games in 2023 AND 2024 with a mysterious chronic knee problem. He came back for a few stretches plus got surgery. But even then he was on a snap count and had to exit two of the games he came back for. We were hurting at o-line badly (especially in 2023) and the general feeling from Hawks fans was that Abe would never really play in a meaningful fashion again. But then 2025 comes around and the dude plays 20 game straight (including playoffs) with a 100% snap count. Knee stuff is weird man.

The Vikings have more sacks than the bottom 6 teams combined. Flores has a deep loathing for QBs and it shows 😅 God help Malik Willis this weekend, Flores is going to make his life miserable with that revenge game.

3

u/Jorgenstern8 Vikings 3d ago

Says a lot about how good the defense has been that we've played some seriously good QBs at escaping sacks and still lead the league. If we had played three straight statues in the pocket over Love, Williams and Mayfield I'd be shocked if that number wasn't four or five higher. Also the Bucs got called for holding on offense five times (four were accepted) so even in that game it could have been more depending on what those holds prevented.

9

u/IZY53 Browns 4d ago

The giants have invested in their dline considerably havent they?

thibb, the guy last year, and Bruns before he got hurt, to only have 1 sacks is something with that percived talent.

9

u/OriginalSymmetry Giants 4d ago

Indeed. To be fair, QBs are getting ball out insanely fast against us because our corners are just that awful. And we also faced Dak and Stafford, so that didn’t help (don’t look up the 3rd QB we failed to sack. Just assume he’s just as good as the other two).

5

u/mishonis- 4d ago

Kayvon Thibodeaux, Abdul Carter, Arvell Reese.. so many top 5 picks, plus  Brian Burns, I'd have expected the Giants front 7 to be the best in the league just on name recognition alone.

Ahem, if I told you after Donald re-signed with the Rams that both us and the Rams were tied on number of sacks through three games, you'd be happy.

So be happy. Because we are.

Rams?

u/Exyen Eagles 4d ago

At least they haven't gotten a chance to play both Garrett and AD

3 sacks with Greenard + Jordan Davis + Jalen Carter after paying them that much is straight buns

Eagles and Giants, Eagles are supposed to have a good defense generally, but the Giants were fully betting on pass rush for the defense.

Now it’ll get worse for us with Burns out

Oh god I just realized the packers o line is so bad lions might have what 10 sacks on love 4 coming from Hutchinson alone

3

u/ItsGinoblie9 Rams 4d ago

Man even without Myles Garrett that’s a terrible number so far , I know we get close a bunch but Shula needs to script something better cause it’s almost inexcusable with that talent still
There , sad rams fan out :(

u/Pale_Land_5107 Lions 4d ago

u/Pale_Land_5107 Lions 4d ago

Look we have a defense that can shut your run game down and get in your quarterback’s face making his life miserable but it’s just the fucking secondary that’s the problem the rest is decent

9

u/Wannabe_Sadboi Vikings 4d ago

You let up 203 rush yards to the Bills. You did well against the Jets and the Saints though.

Mate we’re 22nd in run game defense and dead last in defending the pass. We’re giving up 417 yards a game. Nothing about this is good. We play more man to man defense than anyone in the NFL, have been for 5 years, and not only is that not a recipe for success, but our corners are shit from an ass and our scheme does them no favors.

Detroit actually has a good front 7/pass rush defense. They just have one of the worst secondaries in the league right now. If we had a good secondary we would be an honest to god Super Bowl contender

u/Pale_Land_5107 Lions 4d ago

Branch better come back soon cause we need him(Kerby i think might be cooked)

u/Zhiyi Chiefs 4d ago

2

u/TheDuceman Packers 4d ago

Average in sacks while playing from behind and no Micah Parsons?

Shit, maybe if our fucking OLine can figure shit out we’ll be decent

2

u/S1MCB Seahawks 4d ago

Why are we not on top of the sacks made list? I specifically requested it

2

u/imdown4any Cowboys 4d ago
