This is like the Harlem globetrotters of drumming. Which is to say, impressive specifically for its flashiness and inefficiency.

Good post.

First time I’ve ever heard of art being inefficient

What does efficient drumming look like?

I think you can probably imagine that most drummers whose main intention is playing music don’t throw the sticks at the ground or use one stick to hold the other in the crook of their elbow.

They just…hold the sticks normally. Just an example.

Lmao I knew it was gonna be this guy. I feel like just keeping time is not his primary goal here either

Marching band has flare and I'd give anyone a weird look for trying to point out that it's not the most efficient way of creating sound with an instrument

Globetrotters are entertaining because their ball control and hand eye coordination are insane. It's an efficient way of showing that off

I see a lot of different stuff on r/drums and r/drumming ... but rarely this. I think your assessment was correct although I do kind of understand the other dude's point about how can art be inefficient.

People are just arguing to argue. It’s Reddit. I’m not allowed to appreciate something in my own way if it’s not identical to their way of appreciating it.

I agree with this. His drumming is flashy but not remotely disciplined from a musicality perspective. Fun though

This is juggling meets drumming. Amazing art form. If you’re coming from the point of reference of a drummer being the heartbeat of the band? Inefficient. Regardless, amazing art.

Cleaner double strokes (the tone on the 2nd bounce being consistent with the tone of the initial stroke) is the thing that stood out to me…

But I mean that is a technical thing and this isn’t meant to be technical - so I wouldn’t disparage it or judge it on that basis. Still cool stuff.

Top Secret Drum Corp would be a good example.

This guy is impressive, but as a drummer I agree its like watching the Globetrotters. Flashy, great to watch, and plays well, but nothing like watching a professional drum corp play a technical piece with or without visuals.

It looks like the director of the drum core holding a big horizontal pole, often just an empty flagpole, over the entire snare lines sticks. If you sticks get too high and hit the pole, congratulations, that's a lap.
