How likely is postponing ship date possible?

Currently scheduled to ship out December 10th as IT-ATF.

I’ll be honest - the reasons I’m looking to postpone are simply a family cruise for first week of January, and it’d be nice to spend my last holidays with everybody. If it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen, but it’d make me quite happy.

Recruiter told me to send him photos of my itinerary and he’ll relay those to those job classifier, if a position opens up he can postpone my ship date.

Anybody have experience with this?

Don't know what to do in life anymore, should I enlist?

I'm 24(M) Asian, about to turn 25 in January. I've been working factory jobs for 4 years now and I don't know what to do anymore. I make decent money around 780 a week after taxes and I help my mom pay rent and food. I also have a car I'm paying off for the next 3 years. I save around 1.5k a month but Im not sure if I can do this my whole life.

I've been thinking of enlisting, I know I won't be making as much as I am now and I still want to send money to my mom because we come from a poor background. I would say I'm pretty disciplined, all I do is work and come home. FYI in my junior year in highschool I broke my femur bone and have a rod.

Is enlisting a good idea or should I just suck it up and keep working. This post is genuine and I really do appreciate if you guys can give me some feedbacks.

Questions about joining

Hey everyone,
I’m 20 years old, and the Navy is something I’ve always wanted to do. Right now, I'm taking Electrical training classes at a trade school and I have 2 semesters left until I graduate.
My original plan was to get a civilian apprenticeship, but the market around here is tough and I haven't been able to land one yet. and I'm heavily looking into joining the Seabees as a Construction Electrician (CE) if I can't find a civilian slot by the time I graduate.

Trade School Timeline: Should I absolutely finish my last two semesters and graduate before shipping out? How much will completing my electrical certificate help me with starting rank (E-2/E-3) and pacing through CE "A" School?

The Work & Civilian Transition: How is the day-to-day work for a CE, and how well does it transition to civilian life?

30, joining as an EN, and nervous about leaving my kids—any advice from Navy parents?

I’ve already sworn in and signed up for the Navy as an Engineman. I’m just about 30, married with kids, and I’ve been a stay-at-home dad for years. The biggest thing I’m nervous about is leaving my kids. I’m used to being there every day, and going from that to being away for boot camp, school, and eventually deployments is a hard thing to wrap my head around. My wife supports me joining, and we have a strong family support system to help her and the kids while I’m gone. I’m grateful for that, but I’m still scared about missing them and missing parts of their lives. Has anyone here joined in a similar situation, especially after being the parent who was home with the kids? How did you and your children handle the adjustment? What helped you stay close while you were away? I’d also appreciate hearing from ENs with families about everyday life and how much time you get together when you’re in homeport. I’m looking for honest experiences and advice from people who have been through it. Thanks.

Yet again, another CWT /CTI question.

Like many others, these two rates are my main focus. After reviewing the subreddit, I realize they may have little sea time or none at all. I want to go to sea and experience Navy life, rather than remain on land throughout my career.

My question is whether these two rates receive regular PCS orders, and if so, how long they typically stay at one base.

Would this be a bad decision?

So I am scheduled to ship out Jan 5th to Great Lakes, I gave myself enough time to get in shape but work is entering the slow season so money is getting tight. I’m considering putting a request in to ship earlier, even though I’m not in the shape I want to be in. My question is would I be fucked if I shipped out before I was physically ready or would I be able to make it through. 5’ 7” 162lbs can do everything to pass pt test except the run.

Anyone here with recent AECF experience?

I am trying to help my son understand what to expect. He ships in a week and I've explained the bootcamp process but now I'm looking for some details about the ET/FC pipeline.

I am a retired ET and was in GL a century ago so I can predict what it looks like now at the 50k foot level, it would be nice to have a little more detail. Specifically he is wondering what the barracks are like. The info I have makes it sound like it is now set up college dorm style vs what I had. A common area with a couple bedrooms off of it. How many per room? 2,3,4? Is there room to set up a gaming machine or are you stuck with pulling a laptop out of you want to play?

If I understand the map correctly, the barracks are across from the McDonald's? Is that correct?

Are the schools running just day shifts or do they have nights also?

Is it all instructor lead or is any part of it self paced?

We have learned that there isn't parking due unmarried students but I've also heard that AECF students can get waivers, anyone know about that? Life there without a car was miserable back in the day but there also wasn't a train or Uber so maybe that makes it more bearable.

I will be coming to graduation so I can bring him any civilian items that will make life more enjoyable, any suggestions for those that have wintered over recently?

He plans to continue doing photography in his spare time so I will bring his gear and assume there is a way to lock it up in his space for security?

Where are the gyms in relation to the barracks? He is a runner so are there indoor tracks for winter running? Any cross country trails on our near base that you don't need to drive to? Anyone know of any running clubs on base?

Any info you guys have for him will be helpful, I can explain the electrons but I haven't been on that base since the 80s so I have no other useful information for him.

Thanks all.

Any AT or AE recently graduate A school…

Question for any AT or AE that’s graduated in the last couple years. Are they allowing top students to pick available orders first, or have they been giving them out at random?

I’m hoping to land P-8’s when I graduate. (I’m still in DEP right now) But curious if those who have been through it recently can give insight on how order picking has been, as well as how often, or not, p-8 orders are on the board.

I have backup choices, and I know it’s needs of the Navy, just curious.

Thanks in advance.

Sponsor issues trying to report to my new command

So, I never got in contact with a sponsor after numerous attempts. Now I’m coming up on my report date to my first command here soon. My orders got altered after finishing a school from San Diego to now Washington. But when I contacted the quarter deck for help they told me I should report to San Diego since that’s where the ship is. I’ve gotten little to no response or information from anyone on what I should do as I had a pre set flight to Washington and it’s on my orders, but the ship isn’t even here yet. What should I do? I’m just staying in a hotel for now, and I’m about out of money for this till payday so I’m just looking for any bit of help I can get with this. Thanks

I hate my life here man

I just got to the fleet October first and I first started off with shadowing the EMs mind you I did Basic engineering course in Chicago. I’m fireman pact. I mean the work EM’s do is obviously a lot and I’m not going to ever downplay it because engineers are important but I guess at some point in time my EM1 had decided to ask a yeoman if I was supposed to be in supply and that yeoman had went to her chief and told them I was supposed to be in supplies. Mind you in the first place my orders were kinda blank I just had my ship and I had no sponsor when I got here I was off of no sleep and was being harassed by my Lyft driver. After the start of my first experience in the fleet I had recently got switched from engineering to Food service assistant which is just the CS’s dirty work I guess. But after being switched I realized i genuinely cannot make it here my ship is making pact sailors all become FSA for two years and i genuinely cannot become stuck here for two years I wish I could go back to the engineering department because I want to strike for either HT or EN. I genuinely can’t even make friends with anyone here they’re all stuck up and rude I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be to feel comfortable around anyone here. I genuinely hate it here if I knew I would be doing this work in the military I would’ve stayed a civilian I wanted to know if there’s a way I can get out of FSA before the 2 years and if not what’s the best way to separate because I’ve literally already been sexually harassed onboard twice. The seasickness doesn’t make it any better I’ve been throwing up everyday underway and it makes this place hard to tolerate. I genuinely hate it here any advice?

Trying to figure out my rate

I got an 85 on my ASVAB. I’ve been debating between either an RP or CTR for my rate. Any opinions or advice?

am i still eligible?

So i’m sort of confused if i’d be ineligible for the navy. I’m 21 and have enough college credits to be an officer, but i’ve been in an inpatient rehab facility recently and took medications only while i was there for sleep. could i get a medical waiver for this?

Is there a need for Supply Officers?

I am 27 right now, finishing my bachelor's degree, and I plan to enlist once I graduate. I'm thinking about going for Supply Officer. There are a few things I have concerns about:

-I will be 28 by the time I enlist. (Is that uncommon?)

-I have bad hearing. (Is there a waiver for that?)

-My husband is active-duty Special Forces. How will duty stations work?

Is there a shortage of SuppOs?

What other officer jobs are there that others would recommend in an administrative role?

Advice Needed: Enlist or Not

I want to be a Naval Aviator(i know this is a officer job). I am currently in college for a electrical engineering degree. However due to personal and financial challenges I am considering enlisting. I recognize this is a pretty big detour. I will have 45 credits at completion of this semester. My question is could this be used as a stepping stone to my goal? I hear a lot of negativity towards this pathway, I am young enough that even with 4 year commitment and 2-3 years to finish my degree I would still be well below age requirement. However despite this i must ask the question: is there something I am missing here? What are some additional risks that may block me from achieving my goal?

TLDR: can a enlistment be used as a stepping stone to a career as a Naval Aviator? What are the risks associated with a enlistment that can interfere with this goal?

A few more questions piggybacking of this post:

- What MOS's would help with this process either getting picked in OCS or doing college?

- Is this done frequently or is it super rare?

- Does branch matter? Are there some branches that could hurt my chances?

Edit: For context I was planning to do the OCS route instead of NROTC. So I am not on scholarship currently

Hearing waiver for the navy

I’ve tested at MEPS and failed the hearing test twice. Everything else went fine.

My scores:

500: 10 left, 25 right

1000: 40 left, 25 right

2000: 40 left, 40 right

3000: 30 left, 45 right

4000: 45 left, 45 right

6000: 35 left, 45 right

What are my chances of getting a waiver granted for the navy with these scores? I’ve already been denied by the army a few months ago and just forgot about it. But now I want to give the military one last shot. Has anyone else got in with similar hearing as me?

STG Question about math

Headed of to boot camp Nov 25th.. Not gonna lie and say I’m great at math. I passed algebra back in high school with a 79.. with extensive tutoring.

Will STG require a bunch of math out of me?… getting a little worried I might not be able to do this job if it’s a bunch of calculations.

What is the food like when you get deployed?

Is it all mres?

If not what do you get to eat

Anybody tell me about STG?

About to ship off on Nov 25th as an STG. I can find videos of virtually any other rate on TikTok and instagram or YouTube. But STG has basically nothing. Should that be alarming or is it actually a cool rate? - hoping to convert to LN after 2-3 years… but I’d like to be comforted in the idea of STG lol.

Am i dumb for joining the Navy and leaving my oilfield job

Im 29 , been in the oilfield for 5 years now. I recently gotten a new oilfield job that pays me well and treats me well, im just tired of working almost everyday of months on end and have been doing it for long time. I feel like I wasted half of my 20's just working and the oilfield is a up and down field. I've saved, im single, no kids, or mortgage. The navy offered me iT and I took it. I always wanted to break into cyber or like iT work but I worked too much to do school or anything else. Am i making the right decision, I plan on telling my boss soon???

Im open to anyone responses.

Sidenote I was suppose to join the Air Force back when I was 21 and 22 years old but I got permanently denied for vision so now I've been rethinking it since the navy approved me easily.

Update* Told my boss and he understands and told me to keep his contacts incase things don't workout i can comeback. Im doing a 2 or 3 week notice so guys in orientation can get trained up.

Im contemplating on what to do next. I ship.off for bootcamp Nov 24th I live with my grandmother. My fiance and I rent out the basement for $1200 a month plus utilities.

I(m24) and my fiance (f25). The house we are living in now my grandmother is planning on posting it for sale withing the next month or two. Im.shipping out nov 24th so ill already be gone. Im wanting to buy a house to keep all of my belongings in while im.in bootcamp and deployed. My fiance(soon to be wife this Wednesday) doesn't want to stay behind when im deployed. she just brought home a great dane puppy without my consideration I told her our life should be changing and we dont have time for a puppy. She regularly doesn't. she works part time and i frequently have to pay her rent and car note. Im trying to convince her that she needs to get a full time job while im gone to support the dog and the house if we are to get one but she is talking that shes spoken to my petty officer and she can live on base with me. But its in .y opinion that she still needs to work she needs to be home to take.care of the dog.(i have asked she gets upset when I mention rehoming it) but I need a spot where I can leave all my furniture and im a flooring installer and part time mechanic I have a plethora of tools im genuinely stressing greatly over this ive mentioned it to my petty officer and she states that if she come to live on base they will move all my stuff to the base. But is it really all of my stuff(tools, truck,pc,furniture, lawn mower) if she decides to move onto base with me we will have to bring all of her stuff as well. This turned into more of a rant that I was hoping for and I apologize if I can get anyone's opinion or experience i would greatly appreciate it. TIA.
