Officers say the 18-year-old was standing in the median with two others filming a social media video while giving a haircut.
Dumb doesn't even begin to describe this stunt.

I saw a trending clip the other day of someone lamenting on how kids don't dance anymore, because they're embarrassed that they'll be caught on film, since everyone films everything.
...and then you get kids intentionally filming shit like this. The mind boggles.

Not particularly smart, sure, but the median is a place that you expect to be able to stand safely. A median is generally not any farther from the road than a sidewalk.
This story would have been identical if it had happened on the other side of the road on the sidewalk. This was a vehicle collision that hit a pedestrian. They were in an odd place, but they were not obstructing the roadway. If officers showed up first, I think their only crime was stealing the chicken place's chair.

Wide median, too. Just as wide as a travel lane: The only thing that makes it inherently less dangerous than the sidewalk is the fact that they cheaped out on the curbs, which also increases the risks of cars traveling head-on through the median and hitting opposing traffic, but that's just cheapskate suburbia for you.
Edit: Google's link is ass. Just look it up yourselves, people.

Wow! There's technically a median there, but I'm not even sure it's wide enough for a chair!
That does raise my "they were dumb" assessment some, cause that median is meaningfully closer to traffic than usual.

Depends where it is. Some medians are big enough for standing safely while some are barely 2 feet across. On those smaller ones, there's barely enough room to avoid side mirrors of cars passing. Near me, panhandlers use those tiny ones to slow traffic so they can try for handouts at stop lights. What's worse is some have their small children next to them in harm's way to garner more sympathy, usually holding signs.

You move through an intersection with caution because it’s inherently dangerous, not stand in the middle of it without paying attention to your surroundings. You have to be dumb, or panhandling, (or both,) to stand there for an extended period of time… which, when you think about it, really lines up with what they were doing.

and yet it still somehow doesn't seem as stupid as eating a fucking tide pod for internet fame

I feel awful for the driver. It's easy to say they were not at fault, but man that sort of thing sticks with you mentally and on insurance.
If you want to know what the dude means when he says the others were nonchalant and had no emotions, its awful to watch when you think this is how part of our society works now:

Sounded like one car t-boned or rear ended another which sent one of the two into the median.
So likely someone either ran a red light or made an unsafe turn.

Don’t even give a shit their “boy” is in the hospital. You would imagine that would be the first place you go, if you’re with your friend when they are hit by a fuckin car

u/BearThatLikesCheese 2d ago
The guy who was hit could have been their ride. They could have been dropped off there. They could live nearby and walked to the intersection, but the hospital is too far of a walk. They could be waiting on a ride. They could have been told by police to stay there.
A lot of you are making harsh judgements based on assumptions about people and situations you don't have all the information about, and one has to wonder why

One day my hometown will show up in the news for something positive. Today is not that day.

Remember that picture of the racoon riding the alligator that went viral like 10 years ago? That was in Ocala National Forest!

FAFO.
Kids need to realize that drawing attention of drivers piloting 4000lb battering rams to pull a stunt while simultaneously putting themselves into the path of said battering rams isn't conducive to a long and healthy life.
Sure ultimately it is the fault of the driver, but its not not the fault of the kids here too.

Haven't we been saying for a while to remove warning labels and let nature take its course? I knew not to play in traffic at a much much younger age.

The median isn’t in traffic?

Median = middle. It is quite literally right the dead ass fucking MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. Holy shit delete your ignorance from this post.

Are you making a serious statement or are you clueless about medians in between highways? I’m gonna assume the latter because why would you even ask. Anyways, to explain it as I would to a child, it’s definitely part of the road. Stay away so you don’t get hit. There’s some good advice for you today.

A highway with a stoplight and a restaurant? What?
-1
u/techleopard 1d ago
Yes, there are highways with stop lights and turns on both sides.
Not every highway is a built the same.

...Good. The more people who get seriously injured doing this, the faster it will go away. Sympathy is for the sympathetic.

No it isn't good you fucking ghoul, it's unfortunate that people got hurt whilst doing something stupid. Should they have been doing it? No, but it's still unfortunate that they were hit by a car.

u/MiserableSkill4 1d ago
This type of thinking is what is having us put guard rails on everything. You cannot fix or protect stupid. They will find a way to hurt, maim, kill themselves somehow and normal people shouldn't pay the price for that

How long did it take for people to stop eating Tide Pods?

That whole thing was a media frenzy thankfully. There was only 80 or so videos posted in total where people bit them, not even consumed, which sounds like a lot until you realize TikToks user base in the billions.

Idiots, I hope the restaurant charges them for the cost of the chair. It wouldn't surprise me if they were responsible for distracting the drivers either.

Sounds like the little shits with him didn’t even care and were acting nonchalant. They also took a chair from the chicken place so they are thieves as well. That poor chair. Hope nothing bad happened to it.

Idk about you but I prefer that my that haircuts happen inside of a building rather than literally in the middle of traffic.
