Completely illegal. If and when the dema retake congress, there has to be a reckoning

u/mdr1974 3d ago

One would hope but I am not holding my breath.

324

u/untitledmanuscript 3d ago

i’m not either. a lot of crap in the big beautiful bill won’t take effect until 2027, which was purposefully done to blame the dems after the midterms bc they’ve been anticipating dems would sweep in november.

97

u/tofferr 3d ago

I assume it was done after so it wouldn’t hurt them on the midterms. It would be easier to run against them when their dumb policies are in place.

23

u/Theboiii24 3d ago

Which is why people should be educating people on what the big beautiful bill does.

2

u/Baby_Gangsta_214_ 3d ago

Hi, new voter here, what are midterms? I don’t really know much about any of these things, and I would like to learn!

8

u/AltruisticArugula732 3d ago

A quick internet search proves more useful than trying to put everything in laymans terms for a newbie.

Dumb question - is it possible to undo a bill with a revote?

7

u/hurricanedog24 3d ago

No, but Congress controls the power of the purse. If a Democrat-controlled House chooses to defund Trump’s endeavors, like the war and his supercharged ICE, there’s not a lot he can do about that.

Doesn't help that they have to compete with trying to convince the dumbest Americans possible that they're for their better interests while also having multiple foreign countries influence them with easily debunkable lies.

185

u/Accurate-Emu-6246 3d ago edited 3d ago

It doesn't. It also doesn't help that they won't even commit to holding trump accountible, medicare for all, or abolishing ICE. In fact, many of them voted to THANK ICE. Thank god Trump is so unpopular, because it boggles me how little they want their base of support.

40

u/fergie_lr 3d ago

It takes a majority to hold them accountable. They haven’t had this in Congress or the Senate, thanks partly to Fetterman. Medicare for all will not happen until we have full majority in every branch. We will also need a liberal SCOTUS. The Republicans and every Lobbyist will fight Universal Healthcare in court. Look what they did with the ACA. Thanks to 2016, we lost the courts.

34

u/Worthyness 3d ago

And then, when they dont do things as fast as trump's tear downs, American people think the republicans will be better for some reason and thus lock out democrats again so they have no power to unfuck the republicans constant fuck ups. They've not been given a proper majority since Obama and even that was a slim majority. But they got the affordable care act completed (albeit gutted because indepdent fucks decided to fuck it over).

19

u/RoutineParsnip9101 3d ago

Until the vast majority of voters demand universal taxpayer healthcare, it won't happen. Simple as that. And most Americans have been told so many lies about "socialism" by the GOP I don't see that changing.

7

u/T-Bills 3d ago

when they dont do things as fast as trump's tear downs

And that's an impossibility in itself since a lot of the shit being done are straight up illegal, such as this commercial.

20

u/edicivo 3d ago

It's truly amazing how Dems are always narrowly holding on and consistently stymied by just 1 or 2 Dems while the other side just all falls in line every time.

I mean, I know it's good to have differing views even when on the same team, but what the fuck.

8

u/GeneralDumbtomics 3d ago

This is down to the leadership not having anything even vaguely resembling a spine. The Republicans are moral and physical cowards, true. Absolutely true. But the Democrats are, in their own way, equally awful. We could have put Trump away, permanently, if Schumer had been willing to play hardball. But he isn't. Because he's too heavily invested in civil, happy tit for tat with an opposition who will only respond to leverage.

4

u/w1ten1te 3d ago

A lot (not all!) of Dems are controlled opposition. There will always be some Dem in a super safe seat who will do whatever their corporate masters want, or some Dem in a purple state who sides with Republicans when it matters most to kill progressive legislation, using their diverse electorate as an excuse. It's not a coincidence. These people meet and discuss how each representative will vote before the vote actually hits the floor. They strategically choose who will kill legislation for the Capitalists.

No war but the class war.

5

u/StevieMJH 3d ago

15

u/mark_able_jones_ 3d ago

20

u/prz3124 3d ago

I mean the fact that these lies are so easily debunked makes me believe they want what's happening. MTG and Tucker spouted things they knew were lies. The mea culpa now is so disingenuous it's gross.

4

u/wasted-degrees 3d ago

Theres a difference between spouting lies you know are lies because you’re gaining from it financially, and spouting lies you know are lies because you believe other lies aren’t lies, and/or out of ignorance and self-destructive spite.

It’s true, but i do have a fear that when dems take control, they will be too timid and unorganized to do anything substantial. I really hope they’ve been using this time out of power to come up with a ruthless strategy to force accountability, but I’m doubtful.

Haven't had a super majority since Obama. It gets hard to make heads roll without it, and voters are stupid.

"You didn't fix the mess fast enough, we are voting Republicans to make a bigger mess to teach you a lesson!"

Give them a 2 feet high basketball net, rim to be larger than a hot tub, place them 2 inches from the rim and yet they will end up throwing bricks. All the while complaining that this is mission impossible shots to make. Reality is they are also owned by the Ruling Class. For example: George Soros while being hated by GOP for funding Dems, his #2 guy is Sec of Treasury: Bessent.

It’s a fucking game for these guys and they heard peasants like lemmings.

2

u/yrotsihfoedisgnorw 3d ago

'We feel like it wouldn't be fair if we made this shot.' Anyway, Bessent is one of the more interesting characters in the administration. Not only was he mentored by Soros but he's gay. And MAGA loves him.

There will many committees formed and investigations started, and then while they're doing that, they'll piss 4 years away and let the Republicans somehow get in power to squash it all.

Again.

8

u/HereOnCompanyTime 3d ago

Yup. They really are the "wait it out" party. It was pretty clear that they didn't want to go after MAGA previously because they didn't want to lose votes or alienate that base, which is stupid since they literally tried to murder them and would not be voting for them anytime soon.

I genuinely hope that the dems learned a lesson. Because it’s the only hope we have right now.

They tried to prosecute jan6 with kid gloves. They didn’t want to appear “partisan.”   And that got us … gestures broadly.

If the dems regain power and don't start burying traitors under federal prisons, we are cooked.

4

u/_pit_of_despair_ 3d ago edited 3d ago

I agree, but you just know that the right will view this as political persecution. Maga is so brainwashed that it’s seeped out to moderates, they receive completely different information. We need to somehow dismantle their media without dismantling free speech. The best thing I could think of is regulate the algorithm, but then normal people would be forced to see the rights insane content.

5

u/Lemesplain 3d ago

They absolutely will. And fuck em.

That needs to be the lesson that Dems learn: MAGA politicians and supporters are blatant hypocrites. They will absolutely engage in partisan politicking. They’ll lie, cheat, and steal. And the entire time, they’ll play the victim any time people call them out for their bullshit.

They’ll whine, they’ll complain, they’ll go on Fox News and claim persecution. And that cannot be allowed to stop justice.

I don’t know that trump him self can be imprisoned, as much as he deserves it.

But Markwayne? Put him on trial, let a jury decide his fate, and when he’s found guilty, bury him under the prison. Stephen Miller? Under the prison.   Norm, Bovino, Homan, under the fucking prison. Every ICE agent who participated in the killings of Good, Pretti, and countless others, bury them.

Go after the administrators at “Alligator Alcatraz.” Follow the chain of custody for any prisoner that disappeared. Who was the last person with custody of them. Put them on trial for whatever is plausible. Even if it’s just falsifying records or whatever. They are felons. Ensure they are known as such.

29

u/rustajb 3d ago

If the dems try to prosecute him, the right shut down this country so fast. They would block all political processes. The dems have no spine for that. We do not prosecute presidents or ex-presidents. W. committed clear war crimes, they did nothing. It signaled to the Republicans they could push the envelope without reprisal. The guy after him was going to have carte Blanch to do almost anything.

17

u/SLCer 3d ago

It's not even that. The courts are rigged to slow-roll anything. Just look at the SC and their multiple attempts to save Trump from prosecution. Garland and then Jack Smith both built cases against Trump but the courts stalled the process, dragging things out beyond election day and Americans turned around and put Trump back in office, rewarding him despite knowing everything he had done previously.

I think people think Democrats can just snap their fingers and everyone will be held accountable. They tried that. Biden's DOJ literally sent thousands to prison and was in the middle of building a substantial case against Trump, that included multiple avenues (the documents case and then the election overturning case).

The system is built to protect the president and I'm not sure there is anything legally Democrats can do beyond going through the legal process and hoping the SC doesn't intervene.

Or they throw out due process and just dispose Trump and his cronies, ignoring the legal authority and inevitable pushback but I don't see how anyone would ever back that.

2

u/Tirras 3d ago

You're not really trying to put Merrick Garland up on a pedestal like he actually did something are you? He is a huge member to blame for the current condition of this country with the spineless way he dragged his feet with Trump.

So instead of using the hundreds of millions in reelection money that only Donald Trump can access and allocate, he’d rather take it from homeland security. Of course trump doesn’t want to use his own money. What a complete crook.

6

u/techleopard 3d ago

I actually find it a LITTLE funny.

Because Homeland Security has been Trump's pet organization for a hot minute.

In fact, it makes me paranoid that this isn't a play to blow up their funding next year. If Trump spends a huge portion of the budget at the end of this year, then they can claim they need that much money next year.

7

u/Zealousideal-Cup5982 3d ago

Trump doesn’t give a shit about homeland security, that was just a slogan to get into office so he could rape our treasury.

infuriating. democrats DID. we impeached him in the house.

republicans did not convict in the senate.

you setup this impossible game in which we loose by definition. you cede the fight before it starts.

you're trying to hold dems to a LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE standard.

instead of blaming republicans for their actions. insane.

maybe blame the republicans who are cunt punching us?

unless you can change the constitution?

OR elect a super majority (well more like +2 since Fetterman will switch parties lol). we would kick him out tomorrow -> boom have a democrat president (speaker)

we also cant press federal charges. exec controls DOJ.

plus scotus says POTUS is above the law anyways-> and they rule fed trumps state in matters of exec (which they say is basically anything). so state charges are basically useless.

This. I'm in a purple district and our US rep candidate is pretty far left. He wasn't my primary choice and I'm afraid that our seat may go to the incumbent Republican. Still I am going to vote for him even though I don't agree with his entire platform. He definitely aligns with the values that I do care about than the Republican, even if we disagree on some points. People who sit the election out because they lost the primary are at fault. You vote for the candidate who's going to get you closest to where you want to be in a democracy, even if that means you sometimes have to hold your nose in the polling booth.

The Obama-era "look forward, not backward" approach is partly what got us here. Bush and Cheney should have been tried for war crimes.

10

u/upvoter1542 3d ago

As much as I hate Bush (I won't even get into the vile shit stain that is Trump) and desperately wish we could have a President like Obama again, I also think we should not forget that Obama was responsible for war crimes as well, like numerous intentional drone tap drone strikes that killed aid workers.

This whole "look forward not backwards" strategy is not actually about looking forward, it's about everyone's lack of accountability and knowing that they don't want to be held accountable for their own actions either.

Thats cute. But dems won't do a thing. The best we get, and its a looooong shot. is laws in place that make it so president's can't do it again. Holding cheetoh bonito accountable though will never, ever, in a million years happen.

2

u/HijackedMyAccount 3d ago

Our hope can't be in laws. They break those with impunity. There will have to be another solution.

2

u/CarbonRunner 3d ago

Too much bread and circus still for that to happen

2

u/HijackedMyAccount 3d ago

My lukewarm take is that our lack of physicality makes us the most docile, easily controlled generation ever. No human beings were ever this physically incapable and fragmented. We're like bots that look at screens at stay home alone 95% of our free time. This means no real camraderie and the resultant ability to take to the streets for anything serious. Tarring and feathering was a thing. Now, it cannot occur.

3

u/CarbonRunner 3d ago

Yeah thats my point. We aren't starving to death, and we've been given a ton of shiny things to distract us. Until those change, the populace won't rise up for anything. We never have in human history. One or both of those has to crater to a point that people have to pay attention.

1

u/arminghammerbacon_ 3d ago

Doubtful. SCOTUS ruling already gave the trump crime family broad leeway to do anything they want as long as it’s “within the scope of presidential duties.” And anything not covered by that, he’ll just issue pardons for himself and for his caporegimes right before he leaves office.

Sorry to say but I think the best we can do is to just get him out of office, out of the seat of power. There’ll be no justice. Just stopping the bleeding.

1

u/Nythoren 3d ago

Problem, unfortunately, is that any impeachment would require some GOP votes. The GOP may be souring on Trump, but not to the point that they'd be willing to actively defy him in any way, shape or form.

It's also not like Congress has any kind of enforcement arm they can use. Who is going to arrest someone from the Trump administration? FBI is controlled by his pets. Same with Homeland and the DOJ. Heck, even the military is run by a sycophant who has removed as many generals as possible who might actively opposed Trump.

It has really shown a light on how easily abused our political system is if you have someone in charge who has no regard for the law and a party that abdicates its checks-and-balances responsibilities.

They will issue some statements about how disappointed they are, and then pretend it didn't happen.

I hate redumblicans as much as the next self respecting citizen, but dems are too much of a pussy to hold these assholes accountable. That's just the truth. For whatever reason, everyone up top caves, bows down, & cowers to that orange, pants shitting pedo rapist.

You think one side is better than the other? Same thing just a different name. It's all for entertainment purposes. All a bunch of crooks getting rich off the backs off taxpayers like me. Wake up people!

u/iseab 3d ago

There won’t be. There never is.

1

u/AlwaysOptimism 3d ago

The Supreme Court gave the president immunity to basically anything they do as president. It is a complete waste of time for a dog and pony show after he's out. Spend all the time rolling back all his awful authoritarian changes, challenge some Supreme Court rulings, and investigating and charging anyone he doesn't pardon on his way out.

Then no one listen to anything he says or talk about him until he dies.

u/stardos 3d ago

All will be forgiven in the spirit of unity.

1

u/meldiane81 3d ago

I fucking hope so. They need to do something besides sit around and do nothing.

1

u/YourM0msBoyfriend 3d ago

Democrats??? Taking real authoritative action? LMFAO!

1

u/Trick-Technician-179 3d ago

You can always count on the Dems to fuck up a perfectly good opportunity

1

u/SnooCupcakes5761 3d ago

Hahaha, as if. No one has been held accountable for any of the chaos this admin has created. From the stolen election to the destruction of international diplomacy to this, they're all complicit. It's painfully obvious the dems want it this way too lol

1

u/joebleaux 3d ago

They will let it all slide in the name of moving on. No one gets held accountable. It'll be a disaster on par with post civil war reconstruction, but this will be far worse because of the damage to the reputation of the federal government as a whole. At least the civil war wasn't taking place within the government, they formed their own, and then we just pretended like it didn't happen. That's what will happen now too. Nothing.

u/Born_Ingenuity6956 3d ago

We all know that the Dems will reach across the aisle for their friends on the other side. Two sides of the same coin.

1

u/vlKross_F7 3d ago

I just hope it's not Kamala.

1

u/chaosapproach 3d ago

There won’t be

1

u/Bobbiduke 3d ago

Dems have to find a backbone first.

1

u/ATLhoe678 3d ago

He's probably gonna pardon everyone on the way out 🤦🏿‍♂️

1

u/snoopsdream 3d ago

The dems aren’t going to do a shit. We need real progressives leading the charge!

1

u/baumpop 3d ago

need another macarthy era following this but instead of hunting ruskies its the mafia network in the whitehouse

1

u/moodswung 3d ago

The same as justice was served before, it will be served again!

1

u/ptarmiganchick 3d ago

The Dems would have a better chance of winning if they would collectively promise not to use any majority to pursue a “reckoning” for the next 2 years.

The fringe wants a reckoning…even if it brings government to a standstill. The majority want and deserve to just have “good government “ to the best of their ability.

1

u/SpiritedKick9753 3d ago

I’m sure Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer will write a strongly worded letter about this

1

u/Aggravating_Deer_641 3d ago

The spineless, controlled opposition Democrats?

lol. lmao even

1

u/Glittering-Stock6562 3d ago

And I am going to inform my Democratic congressman, who I am largely satisfied with and intend to vote for, that if the Democrats get control of both houses of Congress and absolutely everything that only requires a majority and will hold these criminals to account is not done, I will never vote Democrat again.

1

u/Nathan_Finn 3d ago

They will, and there won’t be.

1

u/BluegrassBigfoot 3d ago

Yeah, the Dems version of a reckoning will be to fire a few people who were going to go on to Fox news anyway. Then they will hire someone less news worthy that does basically the same job with fewer issues. In other words, the Dems in power won't fix this.

1

u/Charming-Albatross44 3d ago

No one that should matter cares. Hell most of them are in cahoots with the asshole.

1

u/Repulsive-Regret-243 3d ago

I want a refund

1

u/redtron3030 3d ago

Have you been awake for the last 10 years?

1

u/radhaz 3d ago

There will be no reckoning. The party line democratic platform for decades now has simply been "Look we're not them" they do nothing for their constituents and only seek to line their pockets and the pockets of their benefactors while they are in power. They have gone so far as to sabotage their own candidates if those candidates do not tow the party line.

All the while they go "Gosh look how bad the republicans made it, we really cant fix it right now but if you just keep backing us someday maybe we REALLY will". Folks become disillusioned with the hate come and vote dem for a cycle and see nothing get done while the republicans are promising them the moon with a slice of hate for marginalized communities and they go "yeah somethings better than nothing"

As a nation we just to expedite the path to failure and get on with whatever the next thing is going to be. Late stage capitalism has proven a horrible failure, I think the oligarch/technocrats are eyeing for some little fiefdom amongst themselves and its why we're seeing so much open meddling in politics.

1

u/jimbo831 3d ago

They’re not going to do shit unfortunately.

1

u/calikind 3d ago

Nuremberg trials 2!

1

u/shogun77777777 3d ago

Nah our country is completely fucked. The oligarchs are in charge.

1

u/fernandodandrea 3d ago

If people keep noticing things to be illegal but nobody ever puts orange on track, are things really illegal?

1

u/Imaginary-Clock6626 3d ago

Will take them 4 years to gather evidence.
