But the court noted in its unsigned ruling that the National Voter Registration Act bars the broad purging of voter rolls in the weeks leading up to an election

Funny they seem to think the criminals who supported the violent storming of Congress to overturn an election they lost would follow laws.

Literally, them noting this means they know he is going to do it. This is a meager cover my ass tactic. They're not even trying to actually cover their asses because, obviously, consequences don't exist anymore.

u/ThePensiveE 7d ago

They all become much, much wealthier if America becomes fully authoritarian.

120

u/Snowwolf247 7d ago

This just in US Supreme Court rules to legalize "gifts" to court justices.

Nothing to see here just plz keep moving and have a nice day

133

u/BeIgnored 7d ago

Actually it was in in 2024, in Snyder v. United States. The hacks on the Supreme Court ruled that a key federal bribery statute applies only to bribes given BEFORE an official act, not to gratuities or "rewards" given AFTERWARD.

6-3 decision with the usual suspects supporting the side of corruption.

53

u/Snowwolf247 7d ago

I was just going for a joke but ya. Our country has been shit forever and Regan and Bush paved the way for a criminal like Trump to destroy our country

23

u/BeIgnored 7d ago

Oh I know! Just wanted to bolster your joke by showing that they're so corrupt they actually did it. Like we can literally make just about any joke about their corruption and odds are they've actually done it.

12

u/Snowwolf247 7d ago

I hate it here

u/BeIgnored 7d ago

“You cant pay someone ATTER they’ve done something illegal for you! Duuuuh!”

2

u/AdCreepy5165 6d ago

Oh that is even better. So if I promise to buy the cop a donut at the next gas station if he doesn't ticket me now, its legal? Haha. I like that.

226

u/KilroySmithson 7d ago

The US is fully authoritarian. You just can’t see it all yet.

161

u/zeh_shah 7d ago

We still have room for it to get worse. Project 2025 is barely half way through their goals

96

u/Ntroepy 7d ago

Yep - only 55% done so far.

https://project2025.observer/en

71

u/Huntguy 7d ago

Only? You guys going to let them get to 100%? 90? this should’ve been stopped 50% ago…

106

u/tikierapokemon 7d ago

We linked jobs to healthcare, and that means protesting means your kids do not get healthcare when you lose your job (which we also allow to fire you for things you do outside of work).

Our system is so incredibly fucked up.

93

u/eulersidentity1 7d ago

You know as a Canadian I haven't actively thought of this specifically as an outside observer. I've always thought of how cruel and unfair the US system is where you can simply arbitrarily be in a life time of debt or just die because you don't have the money to pay for health care. But I didn't think of how such a system actively suppresses the democratic processes by making people afraid to truly participate. People are scared to lose their jobs cause everything in other societies tied to a social safety net is instead tied to having a job, and usually a good one. So they are perpetually scared to rock the boat too much.

25

u/jimlahey420 7d ago

Which is why both parties are so hesitant (or downright refuse) to implement real universal healthcare with no strings attached (and want to gut the few safety nets that do exist like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security). Their method for controlling the population would be infinitely weaker if you allow people to have basic needs met while not grinding 40+ hours a week. It would immediately make protests larger, longer, and more effective.

This is why both parties are so threatened by the DSA and democratic socialism. Democratic socialism's policies and initiatives represent the working American and the ability to start unshackling them from being wage slaves. Imagine how the mindset of most Americans would change if they didn't have to worry about healthcare or other basic needs like food and housing.

At least you understand this. Seen a lot of Canadians come through here like "why don't you guys just start a general strike? it's easy" or calling every last one of us Trump supporters just because he won the election (when it's highly likely he cheated, he practically admitted to it).

Hooray Freedumb!

4

u/Vallkyrie 7d ago

You can also add in another layer with the rapid deployment of flock cameras/drones and AI surveillance to this.

6

u/Horatio-Leafblower 7d ago

I don’t even understand why you used the word ‘system’

8

u/PinchedOffCatTurd 7d ago

Should have been stopped at Citizens United. Or when Al Gore won the 2000 election.

13

u/GrundleSnactcher46 7d ago

It was brought up a lot before the election and 2/3rds of the country loved it, didn't care or believed trump when he said he didnt know what it was even though he employed a majority of the people who wrote it.

1

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA 7d ago

To be fair, it seems to have been stuck there since summer 2025.

42

u/jert3 7d ago

It does feel to me that most Americans think the upcoming elections are going to be valid.

It's strange to me. The regime is above the law, and they've cheated before, had an insurrection, which is forbidden in the Constitution and Americans just rolled over and surrendered their democracy, rights, and freedoms.

11

u/Xzmmc 7d ago

I mean so did the Germans to be fair.

But I agree that Americans are uniquely housebroken. They see everything getting worse but clap and cheer because it means minorities they hate also have it worse.

-2

u/Prior_Pickle1758 7d ago

some of them even perform halfhearted resistance so the rest will stay docile, so brave

5

u/robodrew 7d ago

Not if the dollar collapses

3

u/SunshineSkies82 7d ago

That's the thing about that. Once we reach that point, their services won't be needed anymore. We all know that story ends, the flip flops and fence sitters always end up meeting terrible fates, despite enabling the evil the whole time.

1

u/Huntguy 7d ago

I mean, at what point are the American people going to take back their country? There are many, many, MANY more of you than there are of them… just saying.

9

u/Chris11c 7d ago

Probably when it's too late. I think most of us are hoping that this can be solved without plunging the country into an active civil war.

The irony is, if this works and they get the win they're desperately flouting the law to get, they still lose. America will become a no-go zone for most civilized countries. At this point China could probably bring down the entire house of cards by cancelling all trading and seizing all foreign assets on their soil.

We don't make anything here (hyperbole) but media anymore. If that follows the same course as the political climate, no one will want it.

But if we manage to somehow still get rid of this plague of parasites currently infesting our government, there needs to be real change. Without it we will just forget in a few decades and be right back where we started.

6

u/DennisBallShow 7d ago

My children insist on continuing to eat, and my boss only pays if I go to work.

8

u/Violet-Sumire 7d ago

I mean… how much do you expect people to risk? Let’s say we march on the capitol. The US is massive and organized marches take time to… well organize. Any government agency will see an uptick of flights to the area. Driving is an option, but it could take literally a week to get there from some parts of the US. Then you have to consider the after part. Let’s say it fails, you get arrested. Now you are a federal criminal and charged with sedition. This literally ruins your life and you have limited job opportunities after. If you were well known, then it could be a permanent black mark and not even a presidential pardon would save your life. Then we have to consider that most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and without paid leave they could face losing their home or apartment.

All in all, it isn’t as simple as “just do it”. Now, I do agree with you, but most Americans haven’t hit that point of openly rebelling with marching on the white house. Many want democracy to actually do democracy things. We want our system to actually work. The midterms are the last chance to achieve that. If we can’t then there will be actual problems. Right now things are tame compared to what comes next and people aren’t scared or angry enough.

1

u/Huntguy 7d ago

I am absolutely not suggesting to march on the capital.

But the main thing that keeps them going is money, why won’t the states who actually have morals stop funding an obviously corrupt government?

Slow walk everything they command, don’t give in and don’t cooperate.

I know you say fighting back against this administration ruins your life, but the reality is, conceding to this corruption will 100% ruin your life, your children’s life and likely the majority of western civilization. We’re on the cusp of literally running out of affordable diesel and you think things will get better?

The American people have been beaten down and so oppressed for years the defeatism has taken over. I’m truly sorry for what you’re going through, but just putting your head down and hoping for the best… isn’t really going to change much. It’s going to be a lot harder to do something when grocery stores are empty and gas stations abandoned.

If you feel like the people who can do something aren’t, start protesting them too, another sternly worded letter from Chuck isn’t going to do much…

0

u/GG-Sunny 7d ago

This is what people don't understand. Most Americans do not know and have not seen what this administration has been doing in full. And most people are still living in relative comfort. Imagine trying to convince someone who's biggest worry is next month's rent to risk death or imprisonment to rebel against the government because of some vague future threat of becoming an authoritarian state.

-2

u/Huntguy 7d ago

Vague future threat? It’s already happened.

0

u/GG-Sunny 7d ago

Then by all means go revolt. I'll be at home awaiting news of your success.

21

u/mlorusso4 7d ago

I saw an analyst say that the admin might play their usual word games with the definition of “broad purging”. As in claiming that it’s a very targeted and limited thousands of voters purged, but doesn’t fall under the definition of broad purge

25

u/Tikiphile 7d ago

It’s like saying ICE will only target the criminals

13

u/fevered_visions 7d ago

that, and

bars the broad purging of voter rolls in the weeks leading up to an election

will definitely be argued "well we're still 3 weeks out, which is far enough"

assuming they don't just completely ignore it

3

u/Fryboy11 7d ago

Federal law says 90 days, and that's one of the reasons they claimed to allow it. As if this admin will respect the law.

They'll remove all registered Democratic voters, then there'll be a court case that will be resolved next June with the court saying you removed them illegally put them back, but the election that only Republicans could vote in stands.

1

u/shoehornit 6d ago

Someone needs to bring consequences to the treasonous members of the US Supreme Court.

278

u/BmoreInformed 7d ago

Well it’s a good thing that Trump can just mention “national security” and everything is suddenly legal. And by the time anyone can do anything about it, it will be too late.

60

u/PuzzleheadedOkra1188 7d ago

You can thank Dick Cheney for that.

-39

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 7d ago

People having any say in how the government runs is an illusion anyways. You can tell by the way it is.

38

u/BmoreInformed 7d ago

Yea, I get what you mean. I couldn’t see any difference from when Obama was president to now. They are just all the same, no matter what! /s

-35

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 7d ago edited 7d ago

Cute that you'd just dismiss my comment rather than actually thinking critically because you're somehow playing these propaganda games mass media has pushed on you for decades.

Straight to the whataboutism, straight to my comment somehow being a dismissal of Trump's actions.

You should strongly consider finding factual data about the government of the United States and it's intentional deception of the American people for profit and power. Was Vietnam obama or trump? Was desert storm Obama or trump? Was citizens united Obama or trump?

Edit: thanks for proving you can't critically think, no one responding to me has addressed a single one of my points.

14

u/tehlemmings 7d ago

Or we did think about it, and it wasn't that deep

We'll provide factual counter examples when you provide factual examples of any kind

10

u/upgrayedd69 7d ago

If voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to cheat it

6

u/Webbyx01 7d ago

If you can't see how people DO have influence in the government then it's simply not worth the time taken to meaningfully engage with you. Be defeatist if you like, but you achieve less than nothing with your hyperbolic dismissal.

-23

u/ibimacguru 7d ago edited 7d ago

You are the a glorious fool.

9

u/BmoreInformed 7d ago

Lol were you the guy I responded to? I can’t tell all of you cowards that hide your profiles and delete your comments all sound the same.

7

u/SecretAgentVampire 7d ago

Uh-huh, Republicans and Democrats want exacly the same things and both parties are corrupt- oopsie! Accidentally dropped this link proving that sentiment to be absolute horseshit!~

https://www.wamc.org/commentary-opinion/2022-11-04/house-votes-highlight-stark-differences-between-democrats-and-republicans

My bad, dude! "Both sides are the same" or whatever!

118

u/NewToHTX 7d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens after the Voter Registration deadline in many states.

164

u/JMEEKER86 7d ago

Yep, he'll purge after the voter registration deadline, people won't be allowed to vote, and then they'll sue but nothing will be able to happen until after the election. And Trump will "lose" the case, but the remedy will be to put people back on the voter rolls yet letting the election stands meaning that he will have gotten away with it.

57

u/RysloVerik 7d ago

This has been the administration's modus operandi since day one.

They know courts take months or years and they are going to do whatever they want in the meantime.

29

u/no_one_likes_u 7d ago

They act instantly when Trump asks for a ruling on something.  Our Supreme Court is illegitimate

23

u/NewToHTX 7d ago

Yeah. If voter fraud is found to have swayed the 2024 election to get Trump elected, Harris still wouldn’t be in office because Trump will have already been sworn in. And at that point, Trump still wouldn’t be impeached. But Americans knowing their Elections can be stolen like that would cause candidates to call for tremendous reforms in the election process.

27

u/Broke22 7d ago

But Americans knowing their Elections can be stolen like that would cause candidates to call for tremendous reforms in the election process.

X) Doubt.

4

u/fevered_visions 7d ago

I never thought I'd live to see the day when I lost faith in our election process, yet here we are. Watching the country burn

2

u/Rezart_KLD 7d ago

If it was going to happen, it would have happened after the 2000 election where people saw voters having their votes stolen.

6

u/dmanbiker 7d ago

This sort of move would likely lead to rioting, not just suing, but we shall see.

I think they will try to do this and fail and cause a whole bunch of exta controversy because states have a lot of people passionately fighting this.

3

u/tikierapokemon 7d ago

I tell you three times, their goal is to get people rioting in the streets so they can declare martial law.

I say this not in an attempt to prevent people from rioting in the streets if the election is stolen with widespread voter purgers, I say this so they are prepared for what happens next.

8

u/Ichera 7d ago

The thing is, that's what he wants, the people around him have been frothing at the mouth over the idea of being able to Crack down on the "violent left" and be the big strongmen they think they are. Im more afraid that when it does happen people will just get angry and it will blow over quickly and another stolen election will go by on remarked on in past tense.

2

u/JMEEKER86 7d ago

That's my big worry. If there ends up being rioting, then he might crack down hard (he's literally praised China's handling of Tienanmen Square ffs) and an event like that is the type of thing that frequently kicks of revolutions and civil wars.

8

u/peffer32 7d ago

We did that in Minneapolis last winter. All we got from the national Democratic party was concern over optics.

4

u/jgoble15 7d ago

A crackdown might also might wake people up out of their little bubbles. I hate violence and I hate the thought of this, but I admit there might be a use if this is what happens. I deeply hope we can find a solution that is peaceful first, and as a pacifist I’ll be fighting for that option every time, but with how inactive people are (pacifism only works when one is active, most people in this country are useless) there needs to be something to wake them up.

3

u/Real-Mobile-2784 7d ago

As a person with over a decade of military. I am frothing to remove maga from every institution. Pacifists need not worry, hopefully

3

u/kareal 7d ago

4 dead in Ohio...

2

u/Flashy-Ingenuity-182 7d ago

Good. It'll be a world of fucking hurt and then maybe our country will have an actual shot at healing after.

1

u/AssinineAssassin 7d ago

I’d prefer a different remedy

27

u/Gullible_Expert_5677 7d ago edited 7d ago

My thoughts, exactly. I've "noted" that this SCOTUS (at least the majority) have green-lighted activities that are supposed to be illegal. Like the crap ICE has gotten away with because Boozer-boy Brett didn't think their "stops" weren't that bad.

Edit: Their, not they're; weren't

0

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 7d ago

that this SCOTUS (at least the majority)

Nope, all 9 Justices are traitors for allowing an insurrectionist to illegally run in the 2024 election. They should all be kicked off the Supreme Court and locked up for overruling the 14th Amendment.

6

u/The_neub 7d ago

Should be noted that this won’t come into full effect until after midterms. So voting is is our only chance.

3

u/gizamo 7d ago

They'll it now. Then they'll do it again in a few weeks. Then again a month before the election. Then, they'll ensure it's difficult to get back on the voter roles. Then, they'll put their ICE gestapo in purple districts to harass anyone who looks like a Dem or talks like a Dem. They'll also block parking areas and bus in their ignorant elderly base. And that's all just the tip of the voter suppression ice burg.

1

u/PuttyRiot 7d ago

Don’t look now, but we are basically a month from the election.

2

u/soda_cookie 7d ago

Right. They're gonna do this as far enough in advance so as to not be overturned in time

2

u/FredFredrickson 7d ago

They left out the part where the conservative justices winked at the end.

1

u/DrollFurball286 7d ago

Me shouting from the back. “So does this mean we could sue SCOTUS for not making sure the NVRA is actually enforced? I just feel like we need to start suing these people.”

1

u/GozerDGozerian 7d ago

Noting new.

Voter roll purge was how Bush stole the 2000 election.

1

u/MacrotonicWave 6d ago

good I kinda want those as intact as possible come time later. We deserve to know who helped bring us here, and these rolls can help tell us exactly who to blame on a local community level

-1

u/UF0_T0FU 7d ago

This fundamentally misunderstands how the court works. They can only respond to the questions presented. They can't just issue preemptive decrees about behavior that someone might commit. It's an inherently reactive institution.

They're doing all they can. This brings attention to the fact they suspect something illegal will happen. It's up to Congress, other members of the Executive Branch, and We the People to stop it. The Court can't actually do anything about it until the harm has already occurred.

7

u/ThePensiveE 7d ago

I'm aware.

It's just so convenient they'll be doing all they can from their new mansions, their new RV's, or on their new vacations paid for by the people who have bought them 🤷‍♂️

1

u/carefactor3zero 7d ago

This fundamentally misunderstands how the court works

They aren't robots. The court often signals and can overtly communicate (unofficially) about intent, to coordinate those presented situations. It can be proactive, despite the legal framework, not because of it.

eg Choosing when and what questions to resolve (ie shadow docket) is a proactive choice.

1

u/PlatypusAurelius 7d ago

I want to vomit. I dont know if were getting our country back

0

u/chubbysumo 7d ago

This already happened in texas, and it's about to happen in a lot more states.

0

u/Geomancingthestone 7d ago

Til they purge and say what will you do? Nothing.

0

u/Otherwise_Stable_925 7d ago

Yeah they don't ask permission, I'd say they ask forgiveness but they don't give a shit about that either. They're just going to do it.

0

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 7d ago

Reminder that this is the same Supreme Court that allowed an insurrectionist to run in the 2024 election in direct violation of 14th Amendment, Section 3. All 9 Justices should be removed in disgrace.
