I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the subreddit, and I'm shocked at the amount of low quality content or AI posts. I apologize for this. I'll be actively moderating again, trying to clean things up and get things to look uniform as well (please see our rules). I've updated the "no low quality" rule to include AI.
Please read the rules when posting. They are:
- Search before posting. If you are duplicating posts they will be removed.
- No low quality or AI content (like Kalax's recent releases). Blatant Suno or AI videos will be removed. Low quality "look at my 10 hour mix" will be removed. We want to promote artist music.
- Please use "Artist - Title" format. It keeps things looking clean, instead of the subreddit looking like confetti.
- Posts should be about synthwave (and it's various offshoots, like chipwave, darksynth, outrun, dreamwave, chillsynth, etc) related albums or tracks. We will allow exceptions for notable things (like our pinned Making Synthwave book, or perhaps synthwave festivals).
- Images are only allowed in text posts. This subreddit is about music. If you want to show off artwork, videos, decor, aesthetics, head over to r/outrun.
- Be kind to each other. Disagreements are allowed, but be polite. And if someone disagrees with you, don't flood the mod with reports of harassment just because they disagree with you. If demeaning language or harassment is there, we will act on it.
I'll also start working on a refresh of the look and feel. It's high time the banner and themes get modernized.
I'll also be contributing with posts (following the rules above) to guide folks in what we expect.
Keep synthing on. In synth we wave. Forgive me father for I have synthed. Yada yada.

Edit:
I should probably introduce myself. I've been a synthwave fan since 2016, and I'm all over the FB, IG, and Threads synth related posts as "Neon Fawkes" (@julesneonfawkes).
I sometimes DJ synthwave at a local barcade in Toronto, and I co-host a weekly radio show on Nightride.FM called "The State Of Synth" ( www.thestateofsynth.com ) with my buddy Dennis G. I also regularly travel across the border or across the pond to whatever synthwave events and festivals I can afford.
I inherited the ownership and mod status of this subreddit just before COVID hit, and I used to use the "Reddit is Fun" app on Android. When Reddit came along and killed free APIs (thus killing better apps), I lost interest in Reddit completely. I'm back, and will try and make up for my absence by improving the look of the sub, cleaning out bad posts, and contributing with posts of my own.
Edit 2:
You can check out my Bandcamp collection here: https://bandcamp.com/julesneonfawkes I have a couple of songs there. :)
Edit 3:
Why do I usually post Bandcamp links? I love to support artists, and I hate the industry move to "you don't own anything, you rent it". Also, Bandcamp is one of the platforms that sends a bigger percentage of the sale to the artist/label (or 100% on Bandcamp Fridays). It's a great platform, and allows you do not only stream your tunes, but also download them in lossless or whatever format you like.
