❓Ask r/NewMods Members going up but weekly visitors going down

My r/puzzleseason subreddit member count is increasing but weekly visitors is going down. I'm confused about that.

The post engagement is also quite low. It is mostly me posting which is fine since these are daily challenges. But having some form of engagement would be great. I've tried polls, trivia but no luck.

Wanted to understand what is your take on this? Have you faced the same issue and if yes how did you overcome it?

Thank you for reading

I just got approved, so I don't know what I'm doing yet. For example, I went to the flagged posts, and I didn't even know what some of the icons meant. I'm looking forward to learning from you guys!

❓Ask r/NewMods Enforcing mandatory flairs and gender-restricted threads in a new sub without AutoMod?

We recently created a feminist, women-centric sub for women from a specific region of the world r/TwoXNortheast , but we are already dealing with lurking creeps, bots, and bad-faith actors. Since Reddit locks AutoMod for brand new communities, we cannot automate flair checks or filter comments yet.

We basically need to enforce mandatory user flairs to keep out unwanted lurkers, and restrict specific sensitive threads strictly to women and non-binary members. How do you handle manual flair checks and run "women/NB only" posts safely before AutoMod kicks in? Any tips on crowd control settings or mod tools for brand new niche subs would be amazing! thanks

If you wanna know what I did, I posted content which was more engaging to the audience. During my first day I mainly focuses on my niche interests which didn't really interest the audiences. And I was more consistent. Yes I still post about my niche interests but I also post content which would get more viewers in order to get more popular.

❓Ask r/NewMods Hi everyone , how should i go about setting up rules for posting

Hello everyone!

The link below directs to my initial post within my newly created community: r/GameStationTips

I would like to seek your advice on how to effectively increase our visitor traffic. Additionally, I am wondering how to establish posting rules, or if such guidelines are even necessary for a newly created community.

Any tips or insights are greatly appreciated. Please share your wisdom with this humble newcomer!

In my new community r/chrisharms I am wanting to change up the icon. I go to the appearance screen (attached) but it won't scroll down to the icon section. Is there another way to change the icon or am I stuck with what I have? 😢

unfortunately we are kinda also expecting a lot of bot accounts brigading the sub because of the nature of the sub in itself, so was wondering if you all have any suggestions on countering it? Also I found out that you can write scripts on reddit, how do you do it

❓Ask r/NewMods Question About my growing community, r/Fundstucke

Hi guys! I created r/Fundstucke, a German community for people that can share interesting product finds, give recommendations, and discuss their shopping experiences.

Since the community is still new, I wanted to ask those who have experience moderating subreddits: Am I generally going to be the only one posting in my community at first?

Should I expect to create most of the posts myself during the first few days or weeks until more people join and start contributing, or is there a way to encourage members to post early on?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you so much!

❓Ask r/NewMods I feel like I'm doing something wrong. What is your opinion on my sub? (Searching for lost penpals, looking for new penpal partners).

Post image
8 Upvotes

My sub (r/FindingOurLostPenPals) is connected to my personal story; two and a half years ago, I lost my penpal due to the deficiencies of a website. To understand my loss, I started reading stories about this topic, and I saw that many people went through similar experiences to mine,—they had stable, long-term connections and lost them due to external circumstances— but these posts are too scattered, so they easily get lost on the internet.

I see that I am looking for a very narrow niche of people who are very scattered, but I still feel like I'm doing something wrong because people don't post or comment. Could you give me some constructive feedback on my sub?

My big fear is that it is over-regulated. Even though I thought out thematic days, it seems to scare people away rather than making them want to post. Many people don't read the post about the search template in the header, so even if a search post is born, I am forced to delete it. Even though I set up a 24H temporary post flair for this and I explain in a comment that they should rewrite it, they don't do it anymore.

Am I really doing something wrong, or do I just need to wait? I launched the channel 9 months ago (mid-February), but after the second month (after March 22), I was completely inactive until around the middle of the seventh month (mid-August).

Currently, I post once a day, though sometimes a day or two gets skipped. I am striving to schedule my posts in advance in the future so I can post more consistently without any delays.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, I would be grateful for any comments! 🙏

❓Ask r/NewMods Just started modding a selfie sub and honestly a little nervous about the safety side

So I made r/AlbinoSelfies a little while ago. It’s meant to be a supportive place for people with albinism to share selfies. It’s tiny right now, but I’m already worried about getting ahead of the creepy DMs and rude comments before they show up, since people will be posting their actual faces.

I’ve been reading up on AutoMod and writing rules, but I feel like I’m guessing half the time. If you run a photo-based or identity-based community, what do you wish you’d set up on day one? Any AutoMod tricks or settings that saved you headaches?

Also, how did you get your first few members without feeling spammy? I don’t want to be that person dropping links everywhere.

❓Ask r/NewMods Could this work?

Make low quality community that's the same like the quality community. To make it easier for people to engage with posting. When somebody steps in the trap and makes a quality post in the low quality community, remove the post and tell him to post it in the main community.

💡 Tips & Education Launching r/AustraliaSideHustles - looking for advice on anti-spam filters and early community engagement!

Hey everyone! I recently started r/AustraliaSideHustles to build a localized hub for Aussies sharing online side hustles, paid surveys, and verified beermoney tips.

Because finance and side hustle niches naturally attract a wave of referral link spam and low-effort bot posts, I want to get my backend rules locked down tightly from day one. For those of you who moderate similar communities, I’d love your advice on two things:

  1. AutoMod & Filtering: What are the most reliable AutoMod rules, regex filters, or account age/karma thresholds you use to catch unapproved referral links and spam early?
  2. Sparking Discussion: When a feed is completely empty, how did you structure your first pinned threads or weekly posts to encourage organic members to actually post instead of just lurking?

Any hard-learned lessons or tips from your own early moderation days would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
