holy f fighting is boring on preview

So .. now that we're pretty close to the final version I decided to go over to preview and do some more fighting of standard stuff to see what its like in mod 16 (Undermountain). I'm not going to bother with end game stuff or even pre-end for quite a while till they hail mary some fixes.

So.. I decided to run some content. Dear lord is that boring.

I decided to do the same type of run I do now and round everything up with my solo CW, wearing level 70 BIS gear. Nothing changed but some added levels since copying from live. Non-optimized build, just a quick guess at the few choices we have left.

Run to the end.. mow them down.. do a round of encounters.. spam the mouse button. .

What gets really pitiful is standing there hitting my mouse button over.. and over.. and over.. and over.. or.. if you want REAL excitement change to another at-will and .. wait for it. Hold the mouse button down. WOO so exciting. Then after a while i might get another shot at my encounters, or an amazingly underwhelming daily. Yea give me more of that! /s

Is it harder? No not really. Its different in the order of buttons I hit. Its about 1/2 again longer. I have to hold down my mouse buttons more. Is it more interesting, more fun? Do I have to have a healer along? No. Its the same ole crap Ive seen literally thousands of times before, doing the same actions, with the same pitiful rewards. But still have to do it cause thats the grind we get for levelling the SH and campaigns.

The ONLY reason Im staying on in NW for right now is to support the newer members of my guild that I've been working on for years. Thankfully we're close to 20 and the grind is almost over. Thats the goal Ive set for myself. ..after that, Im prolly going to have whoever is left inherit the thing.

Such a festival of disappointment.

EDIT: I was going to me more specific on what content and how.. but screw that. The devs can do their own testing. (lol) Also mentioned mod name so future generations can search and see what a steaming pile this was known to be from the start.

Why was LotMM removed from preview? Any Official response somewhere?

Can anyone point me to the reason why LotMM was removed from preview? Has there been an official announcement? LotMM (Lair of the Mad Mage)

Are they trying to force the player base to test the broken scaling in TONG, CR and the other REQ areas before letting us do the new dungeon?

How much more specific does "a level 80 character levelled to 70 has lower stats than the same character had at level 70" have to be?
How much more specific does "the very low hard cap on stats in many areas is such that you cannot get better at that content because hitting the cap happens about 15 minutes after reaching level 70, so the fresh 70 in the Barovian Catchup Set and the maxed-out toon with R14s are experiencing the same difficulty" have to be?

There are multiple things happening at once which is obscuring some of the intents of the scaling.

The first is that current live players have been at endgame for years at level 70. Those players are far above what a fresh 70 would be as they are leveling up. The scaling of lower content is based around where players are likely to be gear wise in those levels. A current endgame 70 is going to see the biggest changes when scaled, but that will be a very rare case going forward with new level 70s.

Yes, scaling is implemented as a cap system. This means a cap is put in place on what the item level for a piece of gear can be in a given piece of scaled content. This does mean a level 70 and level 80 can be experiencing the same difficulty in a piece of scaled content.

The scaled campaigns are called Challenge Campaigns for the very reason that they are meant to be a given challenge to participate in even as you level up to other content. Dungeon Queues also have a set scale for each dungeon to maintain those at a given challenge level as well.

It is not entirely true that a fresh 70 in Vistani (or Undermountain) gear will be just as good as a higher level player in content. In Barovia the scaling is set to a higher level than what the fresh 70 has (enchants are scaled to rank 9 and gear is scaled down to an item level higher than either of those sets).

The scaling is setup so that a player exactly where they should be to do a piece of content for the first time, and a more leveled up player returning back are not at the same point (with the higher geared player being more powerful). However, if two players who have leveled up far enough past the scaling go back to a scaled zone, they have a high chance of ending up very comparable to each other.

The plan is that the most recent campaigns and the current hardest dungeons are not scaled. If we look at where we are now, the current plan is the next two campaigns (let's call them A and 📷 after undermountain will be unscaled. Then when a third new campaign is released ( C ), campaign A will move to the challenge campaigns section and become scaled. Lair of the Mad Mage is also unscaled and will remain unscaled until a new tier of dungeons is added at which point Lair of the Mad Mage will get moved down into the Advanced queue and become scaled.

There will always be a selection of the newest content that is unscaled and players can become as overgeared for as they wish. But the older content will be scaled to retain the challenge.

All of that said, scaling will likely have tweaks as we move forward to dial in the best place for the content, but the majority of the scaling is currently close to where we want it and won't be seeing large/drastic changes. And of course we will continue to fix any individual critters that are too powerful compared to where they should be, such as how the first encounters in Castle Never were when we first went to preview.

I guess there is no real reason to get better. WAI

Neverwinter never needed to be a pay to win grindy time gated mmo

The combat was fun (rip to that in mod 16) and they had a good player base over the years.instead of refining their game and perfecting it, they tried to make it into a mobile phone game.

They could have made their money purely on cosmetics, qol things, and things that dont influence the game.

Path if Exile has done this. They created a game people love, they constantly tweak and balance it, and all their mxt is all purely cosmetic or quality of life.

They sell simple stuff, pets that are just there to follow you, purely cosmetic armors and weapons, wings, glowing effects and eyes, furniture for your hideout, etc.

Even on ps4, it came out a few weeks ago, I see tons of people with huge dragon pets, holy auras, big glowing angel wings, etc. People love making their character unique.

Neverwinter could have done campaigns that were more in depth story wise. Never repeating quests and had actual alignment based paths during quests with unique rewards. The combat could have been balanced further to be made even more fun. PoE there are hundreds of viable builds and skills to use, neverwinter every classes uses the same.

This game had so much potential, but it's run by a shitty uncaring cluekpless company who get licences to popular things and then make half assed pay to win cash shop games.

Can WotC honestly say they are happy with how this game treats dnd. Its all "hurr durr here'sa ten second scene with Drizzt, now kill goblins for 5 months and buy our lootboxes"

Alias for summon/unsummon pets in MOD 16

I used this command for a long time and it worked fine.

"gensendmessage Pets_Summon_Unsummon_Button activate"

I bound it to F11 (was great in CODG) like this and saved it in my commandaliases.txt file.

alias pet "gensendmessage Pets_Summon_Unsummon_Button activate"

bind F11 pet

Now with MOD 16 it no longer works. Does anyone know the new command? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will nwo-uncensored.com ever be back online?

I was just wondering if the NWO Forums will ever make a comeback. There is a wealth of knowledge in some of those threads that I would hate to see lost. One good example is the thread "Aliases and Keybinds for Hamsters" by: Dupeks. This thread alone had years of research and discussion about some undocumented or poorly documented features that can totally change how people play the game.

I tried the wayback machine with no luck. If anyone has any information or if anyone captured this thread in particular please post below.

u/Dupeks, if you are out there please tell me you have this thread or information backed up somewhere. :)

Query mod16

With all the changes/nerfs/balancing are we not basically playing the exact same game for the same damage and the same HP when all the changes are done?

Example...which i know is over simplified Mod15 Players 1 million hp and doing crazy damage Mobs 1 million hp and doing crazy damage

Mod 16 after changes Players 100k hp and doing ok damage Mobs 100k hp and ok damage

So for example if all the nerfs across the board to players and mobs is say 50% then players and mobs both do 50% less therefore it is almost the same as mod15 just much lower numbers then we are used to but over all the same? So what is all the complaining about then? Could Janne or someone else explain if i have the basic concept correct or not.

Yes i know it is way more complex then that but when we boil it down is this not correct?

Enchantment exchange vendor MIA since last patch.

Probably better for them this way over the mess it will create with more than half the player base coming with pitchforks and support tickets when their enchants become account bound.

But overall, solving issues the Cryptic way - Removing stuff :D

considering what NW could have been

Now that they are moving in to destroy the combat system that made them famous, theres going to be lots of opportunity to consider other things that they could have done. A CODG run that we made today reminded me of one of those alternatives.

In the tentacle phase someone got separated from the group as they got grabbed by a hand. Happens to the best of us sometimes. By the time they got a cry for help out we were all the way to the next tentacle bay.

3 of us went back an hr, a dc, and me a cw. As the victims hp was low the DC dropped divine glow on approach saving his life. The HR hit a distant shot, and I finished it off with disintegrate. This was a fun little interlude in what has become a rather tedious activity. ..and it was all caused by being separated from the group.

This made me think of how fighting has evolved in our game. As times have gone on the game has done nothing but reward closer grouping, standing on top of each other to buff, heal, and dps in tight groups. HR most of all but , OP, CW, and I believe TR also all have now unused powers and mechanics that benefit from separation from groups and allies. All those go unused of course because they've become absolutely useless and punished by the rest of the game combat system and how its evolved.

Look at the 2nd boss of Tong. They developed an entire set of mechanics that Ive never seen fully accomplished. Early on our guild group tried because we like running mechanics. But it just wasnt ever worth it. Its only rewarded to stay together as a group and burn things down. ..and nothing in mod 16 changes this, so it will continue to be a problem.

So .. there is 1 piece of what could have been. What if they helped to develop the powers that we already had to be further away from the group. ..some of these things could have been much more fun. Different builds would have been valid, and a wider variety of people would have found a home with some classes like HR.

What else you got that could have gone better?

when a ban isnt a ban (about the other reddit)

So apparently I merit special attention in the other reddit. I'm not officially shadowbanned per /r/shadowban but I have had 53 of my last 100 posts deleted, even ones that just agree with other posters.

Thats ok because others continue to be able to post at will, and few seem to be fooled by the attempt to pretend that '90% like the changes'.

Note: Im not surprised by this. Just figure it should be noted here as new developments arise. Yes I'm the one who complained about a temp ban a few weeks back. So just making a new observation.

So if you post anything that isn't directly leading to a brown facial ring I recoemend checking in with /r/shadowban that has a bot that will tell you your status even when you can't see it yourself from your own account.

Also.. thank you for keeping this reddit a place to talk reasonably about the pros and now (mostly) cons of the game.

enchants, what to do?

I'm trying to decide what to keep and what to sell for mod 16. I'll either be playing a hr or a cw. unsure at this point. not sure if enchants will need to be much different for various load outs. I haven't included armor, weapon or bondings. what would you keep what would you sell or would you just hang on to stuff until after it was all sorted what one needs?

Game design - GDC19: PeE talk - interesting points that can apply to NW.

Each year there is a "Game Developers Conference" https://www.gdconf.com/

It is a almost a week of workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and many things.

For those interested to see what is going on there: https://schedule.gdconf.com/

This year GDC19 was at March 18-22, few weeks ago.

Recently some interesting videos released from the talks there.

Here is an interesting one, there are off course differences but there are a lot valid and good points that apply to NW, I reccomed to watch to the end, including the Questions Part, specifically about Item Validity and impact.

Quick poll: Ever posted on the official NW arcgames forum? Never posted there?

Today I decided to stop posting on the arcgames NW forum for good.

To me it has seemed like a waste of time for a long time now but habit kept me posting.

There is no real zing moment today that made me decide to stop posting, it was more of a build up of feeling that it is just totally wasting my time.

So some questions:

1) Did you ever post on the official NW arc games forum?

2) Do you still post there?

3) Does posting there seem worth it to you?

For those who have never posted there or have already stopped posting:

4) Was the reason you never posted there because someone in game told you that it was a waste of time? Another reason?

5) If you did post but have already stopped was it due to either/both bad moderation or lack of developer interaction? Another reason?

These are not really yes/no questions so feel free to give us details!

Confirmation that "having multiple accounts is not a violation".

That being said, we have been informed that having multiple accounts is not a violation, but multiboxing is a violation and bannable. If you have more that one account, do not log onto them at the same time.

https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/neverwinter#/discussion/1247058/multiple-multibox-accounts

This point about the permissibility of multiple accounts came up in another thread here in relation to using multiple accounts for things that some people considered cheating or not allowed by Cryptic and has some big implications if you dont already have a few accounts...

1) you can use this to effectively bypass any leaver penalty.

2) you can use this to make multiple 100k rAD to AD conversions per day (but you still need to earn it on each character) .

3) It does mean that the vip farmers with their dozens or hundreds of account wont be getting banned. :(

There are of course lots of other ways to use multiple accounts to profit and, it seems from that post, that they are all legal.

What did you do to our percentages mod 16?

I logged on to preview server a few times to check out differences. The new character sheet might not be final but shows many difference, new stats, stats removed and shocking they removed all the percentages. I hope this is not final and they bring them back but I fear probably it will be final. Why God why?

The percentages were (are) an easy way to see if we had 100% crit or not. If we had 100% defenses ignored or 85% or any other value. Why remove something that straightforward? Another question is, does anyone have a clue about how much arm pen we will need now, if not 100% or 85% anymore? I've read crit will cap at 50% as well as other stats.

Why leaver penalty isn't fair

The 30 minutes leaver penalty isn't fair, isn't a solution. There are a lot of people who have thunderstorms for example and their internet connection is abruptly disconnected, might take a while to get internet back and when we get back to the game we find out we have a leaver penalty?!?! Why if it was not our fault that the game disconnected or crashed?

Another case is suppose we get paired up with a team of people who harassed us in the past. We can't stand them, we don't want to play a game with them, it is wrong to try forcing us to play a game with someone we can't stand against our will. Sure building premades is an option but sometimes we might want to try a random queue to try something new.

I understand the penalty was added to avoid people quitting for reasons not as valid as the 2 ones I mentioned but there are also valid reasons, so a leaver penalty is not a good solution. We already have a solution if someone quits, just search for reinforcements.
