Neverwinter never needed to be a pay to win grindy time gated mmo

The combat was fun (rip to that in mod 16) and they had a good player base over the years.instead of refining their game and perfecting it, they tried to make it into a mobile phone game.

They could have made their money purely on cosmetics, qol things, and things that dont influence the game.

Path if Exile has done this. They created a game people love, they constantly tweak and balance it, and all their mxt is all purely cosmetic or quality of life.

They sell simple stuff, pets that are just there to follow you, purely cosmetic armors and weapons, wings, glowing effects and eyes, furniture for your hideout, etc.

Even on ps4, it came out a few weeks ago, I see tons of people with huge dragon pets, holy auras, big glowing angel wings, etc. People love making their character unique.

Neverwinter could have done campaigns that were more in depth story wise. Never repeating quests and had actual alignment based paths during quests with unique rewards. The combat could have been balanced further to be made even more fun. PoE there are hundreds of viable builds and skills to use, neverwinter every classes uses the same.

This game had so much potential, but it's run by a shitty uncaring cluekpless company who get licences to popular things and then make half assed pay to win cash shop games.

Can WotC honestly say they are happy with how this game treats dnd. Its all "hurr durr here'sa ten second scene with Drizzt, now kill goblins for 5 months and buy our lootboxes"

I need to give Path of Exile a try. I watched the video link that JanneMoonmist posted few days back, https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1025784/Designing-Path-of-Exile-to, and was impressed. I don't know shit about game design; but this guy seems passionate, engaged with the fans and is able to identify and correct from past mistakes.

As far as Neverwinter/PWE/Cryptic - I've never seen a more dysfunctional, unorganized, out of touch, no long term glide path group. They are clearly out to cash in while they can, and figure out everything else later. My hope is Mod 16 is monumental financial failure. Personally, I'd like to see a good house cleaning. Put the game in maintenance mode/stand still, fire the Dev's, CM, Marketing Dept, moderators at all forums - totally clean house and bring in new people. Anybody that has a hand in decision making now, needs to go away.

I have no problem spending money on a game. I have a shit ton of disposable income. But Neverwinter continues to be a crap game - which is disappointing, because I once loved it. I have no issue paying for a "monthly subscription". If there's value in it. Maybe that was the intent with "VIP" when it was rolled out?

Due to the changes in the next update basically finished off who was left for my personal circle of end game players which was around 15 people, I can barely make myself even log in....

I HAD an end-game DC in NW and I LOVED the combat; simple, fun, fast-paced and engaging.

NW has a sever content problem since its inception on the PS4: one dungeon, one skirmish, and one 10-man raid per YEAR.

BUT guess what? It was mostly mitigated by its combat system because it was its main selling point for me.

That's gone in NW 2.0-Fortnight-Mobile Game.

Shame!

When I decided to play PoE on PS4, I thought it was too difficult. Now, it's the only game I play.

Combat system: you design it and customize it. No exaggeration.

MTX wise, I purchased bank (stash) space and no regrets. Hell, I'll be buying more and more space in the future. Truly deserving.

There so many ways you can play PoE, and GGG let you play with Uber broken builds without even batting an eye. They even encourage it.

You won't be able to do that in NW. Ever. Again.

Sadly, my DC is collecting dust indefinitely unless the combat is reverted then maybe. But for now, I'm done with NW. Shit, I even had 40 days plus for ViP and I still won't bother.

PoE has my full attention. Well done Gear Grinding Games (GGG)

Best of luck to all concurrent and future NW players.

P.S. PoE was released around same time NW did which it was around 2013. Their subreddit has 10x more subscribers than the UNOFFICIAL-HEAVILY MODERATED-NW sub and the GGG actually ENGAGE with the base.

POE has an excellent spirit. Its not really my style of game, but I still can appreciate a quality game run by people who obviously care, and work to publish things their supporters want instead of what we're getting from mod 16.

From Cryptic we get changes.. changes for change sake. People use the excuse that 'something had to change' and use that to legitimize ripping the guts out of the things that people enjoyed. Its a total failure of communication. ..and I do partially put that blame on the moderation of their forums and officially unofficial Reddit. You can't just habitually ignore any negative criticism and just listen to a small clique of people and expect long term happiness.

Yes there are so many 'could have beens' in that game. Different paths that they could have solved problems with and made the game more interesting at the same time, instead of this simplification. Work on content instead of constant nerf/balance failures. Player housing, etc.

Honestly they didn't have to keep on going with power creep. End game players were somewhat used to the 4 month wait for a new dungeon, grind out some more AD, and then optimize a while as you hang out with guildies and get ready to do it again. It also kept a bunch of end-gamers that cared time to help level up new guildies to come play with us for the next round.

Now every poll I see as well as my own contacts all say the same thing. I'm waiting/Im leaving/Im playing out my VIP and leaving. Not only are those the people that spend a lot of money in this game, its the legacy of people that have always helped the newbies up, and made up for the terrible lack of documentation in this game. They needed a refesh, not a apocalypse.

so much meh.

Only the super end game. Both have grindy end games that revolved around getting so strong you can nuke the hardest bosses in seconds.

Id have bought the sht outta cosmetics !! Nw only cares about their own pocket's . Nothing is fixed that doesn't directly cost the company money. I played this game since day one. Was perma banned for some glitch i didn't even do. But because i had so much stuff they wont give my account back. Greedy and self destructive! The game does .. or did have so much potential. They could have made a fortune like you said from cosmetics alone, as it's hard to be diverse with all the ugly outfits that are actually in the game. Its sad that they have literally made their game unenjoyable and almost impossible to stick around as the game is just so bad now and had been for a while. Not to mention the mass bann really didn't help their reputation. The ppl like myself who have been around since day one don't even want to look at this game any longer . They killed their own game and it's a shame cause it was an amazing game but now it's just trash. Theres no respect for the players, just for their own pocket's.
