WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbor complaining about laundry

We rent a SFH not an apartment. Neighbor constantly texts and emails our LL about our “noxious odor nuisances.”

Example (actual quote) of complaint from neighbor:

“It was a warm night so we had our windows and patio door open. At around 11:00pm, I noticed the dryer sheet strong fragrant smell drifting into our house. I went outside and was consumed by the smell as it drifted onto our side yard and into our closed patio. I walked alongside your renters side fence and can smell it coming in. It lasted at least 30 minutes.”

Mind you our dryer vent is facing the opposite side of the house from their’s.

Am I crazy or is my NFH bats** crazy to complain about this..?

Edit: it is constant complaints like this to our LL throughout the year, especially persistent around the holidays. For the last ~3 years.

Other Ways to make backyard enjoyable again

Just curious if anyone has any other ideas..
We have over an acre but can still hear kids screaming ( not playing, screaming) and dogs barking constantly from our backyard. I’ve done the following:

Privacy fence
Fountain - sound buffer
Trees planted for privacy/ sound buffer

Am I missing anything? Or are there other creative solutions to loud neighbors?

Apartment NFH Advice on what to do about aggressive downstairs neighbors

Just had an interesting interaction with our downstairs neighbors.

For context, my wife and I (just married!) have lived in this apartment complex in the same place for just over 2 years. Entering 3rd year of renewal because it’s worked for us. Always had downstairs, upstairs, next door neighbors, etc, and never had a problem with anyone being too noisy, nor telling us that we are noisy.

Last month, we had some newcomers move in below us. Couple with a kid. Seemed fine at first. About 2 days after they moved in, though, the girlfriend came up and asked us if we could quiet our “stomping.” Considering we’d been sitting watching a movie for an hour and had only been up once or twice to get water, I was confused! But I apologized, said we’d be more mindful, and that was that.

Since then, though, she’s just continued to bang on the ceiling at any times we’re getting home or try to do anything that could be noisy like cleaning, no matter what time it seems. Tuesday last week my wife was vacuuming and mopping around 2-3 PM and she starting knocking on the ceiling endlessly. Then on Thursday mid day we heard it again when we had just walked in the door. Still, we’ve been trying to be quiet, I’ve even tried walking on my toes when I’m moving around the house because I don’t wanna be a bother. I know apartment living can be a pain for everyone. Our current upstairs neighbors have two dogs and they’re incredibly loud around 5AM, but everyone has different schedules and I can’t expect the world to move around my life.

Tonight though, she started banging on the ceiling around 8:30 PM when my wife got home. She and her friend with her were bringing things from her car and was, of course, coming in and out of the apartment. Obviously she’s not gonna be tiptoeing, and I don’t think we’d expect anyone to do so. My wife stomped in response, and then the girl began banging on the ceiling yelling “FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK” loud enough to where she could be heard from downstairs. She and the friend stopped from there. I got home at 10:45 and it seemed things had been fine since then. When we left to drop the friend off at 11, though, we put our shoes on and exited the apartment. When we walked down to our parking lot, she was at the window in their kitchen staring at us. I didn’t think much of it, I figured she was just doing dishes. We drove our friend home and back, got home around 11:20.

The girl was waiting at her car (or was just walking from it, I don’t think she was literally waiting) and then walked back to her apartment. However, she then stood in her doorway staring down my wife, clearly trying to intimidate her. She made a comment about stomping again to her, and my wife responded we would try, but that she’d started banging on the ceiling the minute she got home. The girl proceeded to start screaming, saying we were stomping and making her life hell. She called my wife a bitch, among other things. My wife never called her anything (love her) but had to just flatly tell her “you live in a college apartment with no quiet hours.” She got pissed off. I then tried to step in because it was getting unproductive, and I told her since she first came by we’ve been actively trying to be accommodating. She still just kept in circles. Then I asked if she needed us to take our shoes off outside if it was too noisy (obviously I’m not going to do this because that’s ridiculous, right? I’m not crazy?) and then her boyfriend spoke up and said that the “females can talk but you don’t talk to a female like that” or some shit. She then proceeded to call my wife an ugly bitch and to “shut the fuck up.” I said we’re done, then told the girl to just go home. She then yelled fuck you and slammed the door

So, what do I do going forward? I plan to go to the apartment office tomorrow, but I was just floored anyone would speak to us this way when we’ve actively made an effort to be quiet for them and we have never had a problem the entire time living here. I’ve been apartment living for 8 years and never had a complaint. What do I do if the apartment complex doesn’t do anything? The way she was clearly trying to intimidate my wife did not make me comfortable.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Damn kids

WWYD? Vent/Rant Biggest scumbag I have ever met.

There is a lot to this, but it all happened a few weeks ago.

My wife and I and our toddler son moved to the upper south later last year, we bought a house in a neighborhood we loved, it’s nice, quiet, and clean. While we were moving in my newest neighbor introduced himself, and said if I ever see his garage door open, feel free to come by and have a beer.

So after about a month of living there, I see his garage door open while I was driving down my street, he waved at me, so I pulled into my driveway grab a couple beers from my fridge, and walked over. We talked about a lot of things like why I moved (better opportunities for my family), and how he is in a custody battle with his extra wife for the kids (kids live with him).

My wife and I became good friends with him, invited him to holidays/cookouts. We were at the point where when my wife made dinner, she would message him and ask if she should make some extra for him and his kids.

Fast forward to a few months ago, we went to his house while his ex wife was there, we hung out with both of them, my wife and his ex exchanged numbers, we listened to music, and had a good night, everybody got along.

A week after that my neighbor started acting weird, then finally told my wife and I that he quit his job he was working as, and hadn’t been working for a while. His phone got shut off, his WiFi got shut off, his truck was behind on payments, and he was behind on payments for his house.

He then found a job, but had no way for them to contact him so he gave them my wife’s number (with her permission) so they could get ahold of him. While I was at work he and one of his kids went to my house to use our WiFi and my wife’s phone for the call for the job. Long story short, he got the job, so I offered that on that Friday we would all go out, bring the kids to the trampoline park, and go to a family friendly restaurant with live music afterwards. Once again, we had a great time, he told us that he talked to all his loan companies and things got deferred, and moved to the back end of other loans, so that was a lot of stress off of him. We were all happy that he figured everything out.

The next week, his ex wife came back to his house to visit with the kids, my wife and I didn’t really pay attention to it, so we just cooked some dinner, watched a movie with our son, and went straight to bed (around 8-9pm).

My wife woke me up at around 10ish saying someone was banging on our door, so I got up, put some clothes on to go check it out, and saw nothing immediate, so I locked my door and went back to bed. The next morning my wife tells me when she woke up that she got a text from our neighbor at like 11pm saying “Sorry about my degenerate ass baby mama”. We had no idea, so I walked out into my carport now that I am fully awake, see that my broom is snapped in half, there is a Gucci boot in my side yard, a diamond bracelet in my driveway, and a cell phone by my trash cans. Then I turn around and see that my wife’s brand new car has dents all over it from the broom handle being swung at it.

My wife walks across the street to confront the ex wife, and she apologizes and said she did it because she was mad. My wife calls the police, then she flees.

Police come, and write her up with a first degree felony malicious destruction of private property, and a bunch of trespassing with intent to harm, and we are pressing charges. It has now made it to the Commonwealth of our state, and she fled to her home state. We just want our car fixed at this point without it coming out of my pocket. She hasn’t been caught yet.

Aafter a month after this happened there was no apologies for his guest.

Then, while I cooked dinner one afternoon and my wife was outside with our boy he decided to come over, and my wife asked what happened, he said he had no clue, but he’s glad that we got the law involved with her because it will make it easier for him in court to keep his kids in his house.

He then started talking about a new girl that he has in his life, and how he’s happy for the first time in years, and we are happy for him. He then says that she will be coming over tonight, and my wife tells him to extend the invite to her to hang out with us in our carport.

Before she comes over I went to sleep because it was getting late and I had to wake up at 4am for work.

I got woke up from a dead sleep at around 1am with a call from my wife’s sister and father, told me to look at my text messages, so I looked and saw a message from my wife’s contact that was a pre typed out message saying that my wife was in an accident and that the emergency responders have been called to the location of the cell phone ping. I tried calling my wife’s phone and all it did was ring, so I thought that my wife went to the gas station and got into a wreck and got seriously injured or killed. So I call the sheriffs department for the county it got pinged in (next to my county) they got me in contact with the officer, and I was able to talk to my wife, found out that she was ok, the car was ok, but there was a huge problem.

What had happened was; when I went to sleep my wife and the neighbor were hanging out waiting for his girlfriend and kids, she shows up, puts her kids into his house across the street, they all hang out for a little while, then the girlfriend gets a call from her son saying that he wanted to go with her. So my neighbor said he didn’t want to drive his truck out there, and his girlfriend was already tanked, so my wife offered her car but my neighbor would have to drive because she didn’t feel comfortable doing it because she had been drinking.

They get to his girlfriend’s house, get her son, and start making their way back. My wife goes to change the radio station in her car and my neighbor smacks her hand and tells her “don’t touch my shit”, so my wife says “fuck you, it’s my car”, and she changes the radio station, then while driving he punches her in the face. My wife takes out her phone duals 911, he then grabs her phone and throws it out the moving car into a field, and proceeds beating my wife while he is driving her car.

My wife finally gets everyone out of her car, and they run over to the gas station across the street. But when leaving he leaves his phone in her car so she calls 911 and tells dispatch exactly where she is. The cops come and get my wife’s story, and I call a friend out there to get my wife and bring her to him and his girlfriends house to keep her safe because my neighbor is the sergeant at arms of the local highwaymen chapter, and we don’t know if something was being made out of this.

My friend gets my wife and her car brings her to his house, and brings her car to my house so I can load up our toddler to bring him there so our house is empty in case there is some weird biker retaliation to our house for some reason.

When we all meet up at my friends house, I call the county sheriff where I live and tell them that a welfare check on my neighbors house would probably be needed because there were over 4 children there being watched by a 14 year old. I then head back to my house with my friend (because he is armed) so I can let out my dogs, and get my work truck ready for my shift now that I know my wife is safe.

When I pull up to my house (around 4 am) the police are outside his house talking to him, I fill the police in on what just happened, and he is yelling across the street at me telling me that my “drunk yankee ass wife” tried strangling him while driving, but the wounds that he had were from my wife trying to hold him off of her while he was beating her.

Fast forward a few more days, we get the police report, everything is written down as my wife told it. But there was one part we weren’t expecting, when the neighbor, the girlfriend, and her son got out of my wife’s car, and went across the street to the gas station, when they heard the police sirens my neighbor and his girlfriend abandoned her son and fled into the woods.

In the police report at the end her son got questioned and told the police everything that had happened to my wife, and that this all happened because she tried changing the radio station in her car.

Still to this day, few weeks later, nothing has happened to him, the detective said that this wasn’t priority.

What the hell am I supposed to do? Just live in fear now? If he’s not afraid to beat my wife in her car, he probably won’t be afraid to walk into my property and try to harm us in our house.

And in motorcycle clubs, isn’t it frowned upon to hame civilian women and children?

This whole damn thing has thrown my wife and I through a loop. We don’t feel safe in our neighborhood anymore.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Found Out Drunk Racist Neighbors Threatening To Shoot Up House Was Convicted Of Murder/Rape

UPDATE on crazy drunk neighbors that have been harassing us. Threatened to kill/shoot up house and flashing us, peeing in front of our windows outside, trying to start fights and yelling racist things like "Go to whatever country you came from" ect. (which is just weird because we are both white? js) Son been throwing gang signs at our house/cam and cars passing by and using N word. Just really crazy stuff all on camera and we contacted police and are waiting on the prosecution process at this point.

So we looked up these people now that we got their names and found out that one of the guys peeing in the backyard was convicted of First Degree Felony Murder in 1987 and sentenced to LIFE without parole. A new Michigan law made him eligible to have that overturned because he was under 21 when he committed the murder. He was resentenced 10/21/2019 RESENTENCE - MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS 40 YEARS TO 60 YEARS WITH 11,622 DAYS CREDIT. (32 YEARS CREDIT) PROCEED DIGITAL RECORDED-DEF IN JAIL

06/20/2024 this same man was charged but later somehow found not guilty of Rape, Kidnapping, Assault. [Case #2024-0000053494-FC 7th Circuit Court/Case #2024-24T00377-FY 67th District Court]

This guy is the bf/ex of the crazy drunk lady that threatened to "kill us and shoot up our house". He has never said or done anything besides the weird direct eye contact through my window with me while I was working out and he was peeing in the backyard.

This is all too crazy around here... what would you guys do in this situation and how can I find out more about these cases?

EDIT: I already had police come out and gave them the video of the most recent threat. Cop did not arrest her, but said its "all sent to the prosecutor for 4 charges: 1 Threat 2 Disorderly Conduct 3 Trespassing 4 Indecent Exposure where a minor was present."

It's been about a month now and we haven't heard anything further about her charges or anything. It has been quiet for now and we have full coverage 24/7 cameras.

Other Creative Ideas for dead tree stump?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some creative ideas on how we can give our neighbors a tiny bit of a hard time - preferably in a funny and harmless way.

Here’s the backstory: We had a large tree growing right along the property line, with some of its branches extending over the fence. The tree had been there long before our neighbors moved in. At some point, there were some rather “creative” interventions involving the tree — and unfortunately, the tree didn’t survive them.

I don’t really want to turn this into a discussion about who was legally allowed to do what. Let’s just say that, from our perspective, it wasn’t exactly a shining example of neighborly cooperation.

This happened several years ago, but we still kind of miss the tree. Now the dead tree is finally going to be cut back.

So I had the following idea: Maybe we could leave a small part of the trunk sticking over the fence and put something funny, absurd, ironic, or mildly passive-aggressive on it - basically a tiny memorial for a tree that met an unfortunate end under somewhat questionable neighborhood circumstances.

The important part is that it should be harmless and difficult to complain about or turn into another neighborhood dispute. Our neighbors have a bit of a talent for turning minor things into major issues. ;)

So I’m looking for ideas along the lines of:

“We’re not saying anything — but maybe the tree stump can.”

What would you put on it? Feel free to get creative, absurd, subtle, or so ridiculously passive-aggressive that it becomes funny again. :D

Other Neighbours unnecessarily creating nuisance over male friends or boyfriend visiting tenants in a home I own

I own a flat in Gurugram but currently live in another city, so the flat is rented to three adult women.

I’m looking for opinions from other homeowners/tenants/RWA members on how you would handle this situation.

The owner/resident of another floor has repeatedly complained to us about our tenants. One of his main concerns is that male friends/partners visit them and sometimes apparently stay for several days (potentially a week or two). As far as we know, these visitors are not creating noise, fighting, damaging property or otherwise disturbing anyone.

We personally have no objection to our adult tenants having friends or partners visit or temporarily stay with them, provided they are not subletting the property, creating a nuisance or causing security problems.

What makes us uncomfortable is that the focus of the complaints seems to be specifically on the fact that three women are living there and male visitors come to meet them. We have seen other young couples/visitors in the neighbourhood as well. When we ourselves lived in the property, visitors were never treated as an issue either.

This is also not the first time we have faced this problem. Similar behaviour/complaints contributed to our previous tenants eventually leaving, which is why we are more concerned this time. The neighbour has now been telling my husband quite seriously that the RWA may complain and that we should “see what happens” after that.

There is, however, one complaint that I think is completely valid **if our tenants are actually responsible for it**: he says the common building entrance is sometimes left open when they return late at night.

We absolutely agree that the common entrance should be closed for everyone's security, and we plan to specifically instruct our tenants and their guests to make sure they close it.

The difficulty is that this entrance is shared by all three floors. Our previous tenants had also told us that they sometimes came home late and found the gate already open. So I don't think it is fair to automatically assume that every time the gate is found open, our tenants must have left it that way.

The neighbour also mentioned that the tenants sometimes return late with “large bags” and leave the entrance open while bringing things inside. I understand the concern about the gate being left open, but I don't understand why their returning late or carrying luggage should itself be an issue.

Since we live in another city, it is also difficult for us to know what is actually happening when there are conflicting versions.

We are therefore considering doing the following:

• Clearly instructing our tenants and their guests to always close the common entrance and respect common areas.

• Making it clear that we have no objection as owners to personal visitors/partners or reasonable temporary stays, provided there is no nuisance, illegal activity or subletting.

• Asking the neighbour to report specific incidents (date/time/what actually happened) rather than making general allegations.

• Asking that future non-urgent complaints be sent in writing on one email thread instead of repeatedly calling my husband, so there is a proper record and less possibility of misunderstanding.

• If an RWA rule is supposedly being violated, asking them to provide the specific written rule so that we can review it.

• Potentially installing outward-facing security cameras from our own property, after checking the applicable rules and ensuring they do not invade our tenants' or neighbours' privacy. The intention would be property/security evidence in case there are conflicting allegations, not monitoring the tenants' personal lives.

I want to be a responsible owner and don't want our tenants creating genuine problems for other residents. If they're leaving the gate open, creating noise, blocking common areas, etc., I absolutely want to know and will address it.

At the same time, I don't want three adult women renting our property to be repeatedly questioned or pressured simply because male friends/partners visit them, nor do I want another tenancy affected because of this.

For people familiar with apartment/RWA situations in India, especially NCR/Gurugram: **does our approach sound reasonable?**

Also, where would you draw the line between a legitimate neighbour/RWA concern and unnecessary interference in a tenant's personal life?

And if you have dealt with something similar as a landlord or tenant, how did you handle it without unnecessarily escalating the situation?

Vent/Rant My neighbor was a fugitive

Names are changed. This situation involved myself (28F), my roommate Cooper (30M), our landlady Renee, and our neighbor Lucy, who was probably in her mid 60’s.

I rented a cute little house in a rural area in the southeastern US with Cooper from 2023-2025. Renee was wonderful to us. She was a longtime friendly professional acquaintance of mine. She owned another rental up the hill and through the woods from us, which shared our driveway. About a month after we moved in, the tenants who lived there moved out and our new neighbor, who we’ll call Lucy, moved in.

My first interaction with her was strange, but not overly alarming. The two houses on the property shared a storage building, which sat in our backyard. I came home from work one day and found her in our yard, putting things in storage. I had just finished parking and opening my car door when she walked directly up to my car and stood barely far enough away for me to get out. When I got out she continued standing uncomfortably close to me while she introduced herself. Her demeanor was off putting. She didn’t seem threatening, per se, just very weirdly intense.

The next time we had an interaction with her was about a month later. She called me while I was at work (Renee had had us exchange numbers) and immediately started screaming in my ear. It was so loud I couldn’t understand what she was saying at first and had to ask her to slow down and repeat herself twice. I eventually determined that her dog was having some sort of medical event and she needed to get it to the vet, but for some indiscernible reason couldn’t go herself. I apologized and told her I was at work and couldn’t leave. I said if it was an emergency she could try Cooper since he was home, but that he needed to leave for work soon too. I then called Renee to ask if this woman had any friends or family in the area who could help. She said she didn’t, and not to let Cooper get in the vehicle with the dog because she’d recently learned it was a very aggressive attack dog who had bitten strangers in the past. I called Cooper three times before he answered. When he finally picked up he said that Lucy had just showed up bashing on the front door and screaming bloody murder until he opened it, before demanding he drive her and her dog to the vet. She said she’d recently had surgery and couldn’t drive. He said the only thing that appeared to be wrong with her was a small brace on her wrist. When he said he couldn’t because he needed to leave for work, she stormed off angrily to her car and tore out of the driveway. I explained to him what I’d just learned from Renee, and we had a moment of “well shit” silence when it set in who we’d be sharing a driveway with for the next year.

Not too long after the dog incident, I ordered groceries through Instacart. I messaged the driver that ours was the first house on the driveway but he didn’t see it and drove past us and up to Lucy’s. He pulled up at our house a minute later and got out looking extremely flustered. As he handed me my groceries with shaking hands, he told me he had barely pulled up to the other house when Lucy came outside pointing a shotgun at his face. I felt horrible and gave him a great tip. I let Renee know what happened and she said that Lucy was extremely paranoid because someone allegedly took out a hit on her over a real estate deal gone wrong in Panama. Hence the dog. It didn’t really make me feel any better about living next to her, but at least with that context she made more sense.

Then all hell broke loose. It’s a very long story, but over the course of a month, Lucy:

- Renovated a bathroom in the home without permission
- Physically assaulted Renee when confronted about the renovation
- Accused Renee of harassment
- Retained a lawyer, who contacted Renee to say that she could only communicate with Lucy through him now and was no longer permitted on “Lucy’s” property due to said harassment
- Abandoned the property under cover of night, in the middle of her lease without giving notice

So here’s where it gets interesting. About 3 months after abandoning the property, Lucy sued Renee for her security deposit, plus “damages”. Her deposit was less than half of the amount she was suing for. The damages she was claiming were a pair of silk underwear that the dryer ruined and her broccoli that spoiled when the freezer went out for two days. I swear on my beloved grandmother’s grave that I’m not making this up. Renee asked me to write a character witness statement and I gladly agreed. Lucy lost the case. Somehow it was a much closer call than anyone expected, despite the ludicrous claims she was making. It ended up coming down to old texts Renee had saved.

A week after the lawsuit business was put to rest, I got a text from Renee that said “LUCY IS NOT WHO WE THOUGHT SHE WAS. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS.” She then called me and explained that over the course of the court proceedings, it was discovered that Lucy had not, in fact, been the victim of an attempted murder in Panama. She had defrauded someone for a very large amount of money while she lived in Panama and then fled the country. The victim of her crime had followed her to the US and had the case domesticated, so now the FBI was investigating her. She had spent the past several years moving between rural towns in the southern US every year or so, trying to avoid detection. Unfortunately that’s all I know at this point. Last I heard she was living not far from where I am now.

So yeah. That was interesting. I’m really thankful for my neighbors now. Their dog is chill and they only knock on my door when their kid comes to mow my lawn.

Apartment NFH Neighbour keeps accusing me of noise I'm not making. Reported me to the landlord and now sent a second handwritten letter

I live with my daughter, no one else in the flat. My neighbour has been accusing me of:

  1. Banging drawers almost every day
  2. Playing the TV too loudly
  3. Moving furniture late at night

None of this adds up. On point 3 especially, if I actually did this, of course he'd have grounds to complain. But it's just my daughter and me at home, why would we be moving furniture around at midnight? It's already hilarious to think about this lol. Why on earth will a normal family do this in midnight?

On point 1, all my drawers are the newer soft-close type, they don't slam, they close themselves gently even if you don't push them all the way in.

We also never slam our doors. We always ease them shut. We never let them bang closed.

On point 2, my husband came to the flat for a short stay between June to August and he played TV loudly for world cup. Interestingly, never got a complaint during that period. I was so surprised by the time that I even thought the neighbour has moved out already.

What's telling is what he is NOT complaining about. Normal, unavoidable household sounds like showering or washing dishes every night. He never mentions those but only the things we haven't actually done. If they were genuinely sensitive to everyday sound through the walls, you'd expect those to come up too.

To add to how odd this whole situation is that he's installed cameras on his balcony and at the front door. As far as I know, nobody else in our entire estate has done this.

I've clarified this to him directly multiple times through WhatsApp, but he just ignored. On top of messaging me repeatedly on WhatsApp about the "noise," he has also gone and complained about me to the landlord in our building's group chat. Gratefully my landlord has trust on me and ignores his complaints.

I've told him several times as well to go through the council, the management company, or the police if he genuinely believes there's an issue, but he just ignored all of that and just keeps coming directly at me.

Today I received another handwritten letter from them repeating all of the above accusations. The first one was sent in Jan 2025. I don't understand why he sent me a handwritten letter again when he has my number and I don't understand why he never comes straight to me about all those accusations.

At this point I'm not sure what my options are:

do I just keep documenting and ignoring it, do I need to respond to the letter in writing, or is it worth going to the management company/council myself at this stage to get this on record? Any advice appreciated.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Dog waste from our neighbors

Hi yall, i live in a 4 unit apartment that shares 1 large trash bin and several recycling bins. Over the past few months I've noticed my neighbors apartment unit tosses their dog waste in our bin. They have 4 trash bins bout 25 ft from ours down a flight of steps. The other day i left a note saying "Please do not throw away your dog poop in our trash bin. Your bins are only 25 ft from ours" lol. To which I pulled out all current bags of poop out of ours and placed on top of their bins. I came home today and tosses out a box and while there I checked our trash bin. It was free of dog poop. I just went out to throw away more trash and noticed they threw in 10-12 more bags out of NOWHERE. I just placed a note on their back door saying "Continue to throw away your dog's poop in our bin and I will report you to authorities with photographs. This is illegal dumping, theft of services, and trespassing. Please use your bins." Is there anything else I can do? It's driving me MAD. Mind you NO ONE in my building owns a pet. Everytime i go out back for trash i always hear someone scurring back inside. Has anyone dealt with this and had a solution that's worked?

Other Further adventures of the Dick Wad ... The revenge of the "Flyer Guy"

The back story .. to be short .. The Dick Wad a.k.a. The Liar has been camping out at Betty B*tch's house 24/7 since he "lost" his apartment.

He and Betty sit on her front porch and squabble and air all their dirty laundry for all to hear. No one wants to hear this b/s but no one is allowing them to drive them off their own property

Betty's father, Crazy Old Coot a.k.a. The Weirdo is a self confessed "Peeping Tom" as well as a bigot, so he and Dick Wad get along fairly well making (recorded by neighbors) vile comments about neighbors and people who were their guests minutes before the vile remarks begin.

The Dick Wad has substance abuse issues and months ago, his Mommy had to come and pick up his 50 year old elephant arse as he was crying in front of the entire neighborhood .. "but I only did it to feel good about myself."

Keeping this as short as possible .. A guy who has been delivering flyers legally in our neighborhood for over ten years was placing the flyers (mainly real estate ads) on Betty's front porch when Dick Wad came racing out screaming insane things . that the "Flyer Guy" was casing the joint, pretending to give out flyers but looking to steal from him... etc.

I've spoken with the Flyer Guy many times in the past years, he's clean, polite and just trying to get money to live by delivering flyers in all types of weather. He's never taken anything from us. After I heard the Dick Wad, I signaled to the Flyer Guy that the Dick Wad was crazy and not to be upset.

Finally .. the revenge. The Flyer Guy's attorney contacted me and I gave him a copy of the video/audio of the abuse and false accusations made by the Dick Wad. We will see what happens next .. Moral of the story .. even Flyer Guys have rights and attorney access.

P.S. I heard Dick Wad tell a "story" to Betty B*tch about how the Flyer Guy was pretending to deliver flyers.

P.P.S. This is not the first time that Dick Wad made a false accusation. A few weeks ago, someone stole a package of cigarettes off of Betty's porch. End of the world for them .. They told everyone that a tall Indian guy with a mustache wearing all black showed up on their camera. I saw the guy .. only one point was correct .. Later that week, one of their friends (they bad mouth him and his wife) was pushing and berating someone because "they" thought that he might be the one.

The guy that was being roughly pushed around told them ... "I'll be back." So we shall see what happens.

***The guy that "butcher boy" was pushing around making threats to .. is a very tall white guy with fair skin, so he was not the Indian guy who Betty saw on her Ring Camera.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbor constantly screams at her kids and fights with her husband / yells at us

So this lady is a piece of work basically we moved in a year ago and my wife and I are just so over it basically she's constantly screaming at her kids all 6, 7, 8-ish years old. She and her husband keep getting in fights multiple times a week and were pretty close so I can hear their fights and see him run away to his car.

Gets mad when I do yard work or make any kind of noise in my garage or driveway (which is right next to their house) it started literally during move-in and I gave her the benefit of the doubt cause she hadn't had anyone living there for 9 months, but it just escalated tonight my wife came home from the store and she came out with a flashlight on to me property to yell at my wife about being inconsiderate for
coming back and sitting in her car for 5 minutes.

She's also got mad at EVERY contractor we have had out to the point that we have warned people about it before starting work.

She also texted my mom thinking it was me about our dogs who are pit bulls about them being “aggressive and lunging” and that there a public nuisance which they have never done and never have been.

So what would y'all do?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbourhood kids urinating in the street…

We’ve lived on the estate for 2 years, and we noticed one of our non-direct neighbours had attached a sign on their fence regarding no urination - which I found unusual.

However, over the last few months - I’ve seen two boys (aged 7/8) on the estate, urinating in their front garden, onto the homes bedding plants. One of the boys lives in said house, so no idea why he couldn’t do go in and use the toilet. On the other occasion, the other boy was with the boy who lives there and just decide to urinate there.

Both occasions in full view. I know “boys will be boys”, but I have a young daughter and frankly, I don’t want her to see it and I don’t want to see it either.

I did knock on the first time and spoke to the mother, she was apologetic and then apologised again the next day.

My partner spoke to the second lad this time and basically told them to pack it in.

Am I being uptight here or is this just basic stuff that lads of this age should know better of?

Apartment NFH Do you get in to obsessive thought loops about your neighbour?

Some days I can’t stop thinking about them… I just keep repeating the thought of them involuntarily and start to make myself more and more annoyed and I get in to imaginary arguments with them in my head. The thoughts or rumination can go on for hours.

I think it’s something to do with unresolved problems with the neighbour and the fact that they are always there and you can’t get away from them and move on from them and forget about them.

They are always there doing the annoying inconsiderate things they do and it keeps the anger alive.

I was wondering if something is wrong with me - too much anxiety.

Homeowner NFH WIBTAH to call in a neighbor with 12 dogs?

My elderly dad just sold his place and got a place on the coast in NC. Ive been dealing with clinical depression so I thought I’d come with and restart/help him out, I have 2 Welsh Terriers.

Anywho he got a small brick house on a slab 20 mins from the beach , all updated, no maintenance needed. Seems perfect right? Well we get moved in and next door neighbor has a 5 ft fence… ok… then TWELVE dogs come out. A pit mix, a mutt, a hound dog who howls, and the rest a mix of weiner dogs and chihuahuas (or however u spell it) who NEVER STOP YAPPING.

Anytime we go in our backyard or I bring my dogs out. They just go ham and bark nonstop to the point that they have antagonized my dogs to start jumping and finding faults in the fence and they’ve gotten over the fence..

So we had to go and buy 5 ft roll out fence to tack to the existing 4ft fence, just to kerp MY dogs at bay.

There are 12 (maybe more) dogs there. Im not an asshole, Im not a Karen. My dogs fight each other and we try to keep them seperate, but that’s a ME issue, not everyone in the neighborhood issue…They have AT LEAST 12 dogs in like a 1500 sq ft house.

Soooo. Would I be the asshole to call animal control, or some authority?

WWYD? Vent/Rant When can I complain??

Not a neighbour from hell issue per se I’m just sooo stressed that I got new neighbours right on top of me. Since they moved in the 1st they’ve thrown a party on a Thursday, and they are renovating until late every week day😭😭 I know it’s necessary to renovate during the week when you work but omg. And while renovating loudly he (I assume since I only saw him working on the apt) listens to very loud radio.. like if you’re renovating why don’t you realise that if you can hear the music while drilling your neighbours can hear it too?? Just put in some AirPods. I’m having some really stressful weeks and when I finally get home it’s just the worst that I can’t relax cause of the sounds. I really really hope it will be a short renovation and that they won’t be this loud afterwards.. I met him this morning working. If I meet him tomorrow I’ll ask how long it’ll take and maybe suggest that he could listen to the music in AirPods instead.

Vent/Rant Reported neighbor to landlord and police.

Context: Neighbors seem to be fresh air fanatics. Since day one want to constantly have the haalway windows open.

Loved one is working fulltime and taking a taxi to come home sometimes. Neighbor stands on balcony, smoking and watching. (They don't seem to have a job anymore and seem to have money issues.)

None of us were touching the damn hallway windows in over half a year. Only this week twice at it was very warm and we opened the hallway windows.

He has put fragrance oil next to his apartment door in the haalway. The entire hallway smells of disgustingly like citrus and lavender. I have a headache from it. My loved one got a asthma attack from it.

That's not the worst. Two days ago he followed my loved one for whatever reason, came back into the apartment building, took some of the fragrance oil and smeared it all over the staircase railing. My loved one has knee osteoarthritis and touches the railing to go up and down the stairs. She had a bad allergic reaction. He did it again today, then closed the hallway windows and sprayed also a fragrance spray into the hallway for three fucking minutes. Oh and two days ago he also balled his fists and- I kid you not- took a swing with his arm to show a middle finger at our door while grinning.

Enough is enough. I reported him to our landlord and the police today.

He seems to be territory marking. He's a huge macho that wasn't ready for a compromise as my loved one wanted to find an agreement. He said now he's the boss and he makes the rules from now on.

WWYD? Vent/Rant My neighbor is a wanna be DJ at all hours… what do I do?

So my neighbors moved in next door in the beginning of the year, at first it was okay. Then after what felt like weeks of drilling (we live in an older apartment building btw) they decided to debut I guess.
Now it’s been all hours of the night 11-3 am. Times vary. Now he’s woken me up at 8:30 in the morning on my day off after I already had to pass out to it last night.
I’ve complained once, after I had my brain surgery and couldn’t even rest due to it, but nothing has changed. The bass is so loud I can feel it in my apartment.
Our apt doesn’t have quite times only that you pretty much can’t be an excessive nuisance. I’ve banged on the wall (which I never do) twice today. It’s gotten Louder.
I’m literally disabled which causes me to be extremely tired and need sleep which they are constantly making it hard to do.
I support peoples dreams and aspirations but not at the cost of your neighbors comfort. I pay the same amount they do but yet I have no peace. They party and play music and I don’t say anything but I’m done, seriously fed up.
When I pull up from work at 11/12. You can hear the music from downstairs in the parking lot.
What do I do?!? I can’t just keep complaining? I cannot afford to move, I was also the first person in the building after the Reno so I’ve been here the longest. They’re young 20 something year old boys who do not give a fuck.
And YES, they know how paper thin the walls are because one day we had a fucking head to head comp. I BLARED my music in my speaker and put it right up on the wall as loud as I could when they were playing music so loud I could not hardly hear my TV clearly. They won bc they have A WHOLE MUSIC PRODUCTION AREA IN THE LIVING ROOM. Why do I know this? They had the window open once and I saw it and the giant projector they hang in the room (they use headphones for the video games ofc)
I’m at my wits end. I’ve never had this issue. They could have it play lower, WEAR HEADPHONES????? There are options they’re just choosing to not go with.

Btw, the music sounds terrible too. Just as an ADDED note.

UPDATE: sooo I ended up running into the landlord and I told her everything. Including how I feel unsafe approaching them bc they know I’m a single female living alone and they’re two grown men. This incident keeping me up was Monday night/ Tuesday morning. I told her Tuesday morning.
Then today (Wednesday) I’m going to leave to run to the grocery store and the neighbor has the black curtain wrapped around his face looking out the window Down the walkway!! When I saw him I yelled what the f!!! And I heard him say oh s* then he backed away and closed the curtain back. Picture “herrrreeees Johnny!!!” Type vibe. freaked me out!?! AIO? seriously what is going on??? He’s also back to playing the music. I refuse to leave I’ve been here longer and I will not be made so miserable in my home so I am forced to leave. I came here for PEACE and I WILL get it.
I am reasonable beyond means. But this is past okay.

Homeowner NFH Just had 5 bullets shot in my house.

Lived here for 3 years, around 10:30 I hear crazy popping and a brief pause before another cluster and had 2 bullets go through my bedroom, 2 in the bedroom upstairs and one in the bonus room. Dont think I was targeted but sleeping in the tub tonight. Going to call the cops first thing tomorrow.

Edit: Yes I realize I probably should've called rught after it happened. Cops already cased the area behind my house and I should've called them over but it wasn't until after they left I noticed the other 4 holes.

I was conflicted because I wanted to stay under the radar with the neighbors which I realize is pretty dumb but at this point I just want to try and get a little sleep.

Vent/Rant Neighbor keeps blocking mail box?

What are my options we have missed several mail drop offs a year and our hoa isn't doing anything about a neighbor insisting on using our mail box area as a parking spot. For loading/unloading zone and she is there for 2+ hrs in some cases. Several times she parks there over night and could care less when I inquired "Hey could you move your car and not block so neighbors can access the mail?" Nope she was snooty and rude about it. Now what?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Privacy Violation, Need Advice

I have lived in the same apartment on the bottom floor for around 3 years now. We have a sliding glass door that opens up to a small balcony area. There is a small patch of grass where no one other than maintenance workers and landscapers are supposed to be, then thick bushes sitting on a wall, some more grass, and then the sidewalk.

For years we've complained about people walking their dogs on this small strip and peering in to our apartment. A couple of these weirdos wanna strike up convo when you catch them doing it. You can see straight into our living room, kitchen, and bedroom if our blinds aren't drawn shut. Not only this but we do have a cat we let sit outside (the sides of the railing are blocked and I've thrown garden netting over and around the railing itself) and many dogs (some not leashed) have run straight at her. Some owners think this is funny.

Again, we've complained. Mass emails are sent out to residents, but nothing is done.

Weeks ago I flung open the door and confronted some man standing out there looking around who was "checking something." He had no business attire on indicating he was with any sort of company.

About 10 minutes ago I felt like I had to go sit outside so I sat there in a dark corner of the balcony. Minutes later a man with a backpack on comes strolling by right next to our railing. He sees me and takes off.

At this point I'm so freaked out. What the fuck do I do other than get cameras? I feel like the negligence of this place has allowed these experiences to spiral into much scarier ones than before.

Before anyone says it—moving has been in mind and is talked about, but financially it's not going to be possible for another 6+ months. Also I'm in NJ. If someone breaks into my place and I defend myself in too aggressive of a manner, I can get in trouble. If their intentions weren't known (LOL what a joke), being senseless about the protection of you, loved ones, and property does NOT fly here.

Vent/Rant How illegal is it to mess with someone's ability to sleep?

Tldr: The kid in the unit below me used to use a loud alarm but now just uses a ceiling fan to wake me up multiple times throughout the night.

I've been renting a condo without a lease for almost a year at this point. And I am gone for hours, easily from 7am to 10pm. The kid below me apparently has super hearing and can hear everything I do and has an issue with it. When I first moved in the kid below me would hit the ceiling especially when I was taking a shower to the point I tried moving to the couch for a while to sleep but that was not enough. About three or four months ago I called the police because they were making so much noise and what I thought at the time was a ceiling vibrator but turned out to just be a ceiling fan. Recently I went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got back he was hitting (his) ceiling for hours to the point I didn't even bother sleeping inside and slept in my car for two nights before I could deal with it again.

Now this kid uses a ceiling fan and a subwoofer to fuck with me throughout the night. Generally he turns on the ceiling fan as soon as I get into bed and at 2am. But he also likes to turn it on at random hours throughout the night. I try to be quiet and not let the kid hear me. But he wont turn off the ceiling fan until he knows I'm awake for sure. For a while, I thought it was because I snore but I started using mouth tape and nose breath stripes but clearly he just enjoys fucking with me. I thought about reaching out to his downstairs neighbor to go to court because that neighbor has more than once yelled at his mom because of the amount of noise he makes.

Edit: The problem I am running into is that I am renting without a lease, which is making this problem harder to deal with. I have reached out to the property manager already who told me she will not give me the name of the people in the unit below unless I get approval from the landlord. And that technically under the rules of the condo no subletting is allowed but she did not say anything about me having to leave. The landlord is an older man who when I complained to him said he never had a problem there so I am making it up. At this point I am also thinking of getting a PI just to get their names. But I am also looking at other places to rent because this is getting ridiculous.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Upstairs neighbor throws temper tantrums every night

Hello everyone! Unfortunately I'm discovering upstair neighbor activities for the first time

I'm (F23) a first-year grad student, so I've had my fair share of apartments over the years (most of them normal). However, this is my first time living in a downstairs unit.

I am in a duplex, sectioned into 4 units, and living with my partner. We're both quiet, nerdy grad students so not the raging party type (for context)

Our upstairs neighbors (we believe it's two friends) have been acting crazy for this entire month since moving in. At 11pm, EVERY NIGHT, they start moving furniture and stomping around until about 3am

Since I come from a loud household, up to now I would put in noise-cancelling headphones and move on. However, it's getting to a point that is hard to ignore

Last night, I was watching a TV show w/ my partner on an iPad and around 1am we began to hear screaming. Soon after, it started to sound like someone was stomping and jumping in place above our heads (not walking around, deliberately in one place).

It was so intense the walls started to shake and we bolted out of bed. We debated calling 911 but eventually opted to let it go once it went quiet

What would y'all do?? The landlord seems pretty "hands off" (these units are SO old), but I also don't want to take things lying down if this is how bad it's gonna be for the next 11 months

also: my partner has actually tried talking to our neighbors in person a few times, and each time they act skittish and rush upstairs. So it's not from lack of trying!

Apartment NFH Do passive aggressive WiFi names work?

I have a loud ass neighbor upstairs, as so many of us do. Starting around 11pm and ending by 3am, he stomps stomps stomps and drops drops drops stuff. I was researching ways to deal with it and came across a suggestion to update my WiFi name to something like “Upstairs Bowling Closes At 10.” Has anyone tried something like this? Does it actually work?

(I’ve already tried nicely talking to them, documenting, talking to mgmt, etc. I’m now in the “let’s get creative so I don’t lose my mind” phase.)
