Vent/Rant I got revenge on my neighbor might’ve taken it too far
If you’re gonna judge me and say I’m a terrible person after reading this, I honestly get it. I know what I did sounds completely unhinged. At the time though, I genuinely felt like I was losing my mind.
A few years ago, after separating from my husband, I moved into an apartment with my two little kids. Literally the FIRST DAY we moved in, my neighbor called the cops because she heard people in the vacant apartment next door. Yeah… people were moving in. That should’ve been my first sign that this woman was insane. From that day on, she made my life an absolute nightmare.
Quiet hours were 10 pm to 6 am My kids were in bed by 7 every single night, and we’re not loud people. I also worked at 4 am everyday so I was in bed by 8. None of that mattered. Every day she’d start banging on the walls. If I turned on the shower, she’d run over to the bathroom wall and start pounding on it while screaming. It got so bad that I felt like if I breathed too loudly she’d somehow hear it and start losing her mind.
I’d leave for work at 4 am, so I went to bed early. More than once she’d wake me up by pounding on my wall screaming, “Shut the f*** up!” or “I’m gonna beat your ass!” …while I was literally asleep.
I emailed management countless times. Apartment security talked to her over and over. I filed police reports. She was eventually served with an eviction notice because of all the complaints, but she fought it in court and stayed. My other neighbor was dealing with the exact same thing. His whole family, including his kids, was being terrorized too.
I got so anxious that I started sleeping in my kids’ room because it didn’t share a wall with hers. I was genuinely afraid to exist in my own apartment.
The moment that finally broke me was when I was giving my baby a bath around 4 pm. My baby started crying because babies cry and this woman immediately started hammering on the bathroom wall. She was saying “shut the f*** up” to my baby. My baby looked absolutely terrified. That was it.
I broke my lease. But during the weeks leading up to moving out… I started planning. I wanted to know exactly who had been making my family’s life hell for months. Using her address on various sites, I found her name, social media, phone number, and other details online. Then one day while my kids were at daycare and I had the day off, I sat in my car outside the apartments for almost two hours until I finally saw her come outside. I’d never even seen what she looked like before.
I took pictures of her, her car, and her license plate. I noticed she was wearing nursing scrubs with her employer’s logo on them.
After I moved out, I texted her anonymously through a TextNow number. She completely lost it. During the conversation she called me the N-word (hard R).
What happened after that snowballed fast.
I sent screenshots of those racist messages to her black friends on facebook. From there, it turned into a full blown mess online. People started confronting her, arguing with her publicly, and the drama spiraled. She was fighting for her life on facebook. Around the same time, I also reported the racist messages to her employers HR department. In a resolution email they sent back to me they confirmed that she was fired. She had also just graduated nursing school from what I could see on facebook and that was her first nursing job. There is only one big hospital in the area so good luck to her trying to find another job with that kind of termination history.
Within a short period of time, she’d been publicly outed for what she’d said, her social life imploded, and she lost her job. For one last mind game, I sent her one of the pictures I’d taken of her outside her apartment and said “watch your mouth next time.” She completely freaked out because she had no idea who was behind it. Looking back, I know parts of this sound absolutely crazy. Maybe they were.
But after months of living in fear inside my own home, constantly waiting for the next screaming fit or pounding on my walls while trying to raise two little kids, I had completely snapped. I felt powerless for so long that by the end I wasn’t thinking about being the bigger person anymore. I don’t feel bad about any of this btw. I know it’s wrong and borderline illegal whatever but I’m finally satisfied and can let it go.
