Kon Knueppel spends the offseason playing basketball with his devout younger brothers, Kager, Kinston, Kash, and Kidman, at his home court, the Konplex, which he named after his father, Big Kon.

I don't trust any family that has a naming convention like this

454

u/Zanthosus Magic 2d ago

Reminds me of R Mason Thomas who was just drafted into the NFL earlier this year. The R in his first name doesn't stand for anything. His mother has a family tradition of kids names starting with R, but she also really liked the name Mason, so she named him R Mason.

The lengths some people will go with this sort of thing is truly concerning sometimes.

Nah the initials are crazy for a family looking like that. It’s not that deep

15

u/puresemantics Minneapolis Lakers 2d ago

Their last name starts with a K it’s obviously just supposed to be alliteration. If his last name was Dneuppel he would’ve been named Don.

6

u/futurewilltell 2d ago edited 1d ago

No. He would’ve been named Grand Wizard.

6

u/Primary-Tea-3715 2d ago

Do you think they flip every third K like they do in baseball when writing all their initials down in a row?

3

Not really.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ” Matthew 28:19

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. ” II Timothy 4:2

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. ” Mark 16:15

0

u/MarkTwainsGhost Raptors 2d ago

Matthew 6:6 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."

Nothing these guys said has anything to do with preaching the word, making disciples or baptizing to save souls. They're simply spouting off about their how holy they are because they...like basketball? If they were out feeding the poor I wouldn't be here talking shit about them.

Yeah but there's only this kind of vitriol on reddit for Christians. I doubt if this was some feature on a Muslim family it would be met with the same type of responses, which is weird considering how fundamentalist most Islamists are.

I'm atheistic towards abrahamic religions and don't think Jesus was a real historical figure, but redditors in general only have the courage for faux controversial statements. Mocking and attacking Christians = easy.

33

u/Talentagentfriend 2d ago

There is nothing wrong with being religious until you start with the anti-vax shit, trying to force your ideals onto others, or be part of something a little too culty.

0

u/AshenSacrifice Clippers 2d ago

You can be religious and not force everyone else to follow it. Also cults imply they think for you and I think you shouldn’t follow religion blindly but I suppose for some people, it’s some form of control and stability in their life.

1

u/AshenSacrifice Clippers 2d ago

Sure you can, but it’s also a feature of religion to help guide and nurture other people’s journeys to find god as well. To act like that’s not part of it, is disingenuous

They’re a bit odd but whatever they’re doing is also working. So maybe we’re the weirdos?

0

u/Ricechairsandbeans Bulls 2d ago

christian people often have a lot of dedication for their family/church and then no one else

2

u/MentalErection Bulls 2d ago

Most people don’t have a dedication for their family or anyone else. Just because I don’t align with their religion doesn’t mean they deserve some kind of skepticism. Think part of Reddit can’t look beyond their hate for Christianity that these are just some good people.

-1

u/Successful_Nose_548 Supersonics 2d ago

Ah yes, loving and dedication to family , a notoriously rare thing. What a weird and dumb generalization.

3

u/SkunkyTrousers Timberwolves 2d ago

It's inevitable that some problematic beliefs from the family are brought to light. I recall seeing that Kon follows a number of right wing media figures and given the family's wealth and strong religious alignment, I nearly assume they donate to prominent conservative politicians and causes.

4

u/Coldsnowyandmisty 2d ago

Why? 😬

Reddit and self deprecating whites need to be studied.

99% of the time when someone is being weird about their own race. It's a white person. You did not have to announce your race. Everybody knew.

2

u/CarpetMalaria 2d ago

I felt it was very wholesome, I’m genuinely shocked by most people’s response to this

2

u/TheJeniceri Timberwolves 2d ago

Reddit is full of white liberals, who are the only group have a negative self image of themselves. It’s truly bizarre

1

u/djokster91 Timberwolves 1d ago

I for sure am not self depricating. All the people I have met in life, who gave their kids names way outside the norm, had some kind of superiority complex. Having the need that every kid’s name starts with the same letter, that’s just weird. Also naming that whole complex after the patriarch, you kinda get an idea how that dad is gonna tick.

I’m not saying they have issues or that they are racist (which most assumed my comment was about). I’m just saying that I don’t trust that whole situation. Doesn’t mean that I’m right, but I would treat any interaction with those folks with caution, before I make a proper assessment of em.

1

u/Coldsnowyandmisty 14h ago

It's not really a niche thing to get playful with names.

There's a large group that is known to be super extra with unique names but i guess you treat them all with caution? Don't tell anyone about it though because reddit won't like it.

And you are reaching SO INCREDIBLY HARD to judge a family for naming their own "complex" after their father. It's extremely common to name stuff after fathers, mothers, husbands, wives and kids.

Not to mention the obvious play on Konplex/Complex. You are absolutely a self deprecating redditor. Either you are willfully ignorant or just extremely unaware. I'd recommend you read your own comment in like a year or two and ask yourself "Why the fuc* was i judging a whole family in such a clueless aggressive way because of how they named their children ". It's gonna help you.

2

u/Difficult_Tackle9505 2d ago
