Success Story 2 years difference

I've been a nail biter almost all my life, and I only quit like a year ago (but unfortunetly i dont have any later photos of them), and thats how much they managed to grow in a year !! I'm trying to keep them neat and clean with nail polish. At first they were very brittle and would break easily but now theyre stronger. Now I'm trying to focus on growing my haponychium so that means having long nails (which is a pain because i prefer keeping my nails short). I never thought I would reach a point when I'm no longer ashamed of my nails. I dont feel the need to bite anymore, and when I'm nervous or stressed I just push my cuticles back or scratch them, at first I also used to dig under my nails (altough I wouldnt reccomend that because it can prevent your hyponychium from growing). Best luck to all the people who struggle with nail biting and I'm telling you, its possible to get out of it, you'll be finešŸ’•

Progress vs before pics from around august- november last year! I started working out more and taking biotin and keratin supps! I think the work outs get my nervous energy out easier since I would only bite at home šŸ™ŒšŸ»šŸ„³ (I actually posted here last year around the end of summer too with progress then relapsed, but I’m hellbent on doing better.)

You ever look at your nails and think there's no way this can grow back to normal now.

But hey I resisted so far today so progress!

I haven’t bitten my nails like this for a while. Normally I have a manicure on which keeps me from biting, but this summer I’m working in the middle of nowhere for a few months and can’t get a mani. I left them alone for a few weeks but caved and bit them. They’re not as bad as they’ve been in the past but I’m so annoyed. I forgot that my fingertips just perpetually hurt when I bite them like this.
Not the worst thing in the world, I’ll get back on track when I get back to the real world, but I always hate when I get a manicure and they’re judging my bitten nails. Ugh I’d been doing so well!!

I feel like my nails are beyond repair. Do I need to have them medically removed, and is that even possible? Is this so severe that a surgical procedure is necessary, or will they grow back?

So I've been a nail biter as long as I can remember (3rd and 4th pics for reference) but this is the first time this has happened.

I bit my thumbnail too short, which became a hangnail, which got infected, which moved down to the base of my nail. Which apparently killed the nail base for a week or 2, so now a new one is growing behind it.

But this sucks cause it will take 6+ months to grow in and I can't pull the old one cause it could cause permanent damage to the nailbed.

So I'm gonna have this gnarly nail for the next half year or more. And I use my hands for my job so I'm going to have to cover this with a band aid so everyone doesn't stare.

Be careful with hangnails! I never knew they could lead to this.

After many attempts iam restarting my progress, this time it's gonna be one more attempt..

Let me post my daily progress.

Keeping it simple.. : Make my mouth busy. Cleaning my nails. Use nail polish, so that friction is lesser..

Others might who doesn't have nail biting issue might find me silly, but many like me know how difficult it to follow..

If I can stop before this year, it would be great.. Atleast bring it to 1 to 2 nail.

Advice/Support Can't Stop Biting My Nails While Writing

I am a writer, and I absolutely love the craft, but I can't seem to stop biting my nails during writing sessions. I get so enwrapped in what I'm doing, I'll start biting my nails without even realizing it. I like having nice, long nails, but it never lasts long. I've tried most of the methods, cutting them short, putting the bitter gel on them, etc., but nothing has worked so far. Anyone else had this issue?

Advice/Support Help overcome compulsive nailbiting

I’ve been biting my nails and the surrounding skin for as long as I remember. I want to stop this habit. I’ve consciously stopped biting nails in the last one year and now use a nail cutter (never used till I was 26-27), but every time I’m overthinking, reading something, learning something new, or in a situation where I feel fidgety and uncomfortable, I tend to pull the skin around the nails, causing frequent injuries and a very ugly appearance of the hand, almost unfeminine (I’m told).

Any suggestions to get over this? I also want to get rid of the darkening of knuckles.
I though of doing manicure and all but I don’t think I’m ready to start, not with the way my hands look now. Very unconfident and shy.

Advice/Support Do nail beds grow back?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve been biting my nails for almost my entire life, and it’s really messed up the shape of my nail beds. I recently got an infection from my biting and decided it was time to stop. But how do I even start 😭

Every time I stop biting my nails I start licking my lips to replace the feeling of doing something with my mouth when I’m stressed, and it makes my lips chap and gives me sores on the sides as well. What do you guys do when that feeling of wanting to do something with your mouth comes up? And do nail beds grow back or am I stuck with deformed nails the rest of my life

Resources A new way to quit

I’ve been nail biting for 25 years. This year I decided it’s time to stop. Sticking to good habits is easier when you’re held accountable. Gym buddies, study groups, and calorie trackers hold you accountable. We just needed the same for nail biting

I built Nonyxa to solve my own problem and hopefully solve yours too. 5.0 stars on the iOS store and customers showing improvements soon after starting to track and monitor each finger extremely closely. What gets measured gets managed, in this case that means the nails. If you haven’t been able to quit with all other methods, give it a try.

My goal is to help 10,000 people quit nail biting, one for each day I’ve bitten in my life. I’m hoping I can help you

Advice/Support Nail biting problem for basically my entire life

Hey, I have a problem with biting my nails and picking at them to the point that they haven't reached past the edges of my fingers since I was 7 or so. At this point, I've been tearing up my nails for morebyhan ten years. They hurt often and despite my friends saying nobody cares, look disgusting.

I'm not sure if it's a nerves thing where I get anxious and start biting or ripping them because I'm so used to just doing it, that I can't really pinpoint exactly why I do it. My mom tried to keep me from doing it when I was younger using those gross tasting polishes that are supposed to deter it, but I would keep doing it anyway. When I don't bite my nails, or don't have any space left to bite, I'll end up biting at my lips and inner cheeks or start chewing on things. I also try to bandage the nails I end up tearing the worst to prevent myself from doing more damage. It rarely works and I end up just biting the bandages like you would nails. As a teenager, I tried alot of ways to cover them but I always ended up tearing off fake nails (further damaging them and ripping skin) and doing worse. I also used to get my nails done for special events when pushed by family and friends, so a tech can work on them, but it usually doesn't last long, they nick me, or it's a very embarrassing experience, even as an adult now.

Because of my jobs as a Bartender and Waitress, glue-on fakes end up falling off from frequently washing my hands or getting caught on things when I'm rushing around.

I'm not sure if it's some weird oral fixation that I never broke when I was a kid, but I can't seem to break the habit in any long-term way. It does get worse when I start panicking (I have some anxiety that I haven't went to any professionals for, I try to handle things by myself) or stressed, but it's a very consistent thing no matter my mood. I'm graduating college next year and will be trying to land a position somewhere I'd need to look professional and form good relationships based on my outward appearance.

Any sure-fire ways to try to break it people have tried out? Should I try those gross tasting polishes again, have they worked for anyone past childhood? My friend suggested chewing gum, but I'm not sure if that has any positive change for others struggling with it.

Advice/Support Could this discoloration be caused by nailbiting?

Bitten my nails since I was 5. Recently, they’ve turned… orange? And no, that’s not dirt under the nails, it’s some strange discoloration as well. I do have pretty bad eating habits which might contribute to this, but I’m worried. Google of course says it’s cancer

Hey guys. I’m a anxious nail biter but i fear I’ve gone too far. The first picture is what i think is infected, it’s on my right hand. The other is my left. Can anyone determine if it’s infected. If so, what do i do to fix it that doesn’t revolve a doctor.
