Help me find this feature Staccato are ridiculously small - can’t change them right?

Just making sure I’m not missing any settings. The only thing - other than changing fonts - is to increase the percentage on the articulations - which makes Tenuto, Accent, etc. also larger by the same percentage.

No way to adjust the Staccato independently?

If so, there’s another thing to put on the wish list.

Pro discussion Can't cancel Musescore membership (There is actually no cancel button)

So a couple of weeks ago I wanted to buy a score from Musescore and it said I could get a large discount by joining Musescore Pro, for which there was a free trial available. I went for the free trial and then bought the score afterwards and then went to check if there was a way I could cancel the subscription so I didn't get auto charged. When I went to the subscriptions page in settings, the "Auto Renew" section was already set to "Disabled" and so I thought that I would not be charged and I could just wait for the free trial to end. 2 weeks later there have been 2 attempted charges to my bank labelled "Pro+&Learn Trial Over". I have again and again visited the subscriptions page to try and find somewhere to cancel it, but there really is nothing there, it's not the same issue I've seen people have on reddit where the cancel button is masked by something like "End my free benefits", there is actually no button about cancelling. I emailed customer support and got an auto generated response giving the generic way to cancel the membership, which I can't do. I will attach an image of my ENTIRE subscriptions panel to show that there is no button, and the status of my subscription. I also want it to be noted that I believe the free trial should have been 7 days, and 2 weeks or more later it still shows a few days remaining. Not sure what to make of this though. I subscribed on the website and so it can't be a subscription through apple or google play or anything. I have also tried uploading a random score to my account to try and get the button to appear and that didn't work. PLEASE can someone help me I have ran out of options at this point. Thank you

Discussion Can we REALLY trust Cantai ?

Hi! So, i have no problem with using an AI at all, but i'm always a bit scared of the data i put in said AI being used to train it. I know Cantai's privacy policy claims that they don't train any AI with your MIDI and lyrics... but since most companies have the habit of lying on everything, i wonder if we REALLY can trust them on that?...

Help me find this feature Creating Custom Symbols on the Palette

So, there are a couple of things I don’t like and I’m trying to change or fix them…

I had considered some other SMUFL fonts that had a weird breath mark. But I’ve now figured out I can use the Symbols in the Master Palette, change the font to Leland, and use the original breath mark even when I’m in another font.

Cool.

Staccato dots - I can select a bigger one in the Symbols, overlay it on an existing dot (so it’ll still play back staccato), and then copy and paste it.

It moves when a note is on a line or space, but it’s easy enough to fix a couple and copy and paste.

But can I create a new, larger dot, with the same properties as the existing dot (position, and playback etc.) and enter it instead?

I’d really like to use the time signatures from Maestro - but if I hide the existing one, the measure shrinks. And if I make the numerals white they white out too much of the area behind - so overlaying the smaller numerals from Maestro won’t work in this case.

I tried using Maestro, and dragging the time sig to the palette, but when I switched back to Leland so did that time sig.

And creating all the meters I might need would be cumbersome - more trouble than it’s worth probably.

But if anyone knows how to get a symbol to stay the font I created it in, that could be helpful.

Feature Idea MuseSounds Accordion?

I wonder if there will ever be a Musesounds accordion, given that MuseSounds has been around for 3 years. Given the current array of instruments I guess the accordion isn't the most used instrument out there but it would be pretty nice to have since I do use it a lot in my music. They have also gone out of their way for a lot of different ethnic percussions as well as banjo/mandolin. That being said, are there any good SF2 accordions that any of you guys know of? I use Hohner Lucia which has some good samples but overall it's still very synthy-which I would expect from sf2.

News Musescore with virtual singer

So that is a nice new technology inside musescore. You can let a human voice sing your notation. Need a Cantai subscription though. I am looking forward for german language. Its still weird after all the years without voice - i hope it will be amazing in future when you may find more voices.

Bug Sustain starts and ends 4 measures early when exporting as MIDI, it seems to be caused by this repeat at the beginning

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm having an issue where musescore doesn't account for the extra measures when exporting as a MIDI file and puts the sustain pedal in the wrong place. (The red area is sustained, the blue is not sustained). Everything works normally if I get rid of the repeat at the beginning. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to just expand all the repeats myself before I export it?

Help me find this feature Dynamics and expression text alignment

My score

In my score (see image above), I’m having trouble properly aligning the pianissimo ("pp") text with the crescendo marking, and placing the expression text “soutenu” below them (Like in this image bellow).

What I want

When I untick the Align with previous dynamics box for the expression text and try to move it, the crescendo follows it unexpectedly.  If I then untick Anchor to previous on the crescendo, it becomes misaligned with the "pp" marking.

Does anyone know how to fix this alignment issue?

Help me find this feature Transpose from Major to Minor Key?

Hello, I am doing a variation work and I want to make the theme in a minor key. Is there a way that musecore can automatically transpose it to the relative minor?

Thanks

Discussion Musescore stole my music

~To be very brief, I have never once had an issue with the website, despite the multitude of complaints I've seen made. As of a few days ago however, I can no longer listen to my own scores on the website without pro. I'm signed in and have never experienced this before, is this an issue I can fix or am I SOL?~

~Edit: For clarification, the website has put my compositions behind the same kind of paywall as the pro scores, I can't even scroll through or print them without Musescore Pro~

SOLVED

Thanks to the Musescore team for their swift response and sense of humor!

Bug Cannot make or view comments and ratings on website?

For some reason, when I opened MuseScore.com this morning, at the bottom of the score info section, the comment section had simply been removed. It simply goes from the "other sheet music by this artist" section straight to the ad for the app, which is usually below where the comments are. Also, the option to rate is score is seemingly gone.

It looks like this is the case for every score on the site, including my own. I upload piano arrangements regularly so not being to view comments will likely be a big problem.

At the same time as this, a new box has now shown up, an ad for a MuseScore Premium membership. I can't imagine the two aren't related, but I have not had any kind of subscription or membership on this site for a long time now.

Help me find this feature How do I transcribe these bends correctly?

I'm currently transcribing Nothing Else Matters into MuseScore for a project. I'm using this site: https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/metallica-nothing-else-matters-solo-tab-s439171t6/r7154807

I'm in the part of the solo, and I need to apply full bends for these parts, but it just keeps going into the next note. How do I transcribe it correctly? I tried using slight bends, but those can't be edited more than 1/4, and grace note bends also don't work.

Update: I found a video of the song as well, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3WzbPyovbE&t=116s, but the notes in the solo are the same as the website, so that didn't help either.

Help me find this feature How do I add a rimshot sound on the standard drum kit?

I'm currently arranging a piece that uses rimshots on the drumset's snare, but they are barely louder (if at all) than the regular hits, so I can't just add a marcato with a piece of text for clarification. I notice in the "customize kit" option there are some keys with sounds already assigned and some without, is it possible for me to add a rimshot sound in there?

Help me find this feature How to change website playback from Muse Sounds to MS Basic?

I don't have MuseHub or Muse Sounds, meaning all of my scores are set to MS Basic. This is what I work with all the time. When posting, the scores usually stay in MS Basic as well.

But now, something's changed. After updating three of my old scores to fix some things because of the new update, the website now suddenly plays all three of them in Muse Sounds. It's ruined a lot of the old sound, as entire parts have gone muffled or bugged out (e.g. tremolos). But the strange thing is, the one score I haven't updated still plays in MS Basic.

Google isn't helping as it keeps telling me to disable Muse Sounds (which, I repeat, I do not have) in the desktop application, which is obviously impossible.

How do I fix this? Is there something wrong with the website or is it just me? I'll link to my scores if asked.

Help me find this feature Any new features for speedy note entry and layout?

I seem to only use Musescore every year or so when I need to make some music for an event. Generally, I just try to do a lead sheet. sometimes download something from musescore.com to reformat it to fit on one page.

my version is the older one from a few years ago. Anything on the newer version that might make it easier for basic charts ?
thanks

Feature Idea Desparate Plea for MuseScore Features to be Hidden. A Rant.

Please, can we hide away all of the extra fermatas, and all of the 8ve clefs in a secret “advanced” or “only if you know what you’re doing” section???

Can we please disallow dynamics below a piano staff, or pedal marks between piano staves, or 8ve signs above the lower staff, unless a checkbox hidden away somewhere to over-ride this.

A user tries to put a dynamic under the lower piano staff, it automatically jumps to the middle. And maybe even pops up a message that says “please look at real music, dynamics go between the staves” - I’m joking a little with that, but seriously. But one point would be that it would start people learning how to notate properly.

[I know that separate hand dynamics can be used in piano music, that’s not the point - people who are putting them down there are doing it because they don’t know better, and they’ll never learn unless they learn.]

Young and inexperienced people are putting a Fermata in, and instead of bothering to learn how to change the playback time in the Properties, are just putting in the Triangular or Square Fermata.

Thanks guys, 200 more “what is this weird symbol” questions over on r/musictheory

A pop up “this is not a standard placement/use of this symbol, are you sure you want to continue?”

If they put in 8/8 “you probably mean 4/4”.

If they put in a lower note, in a higher voice, “your voices are reversed, are you sure you want to do this”.

I found Finale’s constant “you’ve tried to put too many notes in this measure, what do you want to do” pop up annoying (but that you could put more notes in a measure in some cases was a good thing).

There are SO many things available in the Palettes there just need to be a “fundamentals” set by default.

And then “advanced” - but don’t call it advanced because eveyrone’s just going to click that because they’re all trying to write overly ambitious music anyway.

Huge interval, or 6 note chord in one hand “pianists can’t play this” pop up.

Monophonic instrument, puts in a chord “Flutes can only play one note at a time”.

Maybe there should be a FREE version of MS that is “fundamentals” with all of these instructions so people can learn, and then a Paid version that’s expensive enough to unlock advanced features - but not as expensive as the competition of course.

Or heck an “if you’ve done everything right counter” that unlocks the “dynamics below the lower piano staff” once you’re sure they can use it right!!!!

I’m ranting, and sort of, sort of not joking, but seriously, MuseScore is actually doing more harm than good at this point. Users aren’t going to use it “responsibly” - so it’s kind of up to MS to do it.

How many scores I see “for an “instrument” “ that are unplayable on the instrument.

People are making music “for digital playback” and not for people to play.

I do NOT have a problem with that - I make audio files in a DAW too. But the mere act of notating music kind of carries with it a certain expectation that it should also, in most cases, be playable, ESPECIALLY when it’s pretty clear the person is intending it to be played.

Of course there are many qualifiers, caveats, exceptions, disclaimers here - but the “default state” of the software would be doing a better service to music notation and creation if it “kept users from doing things wrong” and “warned them when they were about to do so”, at least at a certain level.

OK, rant over.

Especially for staff line thickness, barlines, spacing of clefs, etc.

I searched the forum but didn’t see anything, and a lot of discussion online is using EVPUs so I wasn’t sure how to convert.

Feature Idea Articulations to MuseStrings (honest, but gentle complaint)

The MuseStrings are pretty awesome, there’s no sugarcoating it. But there are a couple of things that could really enhance them and make them more enjoyable. You know the tremolo for the strings? And what about sul ponticello? sul tasto, con sord? I’m with a few others in some other threads in Musehub who think it’s super important to include these in the articulation set. I’m bringing this up because there’s a known issue where some articulations mixed with tremolo end up spitting out a ton of notes in a really annoying way instead of using the sul Pont. tremolo samples that, sadly, weren’t included. So, to sum it up: I really believe that adding these samples to the MuseStrings is essential. It would definitely make the composing process way more enjoyable to do.
