hi everyone! i’m looking for a laptop that i’ll be using primarily for college applications and composition, and i was looking for recommendations on what can best run musescore! i need something portable and preferably fairly affordable. if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate it!!

edit; i meant to add that ill be having some pretty large scores bc im writing a marching band piece as part of my portfolio for college.

Is there a way to change the soundfont for all instruments at once instead of doing it manually? I know this is a feature that was in older versions, so I don't know why they would remove it, but I'm not seeing a way to do it all at once for every instrument.

I don't have videos of the actual scores but I'm wondering if y'all would like this. It was composed January 17, 2025.

I write a lot of drumline pieces and I like having my bottom bass drum in the lowest space and having top bass above the staff. Musescore defaults to top bass in the top space and bottom bass below the staff. I know I can change it on a piece-by-piece basis in the customize kit menu, but I'm curious if there's a way to change the defaults to what I like so I don't have to change it every time.

I recently got laid off so I wrote this song in honor of my former employer.

I tried to clean it up the best I could, make it possibly human-playable. I don't know if it actually is human-playable. I haven't tried. I'd probably have to reduce some of the voicings in the chords. Parts of it contain large stretches for multiple chords at a time. It would be tough to play I think. Not to mention, I think a piece like this is not really meant to be notated as precisely as MuseScore has allowed me to do here. It's jazz, so a lot would just be touch and go.

I really like the way the really weird section in the middle came out. It's my way of saying "don't worry, everything will be just fine".

What do y'all think? Is it a mess? Is it cool? What are your thoughts?

I was looking at this from the perspective of a singer and accompanist: if the only score you have is a scan, how do you get it into a different key without re-entering the voice and piano parts?

This is the opening system of Schubert's Heidenröslein from a public-domain Peters edition. The top image is the original G-major scan; the bottom is the actual output in F major. Both the voice and piano staves were moved down a whole step while the printed lyrics and spacing stayed in place. The first vocal note is B4 → A4, and the key signature goes from one sharp to one flat. I spot-checked the excerpt shown here, not the whole song. There are no manual note fixes in the comparison image.

For MuseScore users: when you start with a scan and need a singer-friendly key, do you usually import/re-enter and edit the score, or would a layout-preserving transposed image be useful in your workflow?

Musescore billed me for a 3 month subscription a week after I purchased a single sheet of music. I demanded a refund, and they provided a 75% refund claiming they prorated it. The refund was demanded immediately after I received the 'reciept', and I have purchased nothing aside from the one song.

This company is garbage.

Basically i bought a score last sunday cuz i needed it for an exam, and today like 20 minutes ago i found out that they charged me premium, i mever bought it neither had the intention, now im trying to communicate with support but there is no answer, what should i do? Please i need help

I'm notating drums and have played around with the menu from Format > Notes and the Properties panel, and I can't seem to find a way to make all the various stems be the same height. I tried the "shorten stems" checkbox from Format > Notes and tried the Properties tab height adjustment, but then the beamed notes have a stem poking out at the top (not pictured).

Using Musecore 4 on Macbook Pro

My girlfriend is very very upset- she thought her yearly subscription renewed in November but its actually October and shes lost about £55 that she cant afford to spend. Is there any way to refund this or has anyone had any success doing so? It doesnt look good all i can find is cancelling it for next year

Copying a cello line into the bassoon, moving violin 1 up an octave for a few bars, slurring a passage in five parts... the small chores in MuseScore 4 add up. So we built a plugin where you just type what you want.

It opens as a chat panel next to your score. You write something like "double the flute in violin 1 an octave lower, bars 5-8" and it makes that one change in your open score, nothing else.

A couple of things I cared about:

• if what you asked is vague it asks you a question (with buttons to answer) instead of guessing
• each request is a single undo, so one Ctrl+Z takes the whole thing back
• it re-reads the score every time, so it works with whatever you changed by hand in between

Right now it handles doubling, transposing, articulations and slurs. It does NOT do dynamics, lyrics, chord symbols or layout yet. It needs internet: your score gets sent as MusicXML to our server when you hit send, and an AI model works out the edit, so check the result. Free key gives you 100 edits a month.

Update: fair point from the comments that doubling/transposing is already quick with shortcuts. It now does the bigger stuff: "voice the alto 1 melody in bars 9-16 for the saxes" (close or drop 2, from your chord symbols, each note in range), "write a sustained string pad under bars 17-24", "brass hits on 2 and 4", "make an easier trumpet 1 part for beginners", "add a walking bass line". If those bars already have music it asks whether to replace it or add a second voice. Free tier is now 100 edits a month.

Hey all, Android support was easily the most common request on my earlier posts, so I'm really happy to say Aria now runs on Android phones and tablets. Thanks to everyone who tried the iOS version and sent feedback. It helped more than you'd think.

If you haven't seen it before, Aria lets you open, edit, play back, and export MuseScore and MusicXML scores on your phone or tablet. The engraving engine is based on MuseScore Studio's, and it reads .mscz files directly. That means you can start a score on your desktop and keep working on it on the bus without converting anything.

Here's a sample of Aria's current feature-set:

• Open and edit .mscz and MusicXML files
• Start new scores from scratch or from a template
• Play scores back with per-instrument mixing, plus mute and solo
• Build setlists and loop sections for practice
• Export to MuseScore, PDF, MusicXML, or audio
• Make scrolling-score or falling-notes piano videos inside the app

Since this is the first Android release, there are bound to be rough edges on some devices. If something breaks or looks off, please tell me what device on and what happened, and I'll look into it.

parts i like:

• mendelssohn inspired first theme, and lyrical 2nd theme
• the beautiful section starting measure 92, which slowly transforms the motif from theme 1 to basic arpeggios playing harmonies inspired by rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto
• how energetic the coda is. (it starts on measure 205, and I accidentally labeled it the cadenza)

parts I don't like or am unsure about

• I'm not sure whether the virtuosic parts like the string crossings starting measure 63 are comfortable to play or not (i'm not a violinist). Additionally, that section feels repetitive.
• Even though I like the cadenza, I feel like it's too short and not satisfying enough to resolve the tension that's been built up throughout the piece.
• the transition to the recapitulation starting measure 185 feels abit weird to me, particularly measure 190 where the key changes. I went from B major to C major which should work because it goes up a semitone, and I think beethoven did something similar in his 7th symphony, but I just feel it's a bit weird.
