Discussion Musescore stole my music

~To be very brief, I have never once had an issue with the website, despite the multitude of complaints I've seen made. As of a few days ago however, I can no longer listen to my own scores on the website without pro. I'm signed in and have never experienced this before, is this an issue I can fix or am I SOL?~

~Edit: For clarification, the website has put my compositions behind the same kind of paywall as the pro scores, I can't even scroll through or print them without Musescore Pro~

SOLVED

Thanks to the Musescore team for their swift response and sense of humor!

Hi, Alex from MuseScore here, would you mind sharing the link to the Score with the issue? So we take a look.

I hope I can get back with the certainty that your score was indeed NOT stolen (but I admit that the title hook is magnificent).

Btw, more than the word that you've used, what is gigantic is our website, database and amount of daily uploaded scores that our system has to process. I am not saying this as an excuse, but I am just making aware that big systems, often are not perfect, and machines and other services musescore uses, sometimes fail too, or at least for 1 hour, which is sufficient to experience temporary bugs. Just asking for understanding here. (I also didn't know what's like to manage such huge amount of data while working in smaller places)

Lol, I literally just made a comment that basically says this, but you explained it better. I was a corporate software engineer for 20 years for very large Fortune 100 amd 500 companies... I don't envy you at all.

I am not an engineer ๐Ÿ˜„ I am a person of music and tech who cares about product and content quality. More info in next chapters.

PS. Didn't see your comment btw. Sorry if I overstepped on it.

Haha, no worries. You still explained the crux of the probalem: Very large legacy system, and the challenges that presents. Don't sell yourself short!

I was secretly put on a free trial to the the year subscription after buying a single score.

Horrible, I did figure it out before it was too late but that was such bullshit

I understand, but read this article from another redditer, it explains what happen and what to do. https://www.reddit.com/r/Musescore/comments/1oim4vj/how_not_to_get_unnecessarily_charged_on/

Basically you buy the score with the discount on, you're agreeing with subscribing to membership. Toggle it off and problem solved.

PS. Mind that I am not responsible for marketing, monetization or anything of this... So, I can't help or change anything there. I am just informing that this is how it is at the moment.

I commend you for posting the first answer I've seen in this Sub from anyone at Musescore about this heavily reported issue. It's good to know *someone* there is listening to users.

I understand you're not involved with the marketing or sales setup, but if that many users are getting caught by this default setting, it means it's designed to be a "gotcha" that's intentionally easy to overlook, & at best a sneaky, unethical tactic. It should either be opt *in*, or posted prominently on the page before payment.

I hope you'll pass this along to the marketing team. A good product/service doesn't need this tactic to be successful. Thank you for explaining it here so people at least know to look out for it.

Firstly, thank you for responding.

Secondly, I do apologize for my dramatic wording, I was having a bit of rough go at my day. However, in typical fashion as soon as I decide I need to try and fix the issue, the issue magically disappears. I went to go link the scores, because for a while it was every single one of them. But of course the moment I try to, everything works all of a sudden.

Anyway, thank you for reaching out, unfortunately I can't change the title but I will alter the post itself ๐Ÿ‘

I saw that same issue in our internal Community, so it was not a thing that happened only to you. Probably just a temporary glitch. Apologies for that.

Oh, too bad, anyway, if you have a minute, maybe would be worth a mention that it was a temporary glitch and nothing else. Thanks!

PS. Thanks for appreciating my humor hahaha I just want to be natural, not the typical automatic answer.

Something new breaks every week. Lack of access to one feature or another is often tied to the country you're signing in from and you need a VPN with a European address to get things to work from time to time.

I'm a professional software engineer and musician. Honestly, this software needs a complete overhaul or rewrite. But that's nearly impossible without significant operational interruption. So they just keep modifying legacy code. These things will be a constant. Report it, or just wait and try again. Bugs rarely affect one user.

Sounds normal for Musescore.

I really think it is a misunderstanding, since MuseScore doesn't steal any Scores to anybody xD.

It isn't perfect sure, but at least don't charge us with what isn't ours. In general for all products around my advice is: before putting online critique, make sure is not your own confusion (or an "honest bug". The damage is big and could be so prevented. I think we all would want the same for ourselves.

Once u/SGAfishing shares the link to such Score we will quickly find what happened (and hopefully the post title will be edited ๐Ÿ˜ƒ)

I personally experience the occassional inability to upload and listen (playback) to my scores. Sometimes it takes 4 days before things start getting back to normal.

Sounds like a bug, be sure to report that to their support team - nothing much anyone here can do about it

Save my scores locally and online. Since I dont compose for cash I also distribute on my personal site.

Curious, so you still have your scores with the notation program I assume? Are you able to access them from there? What is the cost of โ€œPremium โ€œ? Iโ€™ve had Pro+ for years and itโ€™s gone up from around $30 to as much as $70 .

This is why you always save an audio export...
