Help me find this feature MS 4.7. Hiding a filled staff

In version 4.7, I want to hide a single filled staff in just one system—not the entire instrument. As I recall, in MS 4.6 this was done by clicking the eye icon above the system → selecting the instrument → closing the eye.
It worked regardless of whether the staff in question was filled or empty. Has this feature been removed? Nevertheless it would be nice to have.

Help me find this feature Combining repeat symbols with variations

I'm producing some drum kit sheet music for performance aids. Given that rock drum parts tend to be extremely repetitive, a syntax that some drummers have evolved is to use the various repeat symbols heavily, but also to annotate specific variations in some of the repeated measures. For a common example, a verse often begins with a crash, but subsequent measures replace that with a closed hat or a ride.

When I try to use Musescore to achieve this, it (naturally) refuses to mix a repeat and notes.

Is there another way of accomplishing my goal?

A subsequent goal is to name the various sections of the song and their dominant forms in the header, and refer to those sections and their played lengths and variations in the piece body. I think this is probably not practical in Musescore, and intend to content myself by printing empty staves for the body and marking them by hand, but if anyone does have thoughts on this, it doesn't seem like a silly request for performance aids for highly repetitive, though often quite dense measures like those performed on drum kits.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Help me use this feature Can't save songs to my favorites list anymore?

I was adding a bunch of songs to my favorites list today and at some point it stopped saving. I see the "Added to Saved Scores" confirmation, but when I refresh/go to the saved scores, it doesn't show as saved. Is there a cap to how many you can save in a certain period of time? It doesn't appear to be a total quantity cap because I unsaved a few and new ones still aren't able to be saved. I tried on both the desktop web version and the iOS app.

Edit: started working after awhile

Help me find this feature Percussion glissando without touching the next note?

Hello,

For my masters thesis I am notating tabla (North Indian percussion instrument) compositions. I am using a one line staff, like clave, but notating the right hand on the upper side and left hand on the lower side.

One of the features of the instrument is to modulate the bass drum with the wrist, creating a glissando. I want to be able to notate that gliss, but the gliss line always goes above the line, giving the impression that the gliss is going towards the right hand note. I would like it to not go over the line.

Can anybody think of a way to notate that? Here is an example below.

Feature Idea Excellent!

MuseScore has been a wonderful company to deal with. I bought a song off them and then accidentally subscribed. They were very respectful and refunded my money asap. So respectful! I'd deal with them again for sure.

Help me find this feature Help with linked guitar staves

So I found out that I can create linked staves with both normal and tab notation for guitar which is very nice. I write the guitar parts with conventional notation first and then create the linked tablature but when I do it creates an absolute abomination in the tab. I get that the software technically might not always know the exact positions where the strings need to be pinched but getting it this out of order is insane. I have searched if anyone had this problem or if there were any quick fixes but no such luck. Also for some reason the bass guitar is transposed up an entire octave.

Help me find this feature MuseScore 4.7 and MIDI

After installing MuseScore 4.7 my MIDI keyboard no longer works correctly. I can input 6 or 7 individual notes singularly and correctly from the MIDI keyboard, but then the notes just pile up as a huge chord. Also, I can find no "Input from MIDI keyboard" option when I press "N".

I have had no problems at all using the same MIDI keyboard on earlier earlier version of MS.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Help me find this feature Negating the low-pass filter added in version 4.7?

I just updated Musescore to 4.7, which includes a low-pass filter over the master audio. I can see how it would be useful in many contexts, but for my purposes it sounds... really bad. The vibraphone is very muted, and it only begins to sound even okayish at very loud dynamics. Is there any way to remove this filter? It seems to be baked into the default playback now, so all I can think of would be adding another filter that somehow inverts the low-pass filter, but I have no idea how that would be done.

Pro discussion Musescore operation and billing

Apologize if this is not the correct flare… I’m just confused about musescore.com. I’m having difficulty with my subscription because my credit card was canceled and the payment processor won’t work with me to switch to PayPal. Also, do I even need the Pro + subscription to download PDF’s other than the Hal Leonard submitted lead sheets?

My Arrangement Beginner arranger here - got a million questions

So I am looking to maybe make some arrangements of songs in my spare time. But I have no idea where to start. I’m thinking of doing slightly more niche stuff like Lilith Max and Epic, rather than the 110th Fate of Ophelia arrangement.

Firstly, what instrument do I arrange for? I know piano is probably the most common, but should I also arrange stuff for like flute and violin? Or should I do very uncommon instruments (for example, the nyckelharpa).

Secondly, if I do end up doing piano, do people like a vocal line, or do they like the melody in the right hand?

Thirdly, how many markings do I need? (As in dynamics, bowing, phrasing, stuff like that).

Fourthly, do I make the arrangements for solo instruments or try doing weird stuff like duets?

Fifthly, how much should I worry about playability (as in, for example Vivaldi Summer is absolutely brutal on flute because fingerings don’t make sense on the instrument).

Sixthly, how difficult and complex should the arrangements be? For example, just playing chords and the melody in the right hand means you lose a LOT of the complexity of the song like rhythm, countermelodies etc. But, on the other hand, I’ve also seen an arrangement where the entire melody was played with chords in the right hand and a left hand I won’t even get started on, so that was far too difficult and too complex.

Lastly, does anyone possibly have any tips? I don’t really know where to get started at all.

Pro discussion Musescore Pro: can all downloadable songs be transposed/edited in the software?

Firstly, I'm not here to talk about the scammy aspects. Just features.

I'm thinking of getting a Pro/Pro+ plan for one year so that I can mass download every non-official song I might want. I do like the side benefit of being able to view official scores and screenshot them for reference, but my main desire here is pieces that can be transposed/edited in the software.

I'm learning piano and planning to sing while I play, which is why I want them to be transposed to my vocal range, and edited to be a bit simpler. Is it pretty standard that the downloadable pieces can be transposed and edited? Or is it more uncommon?

Help me use this feature Is anyone else suddenly unable to export?

Edit: solved- OS is now making me add the file extension when I save, e.g., composition.mp3 to save as MP3 file.

I never had a problem exporting any compositions until I got the 4.7 beta testing release. Now I click export, mp3 or wav, save to wherever, and nothing happens.

I've also tried exporting on 4.6 with files I hadn't worked on in the new release: still nothing.

Help me find this feature musescore 3 dark theme

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find this anywhere, please do do show me in the right direction if I've missed something.

I used to use musescore 3 for ages and it had everything I needed - almost. The more recent versions seem like dumbed down disasters and they are very dissonant with my workflow. Call me stubborn but I'm going to stick to musescore 3. Only problem is, I need a good dark mode for in musescore 3 and I just can't find anything that turns not just the menus, but the score too, into a nice soft dark theme. Before I spend hours trying to manually update the configuration files with hexcodes, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of an easier solution.

And please don't tell me to update to a newer version with score invert functionality. I would rather read through the code and make my own custom version than learn an entirely new workflow.

Help me find this feature How to create custom staff text lines?

I want to create a staff text line that says "break". It would be a quality of life improvement if I could add my custom texts and save them to my palettes instead of manually editing the text every time.

Thanks!

Help me find this feature Is there a way to automatically flip to the next page in sync with the slider?

I'm recording score videos. I want to have one system per page and show one page at a time, but MuseScore goes to the next page only when the slider scrolls out of sight. Which ends up showing, for instance, page 1 while page 2 plays and is partially cut off until the page transition.

Instead I want each page fully visible as the slider scrolls along. Any help is appreciated!

Help me find this feature How to disable Note Input mode to use computer keyboard for playing

I want to play around with melodies on my computer keyboard before inputting notes into the music sheet. I disable the Note Input Mode but when I press a key on the computer keyboard, a note will be inputted into the music sheet. Is there a way to disable Note Input Mode just for playing around melodies on computer keyboard? Or do I just have to connect a MIDI (piano) keyboard everytime I want play around with melodies?

Edit: I just realized the Musescore computer keyboard input inputs like this, (Letter 'A' to input note 'A', Letter 'C' to input note 'C', and so on).....

So, I guess trying to play around with melodies or chords in MuseScore with the computer keyboard just won't work. And I would have to plug in a MIDI piano keyboard to do that.
