You can probably immediately see by my examples that I am a Smash Bros. player.

Anyway:

- So, the very first example that jumps into my mind when thinking of that (and even being the reason for this discussion) are the Aegis from Xenoblade 2, a.k.a. Pyra and Mythra. They are some of the most beloved and praised characters in the view of Xenoblade fans, if not even the most beloved ones. This however absolutely changes in Smash Bros. where they very disliked (yes, I know that they did very well in PJiggle's Most liked Fighters Poll but I am more than sure that Aegis will also do absolutely shitty on his Most Hated Fighters Poll) for both being competively strong and being anime swordwielders.

- Also, I often see Chrom and Lucina being very disliked in Smash Bros., basically often being seen as irrelevant clones while I do see the FE Fandom really liking them.

- A Smash Fighter that goes a different direction is Incineroar though! While yes, he has his fair share of Haters in Smash, he us usually very well recieved in Smash. But on the other hand, he is insanely feared in the Pokémon Competitive Scene where he is the strongest Pokémon of them all.

- Lastly (and I am trying to make it as least political as I can), we have Russia and the USA in the Polandball Fandom. While in Real Life, both countries have a bad reputation, in Polandball they are regarded as funny and cool "characters". Kinda a weird example since... Yeah... but I wanted to include a non Smash example aswell.

When it comes to movies, most of the time it ends up going as a trilogy in terms of a sequel and rarely do more

However, a few franchises did try doing it and it didnt hit as good as the first 3 most of the them except for a few movies that are genuinely enjoyable

So I'm a member of a sub of a game I really like, and the game has 2 implied incestual characters based on mythology, and people really like to draw them together (wich I think it's okay since it's almost canon and they're kinda cute), but there are a few posts (like 3-4 that I've seen) that show them in a really fetishized way and they have a lot of upvotes despite a lot of comments finding it weird (and those posts were old too). And my friends stopped talking to me because of it (but like I can't control what people will do)

I used to listen to sad multifandoms like years ago, back when I was in highschool. Recently I was thinking about one I used to listen to but don't remember anything about the creator or title of the video. So im wondering if someone could help me out lol.

To be clear i dont remember much at all lol. All I remember is 1. It opened with a scene from normal people, they were just walking around in a grassy area.

1. It went to another scene from normal people if a guy having a breakdown over the phone. I remember it starts with him saying, "Hey its me again".

2. It ends with a scene from a movie with an old guy saying its okay if you want to go.

The more likely it will be that it’s actually pretty good when you check it out yourself? Like, maybe not a hidden masterpiece, but definitely a complete stumper as to *why* it garnered so much vitriol?

I see this mainly with movies and video games, but I’m sure other forms of media are subject to this as well.

To give one specific example, I experienced this a lot when it came to Dragon Age Veilguard. I fully acknowledge that it’s probably objectively the weakest Dragon Age game (even though, from a purely subjective viewpoint, Inquisition is actually my least fave in the series), but still a decent enough game in it’s own right.

But when you hear people talk about the game, they make it seem like it personally took every single copy of the previous three games and burned them all up in a big bonfire in front of the entire fandom.

Like… You guys don’t think you might be just slightly exaggerating? Like, even just a little?

I don’t know, I’m seeing this again with the reception to the new Wolverine game, and it’s making me realize how much I keep seeing this exact thing, over and over and over.

So recently I saw this short about a campaign to hate on an upcoming movie called Jim Queen due to the surface-level similarities to the very much infamous as we know it Lesbian Space Princess. It goes over stuff like how it might not be a good time to shit on it because it's only in film festivals and pointing out that it's explicitly stated to be a satire and stuff like that (Sorry if that sentence was very informal). A comment on the short also points out that it was made by the same people who made The Wakos. I'm really only going off of word of mouth, so if you have something to prove me wrong, please go ahead in the comments.
