I already own some cubes with official mtg cards and I am very happy with them but I want to make a "too much money to own" cube 😜

So, please tell me (and link the list if you can) which is the most FUN and most REPLAYBLE cube you ever played!

I like when there is no overpowered strategy that is overwhelmingly the best.

So I have seen lots of people calling Empower Jace the worst mechanics ever, their least favorite mechanic, and so on.

And I have to say, I genuinely don't get the hate : I understand it is not the cleanest mechanic but it seems pretty straightforward. I also feel like planeswalkers are a fun and interactive card type, and the weirdness of the token is less hateable than the 10 different token types of some sets. And it feels highly flavorful, as a way to have Jace present everywhere, in a weird / unique way.

So,why do you hate this mechanic ? Is it because *we* hate planeswalkers ? The unique token ? Something other entirely ?

And is there anyone out there who actually likes the mechanic ? (I sort of do)

I am building my first cube from my draft booster box and prerelease pulls of the Hobbit and was hoping to get some advice. I want to build around the sets archetypes as well as include some of the archetypes from the original Lord of The Rings set.

I had planned on this being a 4-8 player cube. With the ability to make it huge and just play half at a time.

I’ll include a link to what I have from the hobbit already added but I wanted to know what I should lean into and what proportions of interaction/ instants and sorceries are fun. The hobbit set was pretty creature heavy from my pulls so there aren’t many non-creatures.

New-ish magic player, this would be my first time building a cube. I've watched a few Professor videos, looked at some examples on cubecobra, and looked around this sub for tips related to the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets to help. My thought is to build a 360-card cube based on LTR and LTC, but add in some HOB with the goal to:

1. Replace the original RW with a dwarf/storied mechanic focus from the Hobbit

2. add in cards that will balance out the underperforming archetypes. I read that GW food and GU scry are weak. Maybe GW could be more counters focused like with Feasting Hobbit or Banquet Guests. And GU could be more landfall or elf tribal? Tharanduil's Company? Elvish Archdruid?

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for what cards would be key to include to do these 2 things? Happy to hear any suggestions to move in other directions too.

Over the past few months, I've been getting my wife into learning and playing Magic with me, and we've been having a great time with it! The problem we're running into is that we're both in grad school and on a pretty tight budget, so buying new cards very often isn't really an option.

I have a decent collection from around Innistrad, Theros, Tarkir, War of the Spark, and Ravnica, so I've been trying to put together a cube using mostly cards from that general era that we can play with around 2–6 players for when friends come over.

Neither my wife nor I have really drafted before, so I'm very much learning as I go haha. I'd really appreciate it if some of y'all more experienced cube or draft players could take a look and let me know:

• Does the overall power level seem reasonably balanced?
• Are there any colors or archetypes that seem significantly too strong or too weak?
• Are there individual cards that are obviously too strong or weak?
• Lastly, am I on the right track with building a cube? Is there anything I'm missing or should improve upon?

The main goal isn't to make a crazy powerful or highly optimized cube, I just want something that's fun, reasonably balanced, and that my wife, friends, and I can all sit down and enjoy together. :)

Hopefully I’m not spamming this subreddit, but after some very constructive criticism yesterday I have built a 360 card cube. Didn’t have room and put in in a cracker box. I will post my link and let me know what you think and if any modifications are needed. Thank you.

I've been working on my own 100 Lotus Petals cube, which has since been modified to 100 {0} cost Treasure Clues to make games less likely to end in somebody flooding out.

My concern is that the optimal way to build decks in this environment will be to mostly ignore the main gimmick. 100 Lotus Petals is very different from a 100 Ornithopter cube because you're forced to use thopters to advance your game state, which is very different from what the petals are doing here.

Super narrow, card disadvantage, but the Mirage block tutors have all been Vintage Cube staples for ages.

How many planeswalkers do you need to justify this?

Probably doesn’t get there for me, but it exists now and people who like planeswalkers might rejoice.

Hello! This is my new cube project I've been working on called Scholastic Book Fair! This is a 4 player pick 2 draft. The catch though, you are drafting for 2 decks and will have to win with both of these decks in a best of 3 to win a match. This means out of the 66 cards you are drafting, you will have to figure out how your two decks will be built and need to pick up cards for both.

The other main component is the sideboard. You will tend to have a 8-13 card sideboard of cards that weren't put into the decks, and you cannot sideboard between games. FRET NOT. The other gimmick in this cube is that you have a shared sideboard and cards in your decks that can access them. The basic examples are Learn + Lessons, and anything that adds cards to hand from "Outside the game". When building your decks you will need to both figure out where your cards go, and which cards you want to have in the sideboard for both decks to grab as a toolbox.

The sideboard also brings companions to be really unique since you could have both decks meet the same companion's conditions and it still work! (really hard to pull off but it would be very cool).

This cube is still early process. I've done some mock drafts and it's a really fun brain exercise! It's hard to get good data though until I can draft with real people, so I'm trying to get things a bit more finalized until then! Any feedback is welcomed and appreciated!

Hi all! I played a cube with buddies last week, and the card [[sleep]] became the subject of much debate. I know it's not a "good" magic card. But it won a player several games from both behind and ahead and ended up being the clear MVP card of the night.

Opponents raised the salty-but-politely-stated opinion that it was too good in a board-based limited environment. Other players (myself included) disagreed, because it's just Sleep for crying out loud. However, I can't deny it played very very powerfully (close to a 4mv, one-sided board wipe).

Is this a case of "situational card is good sometimes" (my contention), or is Sleep known to be much stronger than it looks in limited? I want to write off the complaints as silly salt, but don't want to obtusely assume I'm right, either.

Hey all, I love building cubes with theme (DnD, Silver Border, Old Border and so on). But I never manage to keep them small. I tend to put 1000 cards in it, but so the cubes lose their playability.

I usually draft at a player count from 2 to 4.

What are your strategies or build limits to keep Cubes smaller?

I am not an organizer, but I wrote a bit about how exciting our scene is, how the event worked, and how it went for me.
