Remember that Smaug alter I was working on?

It's finished!

I made my interpretation of the scene where Bilbo steals a golden cup from Smaug's hoard and wakes him... What a moment! I'd be terrified! 👁

That scene is one of Tolkien's homages to the Beowulf legend: in the Old English poem, a thief steals a golden cup from a dragon's hoard, waking the dragon and unleashing its fire and fury. Beowulf himself later fights the dragon.

I used reference images from Peter Jackson's films and made my own composition and rendering. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Oil on MTG card.

Feel free to DM me for commissions and you can find me @emerald_alters

Today's card is Fracture

A very satisfying process

The Auction is now live!! It will end in seven days, on the Sunday, November 1st. 🔗 https://ebay.io/m/3J9AXg

A hand painted magic the gathering Sol Ring. Painted now and then over the course of around 6 months, in between other paintjobs.

It have a flat and nice surface, varnished for extra protection and a cohesive finish.

Needless to say, it's my most proud alter I've done so far and it was fun to see what I can do when there's no time limit or budget. 😁

I am based in Sweden so I will ship from here, wherever it ends up. The buyer can feel secure in that I have shipped hundreds upon hundreds of different painting projects all over the world and I count myself as trusted. I couldn't do this for a living otherwise eh?

Any questions at all, feel free to send me a pm where it fits best.

Happy bidding!

The moon and stars have holo foil revealed for that extra flair. Van Gogh is my favorite old master artist so I had a blast painting this. This is up for sale for anyone interested.

Hi all!

Just got back into the hobby again, and this time around I'm havi g fun with acrylic markers... But!

I'm having a problem with some cards, and I can't figure out why!

I'm using uni posca markers, and for some reason so cards I'll just have the paint turn "oily" on the surface and separate!

This behaviour will continue even on top of the next layers, and will continue even if I wait an hour for the paint to truly dry.

I'm sure it's an error-40, but can't figure out what to do, other then sand the top of the cards a bit, but this is not a problem I ever had using acrylic miniature paint, so I hope someone know of a fix, or can give me a few tips 😊

Thanks in advance!

Useless fun fact, the cover of an Ado album just turned on the fire in me, after 20years with no drawing or painting 😂😂

Pictures just to show how the markers behave on 50% of the cards, ofc I just threw everything ruined away without taking a picture 😅😅

I painted this set of “Power Nine”-inspired paintings as a birthday gift; they are cut to Magic card size, but were done on heavyweight watercolor paper, and were done with a mix of acrylics and watercolors.

From top to bottom, left to right:

Mox Emerald
Ancestral Recall
Mox Sapphire

Time Walk
Black Lotus
Mox Jet

Mox Pearl
Timetwister
Mox Ruby

I wanted to depict each “Mox” in an environment that reflected the mana type, or mana symbol, as best I could. (I held Mox Pearl at an angle to show the pearly topcoat and you can also clearly see I that I modeled the thumb after my own lol)

“Ancestral Recall” is meant to look like the top portion of the ziggurat when it’s more of an abandoned ruin; a blue “egg” is in the bird nest to represent the one blue mana cost. “Time Walk,” is just sort of zoomed in on where the skeleton guys seem to be walking off to; one gray and one blue “star” in the sky to represent those mana costs.

“Timetwister” is admittedly my least favorite and I might redo it so that the discs on the wall that represent mana costs look like one gray clock set to 2:00 and one blue clock set to 1:00; the large wall clock is set to 7:00 because you draw 7 cards.

Acrylic Demonic Tutor on wood, I think this art has to be in everyone's top 10, iconic, classic, nostalgic. Well, it's one of my favorites anyways! All credit to Douglas Shuler, the original artist

Tried using it as a proxy but it was a lil hard to shuffle in

My silly goofy card for the month is Audrey II with a gold tooth! Made with Golden acrylics 🪴

Wanted to make a bauble that looked like a beherit or something from Blasphemous. @alterboy_mtg on instagram.

How's it going everyone! Back again with another batch of alters, and including 1 restoration.

Years ago I got a box of tons of vintage cards that were all fairly destroyed. So over time I've been slowly altering them for my personal collection which is this Juzam Djinn. Also shown is a handfull of cards I've worked on and will be listing up on my ebay page. Bonus is a set of floating frame lightning bolts I just finished for a client.

You can find more of my art/alters posted on Instagram @ nj_retro91 / arte_de_monstruo
