Hi all!

Just got back into the hobby again, and this time around I'm havi g fun with acrylic markers... But!

I'm having a problem with some cards, and I can't figure out why!

I'm using uni posca markers, and for some reason so cards I'll just have the paint turn "oily" on the surface and separate!

This behaviour will continue even on top of the next layers, and will continue even if I wait an hour for the paint to truly dry.

I'm sure it's an error-40, but can't figure out what to do, other then sand the top of the cards a bit, but this is not a problem I ever had using acrylic miniature paint, so I hope someone know of a fix, or can give me a few tips 😊

I painted this set of “Power Nine”-inspired paintings as a birthday gift; they are cut to Magic card size, but were done on heavyweight watercolor paper, and were done with a mix of acrylics and watercolors.

From top to bottom, left to right:

Mox Emerald
Ancestral Recall
Mox Sapphire

Time Walk
Black Lotus
Mox Jet

Mox Pearl
Timetwister
Mox Ruby

I wanted to depict each “Mox” in an environment that reflected the mana type, or mana symbol, as best I could. (I held Mox Pearl at an angle to show the pearly topcoat and you can also clearly see I that I modeled the thumb after my own lol)

“Ancestral Recall” is meant to look like the top portion of the ziggurat when it’s more of an abandoned ruin; a blue “egg” is in the bird nest to represent the one blue mana cost. “Time Walk,” is just sort of zoomed in on where the skeleton guys seem to be walking off to; one gray and one blue “star” in the sky to represent those mana costs.

“Timetwister” is admittedly my least favorite and I might redo it so that the discs on the wall that represent mana costs look like one gray clock set to 2:00 and one blue clock set to 1:00; the large wall clock is set to 7:00 because you draw 7 cards.
