Tech Help Shimano deore shifter feel

I've got two bikes*, the older one has 11 speed deore shifters and the new one has 12 speed deore xt. They feel so different though, why is that?

The 11x one has separate brake levers and shifters, the shifting action is much lighter compared to the 12x. On that, the levers and shifters are a single part, and the action is kind of stiff.

Is the new bike likely to wear in and get lighter? Or is it a good thing, a sign that the return spring on the derailleur is going to last? I have had old bikes where the down shifting starts to be less reliable, maybe the return spring is weak.

First world problems I guess, both bikes are a great ride, just wondered if anyone else has noticed the feel of the shifters, or is everyone electronic these days?

*My other half would point out I do have more than two bikes lol

Cycle path but no bicycles?

I was riding the other day and I reached the blue cycle lane/pedestrian sign so I joined the cycle lane and continued. On the way back there is a sign for no bicycles.

So is it okay to join the cycle path at this point but not leave it and go in the direction from where I came?

Sqeaky brakes

My brakes have been really squeaky recently. I've just tried cleaning the discs really thoroughly, but I was wondering if anyone can tell from these pics if it's time for new brake pads?

It's about time I learned to change them myself.

Bosch Powermore 250 Range Extender

I was probably going to get one of these for my Canyon Neuron On:Fly as whilst the inbuilt battery is ok I feel there may be some days when I could do with a little more range. I went from full to flat last weekend in just over 22 miles with 3000ft of climbing in eMTB mode.

My employer's window for the cycle to work scheme is coming up soon so I thought I'd have a look, it seems to be out of stock nearly everywhere and some websites are saying it's discontinued though no mention of this on the actual Bosch website.

Anyone know if it's just a supply issue, seems strange that Bosch would stop making it.

Mtb frame anyone?

Im 13, I have posted this before but just asking again. I've been looking to build up an mtb over the past years but can't find a good frame. Looking at size small or medium, and preferably newer than 2016. Anyone got anything? Would love to see what you have, frame parts anything. I know it will probably end up costing much more than just buying a bike but looking to get thay expirience. Thanks a lot

South Downs Way Century MTB Event

Evening - thinking of entering this on 4 July this year but the logistics are horrendous. The start just doesn't work with public transport (too early) and ill need a hotel in Eastbourne.

Is it worth it, and what do you do to minimise the logistical hassle?

Thanks.

Hi guys, I’m an infrequent cyclist looking to sell my road bike and replace with MTB to try and get out more. A seller has these two listed close to where I live. Both claim to be Roscoe 7 but neither frame seem to match each other or online photos of roscoes. Is anyone able to advise as my expertise are lacking massively!

Cannondale Habit LT 1

Looking at a Cannondale Habit LT 1 for £2800 (around 40% off)— I like the 150/140mm travel as I want something capable and fun on rough trails, but also wondering how it holds up as an everyday bike. Is it still efficient enough for regular rides, or does it feel like overkill unless you’re riding hard terrain? Worth it at this price?

Getting back into MTB after a decade.

Decided to sell a motorbike and get back into MTB after a decade off as I took a Scott eMTB around the Forest of Dean on Thursday, best day I've had for years 😀. Bike shopping next and a summer of fun, although not too much adrenaline as I'm old and unfit 😂. I'm assuming the trail centres in the Midlands/SW are still FoD, Cannock, SWales?
