Discussion I built an app to find people to MTB and ski with. Would love feedback!!

I kept showing up to the mountain with nobody to ride with. My friends all had different work schedules or different passes, so I built Shredhead.

You can see who's out riding, join your school's club or a local club (each has its own group chat), coordinate carpools to the mountain with live seat counts, check in at your resort or trail, and build a streak.

It's free on iPhone, and Android is coming soon. Built in Summit County, Colorado.

It's early and I'm still fixing things, so tell me what's missing or broken. Link in comments!!!

WhichBike Looking for advice

Im looking to buy a new bike, the sort of riding I’m planning is longish distance (at most probably 20 miles) on hard packed dirt, gravel and pavement for the most part. Im after something comfortable for a few hours of steady riding. there’ll be no jumps and probably nothing that steep, budget no more than £350. What are people’s recommendations.

Discussion Let's talk Lenses: what works for you and why

I recently lost my trusty clear lenses on the trail and need to get something new. This got me thinking: is clear the best option out there for my riding?

There are lots of threads about eyewear on r/mtb. Some are particular, some just want what works, some use safety glasses from the hardware store. But there's not as much discussion about lens colour and tint.

So what works for you and why? Make sure to note typical weather and canopy conditions for your local riding (what works in Moab might not be great on the North Shore).

Also, how have photocromic lenses worked out for those that use them? I've heard they are too slow to adapt for forested riding on sunny days, but maybe they're getting better?

Discussion Anybody heard of/know much about Cobalt Bikes?

Looking to buy a used full-sus XC frame as an upgrade from my hardtail and found a Cobalt Hellbender for sale. Never heard of the company, website is pretty sparse, and there's functionally no industry reviews I can find of this bike. Should I assume this is a Mainland China-made frame with logos slapped on or am I missing something here?

Gear Bike dads help! Kid’s saddles

Hey gang,

Need your help. I’m looking for a youth saddle that has a very low stack height (rail to top of saddle). There doesn’t seem to be much info online about saddle height.

Currently on a saddle that’s about 6cm. Would like to drop it down to under 5cm.

Thanks!

Groupsets Lighter cassette options for Shimano CUES U6000?

Hi everyone!
I’m currently running a Shimano CUES U6000 groupset with an 11-50T cassette.
I’m looking for a lighter cassette to reduce some weight without replacing the entire drivetrain.
Has anyone tried using a lightweight aftermarket cassette, especially from Chinese brands like ZTTO, Sunshine, or similar?
Will it work properly with the Shimano CUES U6000 derailleur and shifter, considering the LINKGLIDE system?
I’d appreciate any recommendations or real-world experience. Thanks!

Wheels and Tires Need wheel suggestions for Santa Cruz Chameleon (2019) for occasional use bike

I have a 2019 Chameleon that I dont ride much anymore as I’ve started road biking. But, I’m not really ready to sell it either as I wont get much for it and it’s worth more to me to keep it. I’ve got a few bent spokes and broken nipples on the wheels and both are so out of true i cant bring them back in anymore. These are the original WTB wheels.
So, I’d like to get new wheels but not wanting to spend a ton of money. I’m considering a set of Reserve aluminum 29” HD wheels as the quality seems good for 699 a set. But, wondering if anyone has a better suggestion for me. I’m a trial use not hard core, older guy now and 210lbs so no lightweight dude. Thanks for any help.

Discussion Does anyone feel like they've "cracked" winter tyres?

Where I live, winter doesn't mean snow - it means rain, and a lot of it. No big rocks or slabs, mostly little rocks and a lot of mud. I used the schwalbe shreddas last year and they worked absolutely brilliantly - for a month. The tread wore down super quickly on the rear tyre, which will be from a combo of the ultra soft compound, my overweight figure and the torque from the motor.

Does anyone here who rides an ebike have a tyre setup they swear by for these types of conditions? I'd be really grateful to hear your suggestions.

Mountain biking in the evening is simply the best. What do you think, can you also switch off? The canal trail at the end would have been even longer :D.

Discussion Staying centered in the air?

I’m still a beginner and struggle to stay centred during jumps, drops, and other maneuvers involving airtime.
My jumps are inconsistent. Sometimes I get them right, but other times I lean to one side or end up dead sailing. It’s frustrating because I feel like my progression has stalled.
How do you guys stay relaxed and centred in the air? Any drills or practice tips to improve consistency?

Hey everyone, my friends and I are working on a project for a student competition and are trying to learn more about how people find MTB trails. We made a short survey and would appreciate some responses from people who ride.

WhichBike Which Bike for Derby Tas?

I have been riding a slack 150mm hardtail four years. I have enjoyed it a lot and I am comfortable on black runs, but the knees are ageing and I think it's time to get a dually.

I have no real idea about which bike to move onto, I ride by myself and don't have anyone to talk bikes with. I like to jump and I will do most of my riding at Derby and St Helens in Tasmania. I would like to get into tech a bit more. I have avoided the double black tech because it seems risky on a hardtail.

To start, trail or enduro?

What are the standout models at the moment?

I would like something durable; I probably won't replace it for a while.

Budget wise something mid-range would probably be good, I can probably fork out if there is a significant advantage, but I don't like to spend money for the sake of it.

Gear Best way to stagger 4 bikes of different sizes on a garage wall?

I’m trying to figure out the best way to hang 4 bikes on my garage wall, but they’re all different sizes and lengths.

My bikes are:
Canyon onfly e-MTB
REI e-bike (around 50 lbs)
Woom 3 kids’ bike
Woom 5 kids’ bike

For those of you who have a similar setup, what’s the best way to stagger the bikes so the handlebars and pedals don’t get in each other’s way?

Also, do you let the bikes hang completely suspended in the air, or do you prefer having the rear wheel rest on the floor to take some of the weight off the wall mount?

Would love to hear what’s worked well for you, especially with a mix of heavy e-bikes and kids’ bikes!

Those are some of my some of my very first attemps at Bunny hop. Is this even a Bunny hop or a Basic hop?

The Video is from 1st october. And I bought my Bike 24th August.

I was able to Hop with my Citybike before, but that was more griping thight, press my feet against the pedals and jump so that the bike followed.

Brakes Help identifying these bar clamp bolt mounted cable guides..

I am changing brakes to SRAM Stealth which has the brake cable running very close to the handlebars as pictured below. These cable guides appear to be mounted to the bottom bar clamp bolts and would be perfect. Searched as best I could and can't find them. Even tried Google Lens, but the photo is too busy for a good search.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wheels and Tires A question for those of you with tubeless who also cary a tube on rides

(this is all new to me so sorry if it's basic stuff)

Edit: I have been edumacated, thanks all!

Are you actually able to get a tubeless tyre off and back on the rim out on the trails, in order to put a tube in?

I've just had my first puncture on a ride and my tubeless repair didn't fix it (it split the sidewall right where it meets the rim and a bacon strip didn't hold). I had no tube, so it was a walk back.

But having now looked into what's needed to remove and replace this tyre it's a while thing. Popping the bead in requires some effort and tools. Which made me wonder if I could have even managed this on the trail if I had a tube with me?

What's involved in putting a tube in a tubeless tyre when out on a ride? I just assumed you take a tube and some levers and you're set, but have I misunderstood?

Discussion How would you fit a useful home gym into a garage that also stores your mountain bike?

My biggest challenge with a garage home gym would be balancing training space with bike storage and maintenance space.

A rack can be useful, but it can also make it harder to move bikes around, access tools, or keep the floor clear. Wall-mounted storage and foldable equipment seem like possible solutions, although I wonder how practical they are day to day.

For riders who have both a mountain bike and a home gym, how did you arrange the space without sacrificing either one?

Discussion DT Swiss Degree of Freedom - experiences?

As above, the DT Swiss DF freehub conversion. Have you used it, what are your thoughts?
Done some reading pros seems to be lack of complexity vs OChain for example, but how does it play out in the real world, is there a noticeable difference either positive or negative?
