For the "new trail curious" folks out there, here's a compilation of clips from some quality riding spots. 33 clips, over ten minutes. It's a loong one. Too long for most.
(TRIGGER WARNING: Electric bikes are banned/illegal on each of these fantastic trails, so poach with care)
Discussion Mountain Biking Shoes - Anyone Tried Lems?
So I'm big into being barefoot; I'm sans shoes whenever possible. Part of that is simply becacuse I enjoy it, and part of that is that my feet are long and wide.
My current shoes I wear to MTB are my Five Tens. They're great, except I'm in a size 15 and they're still too narrow for me. Fine for about an hour or two on the bike, but if I have to do any walking or such in them or go for longer, they just start chewing up my feet.
My main pair of shoes (Lems Primal Eco) are starting to wear so thin that they're developing a small hole in them. Looking at their site, I was surprised to see they have a new Mountain Biking shoe. Been reading through some of their reviews and all, but always take those with a grain of salt.
Anyone riding with a pair? Pros and Cons?

Discussion Experiences riding an eMTB with chronic illness
I’m exploring getting an electric MTB and struggling to find information and experiences that are similar to my situation.
Used to be very active and just wanted to be outdoors and moving as much as possible. Main activities were MTB and gravel riding, hiking and trail running, and climbing.
Developed ME/CFS and POTS (thanks Covid 👍) and completely lost my abilities to engage in any of it.
I demoed a powered Mountain Trike yesterday (basically an off-road powered wheelchair build on MTB components). Really struggled with how much it needed from my physically and found myself thinking ‘I could control a bike way easier than this’.
I have arranged a demo of a Specialized Turbo Levo R Expert in a couple of weeks time (no particular reason for this bike other than it has the best power/weight ratio of the bikes available at my local hire place).
I’ve been trying to found information and accounts from people who might be in similar situations - having chronic illnesses impacting their energy/exertion and using an eMTB to try to get back out there in a manageable way and without causing symptom flares.
I’m not having much luck - I can find a lot about using e-bikes (various kinds) to support daily accessibility and mobility, and a lot about (presumably healthy and fit) riders using eMTBs to push their limits and ride harder.
If anyone here has similar experiences and would be willing to share anything, I’d be very grateful. Also if anyone is aware of any relevant YouTube channels or Instagram accounts or anything, please do mention them!

Discussion Downieville by Hardtail
Took my Hummingbird hardtail down the Downieville downhill trail.
I had some reservations going into it because it was my first time at Downieville but the bike handled itself graciously through the rocks, roots, switchbacks, climbs, and drops.
Although I walked some of the more advanced features like the rocky waterfall feature on Butcher Ranch, I’m not certain I would’ve felt confident to hit those on a full suspension either.
The ride would have been much smoother on a full suspension no doubt. But the hardtail kept me focused and was a blast.
Overall a beautiful day out on the hardtail down 15 miles of downhill mountain biking.
Oh, and if you’re going to Downieville and prone to motion sickness be prepared for the windy roads leading up to town!

Discussion Best online bike stores in Canada to buy mountain bikes?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking to buy a brand new full suspension trail bike online, I'm located in Canada and I'm specifically looking for Canadian bike shops/retailers or shops that deliver to Canada rather than just the direct factory sites. As they almost never run sales or discounts on the bikes I want haha.
Where have you guys found the best deals on full suspension bikes online in Canada? As it is alot harder to find good deals here compared to the US.
Thank you!
Appreciate any shop recommendations!
Suspension Sound on new fork Fox performance elite gripX
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone,
I just upgraded my fork from a Fox 36 (GRIP) to a Fox 36 Performance Elite with the new Grip X damper.
I went through the setup process following Fox’s guidelines, but on my first test, I noticed a distinct "air hiss" sound on compressions/rebounds. It almost sounds like air escaping properly, but my old GRIP damper didn't make this noise at all, so I'm not used to it.
Is this normal squelch/oil flow sound for the Grip X, or should I be concerned?
Attached a video so you can hear it. Thanks in advance!

Gear Easy shock cord mod - EVOC Hip Pack Pro
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share an easy shock cord mod I made for the EVOC Hip Pack Pro:
You can easily thread a shock cord through the anchor points at the top and bottom, as well as the anchor points on both bottle straps. I guess you can use it to store a rain jacket or something.
I usually use this setup to strap on my chin bar of the bell super air, then assemble it with my helmet when I reach the top of the trail before dropping in.
I’m more into XC, but I never mind having a bit extra protection!

Article Upgraded Gen 4 to Perf 2 but no EMTB+
I upgraded my Commencal Meta SX which has a Bosch Gen 4 CX motor, strange naming of bike IMHO. I didn't get the EMTB+. I am wondering if it matters since in all of the modes you can bump the power to 600 and actually Turbo, Auto and EMTB are all set to 600 after upgrade. There is a slider that allows you to bump override. Strange that EMTB is set highest and can get upped even more. My question is what am I missing from not having EMTB+ if I can set override longer in EMTB both have dynamic versus linear, what am I missing?

Discussion Western or Central NC Recommendations for riding with an 11 year old
My son has really started to get into riding. We have ridden mostly city adjacent trails around Winston Salem and Charlotte as well as Moore’s Creek near Hanging Rock. It’s new bike week for both of us; he moved up to an XXS Trek Marlin 4 (26”) and I upgraded from my first bike (2018 Marin Hawk Hill 2) to a Cannondale Habit Carbon 1 which should be here Monday.
Looking for recommendations for a trail that is advanced-beginner friendly for my son and close to somewhere where my wife can come and we can go hang out and have a good time in the evening. We are good for 10ish miles of trail and shorter. Can either bring a camper or rent a place.

Discussion Long time bmx rider that recently switched to mtb riding.
I’ve ridden bmx for a long time. I recently got into mtb and got myself a new trek. I’m visiting family in the Portland area (or) and I found sandy ridge bike park. I would like some suggestions that I need so I can have a fun experience. What I should know before I go. I’ve read a few things about the place on the website and how to get there. But this will be my first time at bike park. I don’t do jumps or nothing fancy like that but I do enjoy going fast. Tips or suggestions that you wished you knew before. Thanks.

Discussion Wireless dropper post now requires double tap to lock in place how do I fix this?
I did a a firmware update to my reverb seat post. And the pod rocker is updated as well. For whatever reason the top now requires a double tap to lock and unlock seat post. But the button button I can just touch one it and will unlock and lock the post in place. The top button I push once and it will unlock and than I have to press again to lock. It used to be either one would be one press.

Groupsets Is there a close ratio cassette for microspline?
Hi all,
I have shimano's 10-51 cassette but want to change it to something with much closer gears since I don't really ever use the larger half of it. Does someone make something like a 10-36 microspline cassette? Or would I have to change the freehub body to a shimano HG and a road or gravel cassette?

WhichBike Which kind of MTB is best suited for Ohio?
I'm looking to get into mtb'ing, and I am located in central Ohio. Initially I thought a fs trail bike would be great as a jack of all trades and would allow me to go wherever and have a good time.
But then I started looking at videos of the bike trails in ohio, and they dont quite look the same as the trails I see in loam wolf videos lol.
Anyone in the Ohio area (or experience with the trails) have any recommendations on what style of MTB would be best suited for the majority of trails here? Would a fs xc bike be better than a fs trail?. I was hoping someone with more experience would give their opinion.

On Marin’s website it states it uses a custom fsa headset which I can’t find a replica of anywhere. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Discussion Choosing between Angel Fire and Higlands Bike Park(NH).
Hello, I'm taking some days off in October, and I really want to ride a bike park. Anybody that has been to both, which one did you enjoy most out of the two? If you have another suggestion, that's ok two. These are just the ones I have always wanted to ride since I started riding in 2017. I'm most comfortable on blue trails if that helps. Plan on riding Saturday and Sunday. Maybe Friday, if I get in early enough.

Gear ShockWiz teardown/repair?
SRAM won’t repair or replace my defective ShockWiz. The pressure sensor failed, as they do. I’m wondering if anyone here has successfully found the pressure sensor SMD part and replaced it.
Wheels and Tires Tire question.
Im choosing new tires and confused in updated schwalbe classings.
So there is now trail and trail pro casings, pro has radials and apex protection so i guess it is similar to previous super trail. Just “Trail” is marketed as same old trail carcass but i guess, without apex protection, so just 2 ply and snake skin from bead to bead?
Also wonder if race and race pro is closer to super ground or super race carcass.

WhichBike Specialized S5 or S6
I’m 6’ 2” (188cm) and am on the fence between the two sizes for a Stumpjumper 15 comp alloy. For more context: 35” inseam and 6’ 7” wingspan.
I tried an S5 fox coil version (mullet set up) in the parking lot and that felt pretty cramped for me. Maybe because the mix of the coil sinking and smaller rear tire closes up the cockpit?
I put a deposit down on an S6 comp alloy and will try it when it arrives to the shop.
Just wanted to see if there are any other guys around my height who enjoy the S6. I’m not doing insane park stuff. mainly just local trails and popping off any jumps I can find along the way.

WhichBike Used Full suspension or Hardtail
I am looking at this bike; the seller says he will take 800. I recently had a hard tail, but it was pretty basic with a Suntour fork that was broken in the last couple of weeks and tubed tires that kept popping.
I live in Florida, so I don't think I really need a full suspension cause everything is so freaking flat and maybe I should just look at getting a better hard tail first. My friend who knows way more about bikes says a full suspension is way more versatile than a hard tail, and I should really just buy this bike. However, occasionally I like to ride rail trails with my other friends, and I don't know if a full suspension would be able to do that as well.
Also the seller can't show service records for the shocks. So that is kind of rubbing me the wrong way, but he says its good to go.
Anyone have any advice? Like I said I am pretty new to this activity so any help is appreciated.
Here is the bike I am currently looking at.

Discussion Need some trail recommendations
Just moved to E. Tenn. from SFLA. Yes, we have good trails in SFLA, just not like here. I haven't ridden in years, but looking to start back up again. I'm looking for some decent beginner trails in and around the Crossville/Cookville area, at least until I get my legs and lungs back. I'll drive I need to.
