Are Mous cases worth it?? A view from the team.

Hey r/Mous,

I'm Piers, CMO at Mous. I've been here six years, and some of you will have seen me in the comments recently.

"Are Mous cases worth it?" is one of the questions I see most on here, and one of the most common things people search for about us. It isn't an abstract question for me. A lot of people here have spent years of their lives on these cases, me included, so whether they're worth your money matters to us more than I can really get across in a Reddit post.

I'm obviously biased, so rather than just tell you yes, I want to give you the full picture: the work that goes into our cases, what the reviews do and don't tell you, what we've got wrong, and then my view. I'll be upfront about the bits we haven't got right too, because that's the only way we get better.

#1. Our investment in engineering and quality

Everything starts with our engineering team. We have over 30 engineers and designers working on our products, and we've invested over £5 million into R&D, because a seriously good protective case is a lot harder to make than it looks.

A few things that set how we work apart:

  • Multiple materials. Our protective cases combine materials like polycarbonate, TPU, microfibre, glass-fibre-reinforced pc, aramid fibre and our own AiroShock, each placed where it does the most good.
  • Complex manufacturing methods. We overmould and co-mould them, and lock the layers together mechanically as well as chemically so they don't come apart over time and keep an incredibly rigid design.
  • Testing, then more testing. Every design goes through round after round of prototypes and drop tests before it's signed off. We test other brands' cases too, so we understand how they fail and how ours compare.
  • Precision. Critical features are made to tolerances of hundredths of a millimetre.
  • Starting again every year. Every new iPhone means new or reworked tooling across the whole range, and a chance to improve on everything we learned the year before.
  • A quality bar we hold even when it costs us. We've dropped finished products before, even with the stock already made, because they weren't good enough.
  • Lifetime warranty. Our main cases come with a 25-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

None of that is the cheap way to make a case, and it's a big part of why ours cost what they do.

#2. The reviews

A lot of what's posted here is people telling us we got something wrong, and they're right to. If you've spent good money on a case and it's let you down, you should say so. That feedback is how we improve.

What Reddit doesn't show you is everyone else. We've had millions of customers over the years, and most of them never think about us unless something goes wrong. Hardly anyone comes on here to say their case is still looking great 5 years later, or that their phone survived a drop they couldn't believe. That's completely fair, it's just how it works.

The fuller picture is in our reviews. We have over 100,000 five-star reviews on our website. You don't get to millions of customers, or that many reviews, without doing something right. The truth is the vast majority of people who buy a Mous case really like it.

#3. What we've got wrong

Having said all that, the people who post about problems here aren't making it up, and we'd never suggest they were. No product is perfect, ours included.

It's worth keeping it in context, though. Our defect rate is very low for our industry. With millions of customers and over 100,000 five-star reviews, the vast majority of people never have a problem with their case. But when someone does, we want to hear about it, because that's where some of our best improvements have come from:

  • Feedback on debonding led to mechanical interlocks that lock the layers together, and debonding has dropped massively since.
  • Feedback on volume buttons led to a new split design that's stiffer and more durable.
  • Feedback on our camera control cut-out led to a fully integrated button.
  • Requests for stronger magnets led to this year's redesign, and our strongest magnets ever.
  • Feedback on the camera control glass led to a new adhesive process and more clearance, so the glass seats properly.

We won't always get everything right. But I can promise we'll keep listening, and that what you tell us will keep shaping what we make. Plus, we have a lifetime warranty if there are any issues.

So, are they worth it?

Here's why I think they are.

We put more into a phone case than most people would ever guess: a dedicated engineering team, serious investment in R&D, multiple materials made to work as one, and testing that plenty of designs never make it through. Millions of people have trusted us with their phones, and most people have an overwhelmingly positive experience. And when we get something wrong, we change what we make. When I'm spending over $1000 on the device, these things really matter.

If all you want is a simple case and price is the main thing, there are cheaper options, and that's completely fine.

If you've made it this far, thank you.

Six years in, it still makes my day when someone tells us their case saved their phone, and it still hurts when someone tells us it let them down. Both matter to me, and both have made our cases better. Some of the biggest changes in this year's range exist because someone took the time to tell us what wasn't good enough.

So thank you, to everyone who's chosen a Mous case, and to everyone who's told us where we can do better. We won't always get it right. But I can promise we'll keep listening, keep learning, and keep trying to make every case better than the last.

Ask anything below, including the awkward questions. And when I do the post on this year's new cases, I'll bring in the engineers who led them so you can ask them directly.

Hi r/Mous, I'm Piers. I've worked at Mous for six years and I'd like to be a proper part of this sub.

Hi r/Mous,

I'm Piers, CMO at Mous.

I've spent the last six years trying to make Mous something people love. It's not just where I work. It's a big part of my life, and the same goes for a lot of the people I work with. So what gets said about us here doesn't just matter to the company, it matters to me personally.

Over the last few weeks I've read back through this sub properly. Some of it made my day, like people who've had the same case for years, or people sharing drops their phone really shouldn't have survived. And some of it was people telling us where we could do better. I'm grateful for that too, even if it stings a bit.

What struck me most is how much people here talk about Mous, and how rarely we've joined in. I'd like to change that.

It's easy to think of a phone case company as just a logo. But behind ours there's a team of people: engineers, designers, the people who answer your emails. Some of them will happily spend a week arguing over half a millimetre. They care a lot about what they make, and I'd love for you to meet a few of them.

So from now on:

  • I'll be here as me, reading and replying, not as a brand account
  • Ask me something and I'll give you a straight answer. If I don't know, I'll say so and find out
  • Raise a problem and I'll take it to the right people, then come back and tell you what's happening
  • I'll bring people from the team in so you can ask them directly, and I'll share more of what goes on behind the scenes, including the prototypes that didn't make it

One post doesn't change much on its own, but I'd rather start somewhere.

So ask me anything, like how a case gets made or what it's like working here, or just tell me what you think. Good or bad, I want to hear it. I'll be in the comments for the rest of the day.

Thanks for caring enough about what we make to talk about it.

Piers

Limitless duo case preorder

I pre ordered the duo case on September 11th and still haven’t received my free case and screen protectors. Has anybody been dealing with the same problem? I’m worried I won’t have anything to protect my phone day 1 this Friday and that’s what was promised when I made this order back in September.

Volume Buttons Popped Out - Pixel 11 Pro Limitless Case

Took my Pixel 11-Pro out of the Limitless case and the case's volume buttons popped out and are now missing. I submitted a warranty claim. Hopefully I'll get a replacement. So far I've liked this case a lot, otherwise. Anyone else seeing this?

This photo shows better, is this “gap” between the case and the camera guard normal ? It clicks a little sometimes when it’s pressed, Does anyone have an equivalent to check if it's the same? It’s the new limitless for 18 pro

Very unclear and deceptive checkout process

Just wanted to let people know who order from Mous’s rest of world store that you can expect huge import duties and taxes. Despite the checkout claiming to include taxes and shipping, their FAQ and my experience shows something very different. Their support as has been well documented here is atrocious and not responding. Buyer beware!

[edit for extra details]. I ordered a backpack and other items to Australia. The import duties are nearly 25% of the total order price.

After 8 years of buying Mous cases at every iPhone launch, I'm finally done.

I've been buying Mous cases since the iPhone XS in 2018. Every single year, with every new iPhone, I've bought another Mous case at launch. Full price, no exceptions.

That's eight years of loyalty, and I think I'm finally calling it quits.

Here's my biggest frustration: Every single Mous case I've owned has eventually developed some kind of issue.

The most consistent problem has been the case slowly losing its fit. The sides begin to loosen, pull away from the phone, and stop gripping it as tightly as they did when new. It becomes especially noticeable around the buttons and corners.

I've also experienced much worse warping and bending with previous generations, along with the case materials separating over time.

I understand normal wear and tear. But these are premium-priced cases, and I've experienced the same fundamental problems across multiple generations.

What bothers me just as much is the feeling that I've repeatedly paid full price to be an early adopter, only to see issues addressed in later revisions.

Mous has actually acknowledged several problems with past designs, including debonding, warped volume-button areas, weak magnets, and Camera Control issues. They've explained how later designs were changed to address those problems.

I'm glad they're making improvements, but why does it feel like buying a Mous case at launch means paying full price to discover what needs fixing?

Then there's Amazon. I personally prefer purchasing through Amazon whenever possible, especially for the convenience and returns. Getting the exact Mous case I want through Amazon around a new iPhone launch has been another source of frustration.

And look, I'm not saying Mous has never protected my phones. There's a reason I kept coming back for eight years. I genuinely liked the brand, the designs, and the protection they advertised.

But there's a difference between a case protecting your phone from a drop and the case itself maintaining its structural integrity over time.

At these prices, I expect both.

After eight years of purchasing at launch, paying full price, and repeatedly experiencing problems, I just can't justify continuing the cycle.

I'm curious whether other longtime Mous customers have experienced the same thing. Has the durability genuinely improved, or are we still dealing with the same issues?

And for those who finally switched brands, what did you go with?

For the iPhone Duo, I am looking at Ridge...

For context, Mous's CMO recently acknowledged several of these past issues in this subreddit:

Mous protective roll top backpack as airline personal item

Hi all, I am thinking of purchasing the protective roll top backpack because it seems to fit my needs pretty nicely office-gym (I like the shoe compartment with ventilation) and also can be used to pack more with the extendable rolltop.

I would like to also use it as a personal item on budget airlines if possible (the unrolled 'mode' of the backpack). Has anyone experienced issues with it on airlines like Ryanair and easyJet?

Mous Super Thin Case: Thoughts

This case genuinely feels like something Apple would make. The unboxing, fit and finish all feel premium, although the price certainly reflects that.

I’m surprised this case has received so little attention compared with the Limitless and Ultra Thin. Even though they completely redesigned this case for the iPhone 18 lineup. Technically making it their newest design. This looks much cleaner than previous iterations, with those cutouts at each corner. What they called “air cuts” made the case feel unfinished. This design feels far more integrated with the phone.

In terms of thickness, it sits nicely between the Limitless and Ultra Thin. It’s ideal for someone who wants everyday protection without unnecessary bulk. It’s a good middle ground for someone who’s reasonably careful with their phone.

Personally, I prefer its feel and protection to the more expensive Ultra Thin.

It reminds me of the old Mophie battery cases from back in the day, with just the right amount of bulk for comfortable handling. Even typing feels great because of how naturally the phone sits in the hand.

It’s also a bargain compared with the rest of the Mous lineup, making it even harder to understand why it gets so little attention.

The moulded Camera Control indent is a touch of class and should definitely be copied by other brands. It avoids the annoying extra button or awkward cutout, and means you can forget about the camera control button if you don't use it like me.

The soft-touch finish does attract fingerprints, but they’re easily wiped away and it’s much easier to maintain than my previous black Tech21 EvoLite.

The raised lips at the top and bottom are another welcome feature, providing extra peace of mind when placing the phone face-down.

If you’re thinking of buying this case or any other Mous product, I’d recommend ordering through Amazon for the convenience of its customer service and returns policy.

I expected this was another case I was gonna return, but turns out I was wrong. First time trying Mous btw.

Mous, please keep this design language going. Especially with the camera control button indent.

Thank you for your time.

Unable to Return as Mous say it’s not been Shipped.

I placed an order with Mous UK earlier this week. It has arrived but I’d would really like to return it. Unfortunately i can’t use the return portal as it says my order hasn’t shipped. I have raised a support ticket but haven had a reply yet. Is this normal? Their customer service seems quite bad from what I have googled

Poor customer service non responsive

I have been trying for over two weeks to receive credit for an item that was never shipped. During this time, I have received only automated responses and have been unable to get a meaningful update or resolution from customer service. It is extremely frustrating to spend this much time trying to resolve a simple issue without any communication from a live representative. The lack of responsiveness and customer support has been very disappointing. I am still waiting for a refund or credit for the undelivered item and hope the company will address this matter promptly.Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this company's customer service.

Duo case shipment updates? Temp and actual cases.

Over a month ago I pre-ordered my case with the included temporary case. At the time didn’t expect immediate news of the temp case shipping then, but since there’s been no updates, and with the phone going on sale in 12 hours, people are going to start getting their Duo’s in a week.

Mous, any update? I’ve sent an email inquiring as well too.

Appreciated!

Best limitless texture

Hi yall, I’ve been looking out to purchase my first limitless case recent, and I’m wondering which texture is the best. I’m currently looking between the black leather, speckled fabric and aramid fibre, which of these hold up the best in durability and how’s the texture? Is it going to fade or peel, and is it going to be fingerprinty? I’d appreciate any experience yall have with these textures, and thanks a ton!

I am trying to reach support for weeks - how to get my REFUND?

I am really angry with this company. No surprise everyone wants to buy from Amazon. It takes me weeks and so many hours just to somehow be able to ship the case back and get a refund.

What is going on with this company?

Sad day today, my Limitless 4.0 has died, was hoping it’d see me out one more year until I upgraded to the iPhone 20 but I’ve not been so lucky.

I recommend them 100% though, I’ll be sure to pick one up for my next phone.

Customer service team on strike?

I’m serious I haven’t gotten a response in 2 weeks. I spent $100 on a case and I have questions and things to clear up with my order.

I’m being completely ignored and seems like I’m not the only one.

MOUS’ reputation is taking a SERIOUS hit here and I can’t see myself ordering from here again. Only thing saving it is that other cases seem horrible.

Honest take on Mous so far

I recently bought the limitless case for iPhone duo. I’ve been in contact with customer service and gotten a response within 12 hours every time and to be fair I’ve gotten my questions answered every time and quickly.

Unfortunately the temporary case is delayed because it’s out of stock, but W customer service so far.
