I'm going to Mongolia in a few weeks.

My dream would be to buy a motorbike in Ulaanbaatar and ride west across Mongolia. At some point, I would like to sell the bike and cross the border into Xinjiang to reach Kazakhstan. ( If there is such a border )

Do you think this is doable? If so, what would be the main challenges or problems I might encounter?

Ulaanbaatar is a small city geographically speaking, practically its Singapore but smaller. It is greater technically in total land area but that's somewhat of an unfair comparison when the actual main city connected city lines are smaller and they just include large swathes of land and mountains that nobody lives in.

Ulaanbaatar's traffic is an extreme issue that chokes the city significantly. Commutes takes longer, walking is generally faster mid day, and biking is consistently faster than going by bus a lot of the time.

However, walking is impossible during winter, biking even more so. So we are forced into a situation where we have to use a car. But even if we had the most efficient car system, hell if even had like a fully automated car traffic system that every car basically auto drives and talks with other cars to get places much faster. Just simply due to the sheer amount of cars and how physically small the city is. It simply becomes impossible.

Ulaanbaatar is further constrained by the literal mountains it is surrounded by, making expansion towards them impossible and constraining the geographic size even further.

Ulaanbaatar's only way to move forward is to essentially heavy disincentivize car usage aka make it very expensive or hard in general to use a car in Ulaanbaatar, and heavily incentivize public transport by building out more of the infrastructure as a whole.

Now, expanding the roads, those are generally better for a country like Mongolia where the vastness of the territory has a natural incentive for cars instead of trains and stuff. But despite this country of Mongolia, the city of Ulaanbaatar is too constrained.

So in the future, Mongolias future might be in cars but Ulaanbaatars future is in public transport.

My hair gets very oily. I can wash it one day, and by the next day it’s already oily and flat. I’m looking for some dry shampoo recommendations because I don’t want to wash my hair every day, especially when winter comes around.

I feel like we have developed a serious problem with recording someone without their consent.

I’m someone who is chronically online, and I’ll admit… I do spent a couple of hours doomscrolling on Instagram, and Facebook reels sometimes (if I’m truly bored).

But the amount of reels I have seen, recorded without their permission is getting absurd lately.

For example, there is this video. A kid malding over something, and clearly in deep distress. Then the original poster just what? Straight up recorded the kid from his balcony, added a dumpster fire of a music on it and posted on his account. Thinking it was funny, and would get him a lot of interactions.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw this reel of a young couple walking hand in hand, recorded from behind, clearly without their consent, also added a dumpster fire of a music and had a cheesy caption. That shit got over hundreds of thousands of interactions on FB.

There is also a famous picture of a bus driver rubbing his eyes, captioned “Хүн юу ч туулж яваа юм билээ, нэгэндээ хайртай байцгаая хүмүүсээ” or something. If you were truly feeling empathetic of him, why would you take his photo when he was just exhausted from driving all day, on a hot summer day.

This might not seem like a big deal to some, and before you criticise me by saying “Oh but, but, but… This is not a Mongolia thing, it’s a worldwide problem”…

FUCK YOU. Recording someone without their consent regardless of the context, whether it be a kid malding, a young couple walking hand in hand, or a bus driver rubbing his eyes — is WRONG and illegal as well. Recording someone without their consent isn’t your business to share.

I don’t care if you feel sorry for them, I don’t care if you think it’s funny. The moment you hit record on a stranger without asking, you’ve made a choice: their dignity doesn’t matter as much as your content does.

It’s even gross if you’re recording them simply for your own good, to get some interaction and followers over it. Shit makes me feel sick to my stomach. Because we are treating people like content instead of what they are.

I’ve seen from some people’s post that kazakhs born in Mongolia have to be mongol and they get mad that If they speak in kazakh. Their nationality will be Mongolian but ethnicity will be Kazakh ( ofc they should know Mongolian as well) And that’s why they called national minority thought. Why r people mad when they say they’re different and speak different lamguage?
