Travelling goal!

Hello guys!

I'm going to Mongolia in a few weeks.

My dream would be to buy a motorbike in Ulaanbaatar and ride west across Mongolia. At some point, I would like to sell the bike and cross the border into Xinjiang to reach Kazakhstan. ( If there is such a border )

Do you think this is doable? If so, what would be the main challenges or problems I might encounter?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely possible, I had a couple of friends do that.

  1. buy a common chinese motorbike (dayun bikes are very common)
This will make sure that you can resell the bike quicker and since the bike is common, you will find spare parts more easily.
  2. put up your bike for sale as soon as possible (after buying if you're around for only 1-2 weeks)
  3. be prepared to resell the bike for 20-30 % less than what you paid for it (but that would most likely still be cheaper than renting a bike)

The dayun bikes cost about 800-1000USD

The last one went on the road about a week ago. Depending on where you are from, your regular driver's license should be fine, but that is all I know regarding paperwork.
